Cle de Peau Satin Eye Color Review, Photos, Swatches (#111, #114)

Cle de Peau #111 Eyeshadow

Cle de Peau Satin Eye Color ($45.00 for 0.07 oz.) in 111 (soft chocolate brown) and 114 (soft pink) are part of Cle de Peau’s Captivante Collection. It also features three other new shades — 112 (light blue), 113 (dark brown), and 115 (pale purple).

I originally reviewed Cle de Peau’s Satin Eye Color a few weeks ago.  These new-for-spring shades are exactly the same in terms of feel, quality, and texture.  They’re buttery, silky smooth, and so, so soft.  They’re not chalky or powdery, but they almost feel like a buttery cream when you apply them.  One thing I like about these is you can wear them with or without a base, because the formula is designed to adhere to the lid without a base.

  • 111 is a softened medium chocolate brown that comes off as mostly neutral in its undertones, so it’s a great, universal brown.
  • 114 is a pretty petal pink with a subtle sheen and shimmer.  Like 111, it isn’t too warm or cool–a pink that can be worn by many.

I wore both shades in this look I posted last week.  I liked how they looked soft and touchable, but they still delivered plenty of color.  If you love the brightness of Make Up For Ever and MAC eyeshadows, Cle de Peau is not a stand-in by any means.  If you love pigmented, but still soft and wearable, colors, like Chanel and Dior, Cle de Peau may be more your style.

These eyeshadows are undeniably expensive, and Cle de Peau is not a brand for everyone.  Keep in mind that it is a luxury brand, and part of luxury is that not everyone can afford it, so the price completely reflects that.  They are excellent eyeshadows, but they’re certainly more of a splurge item for many of us, including myself.

MAC shadows are like $11 a pop. I don’t get how these could possibly be worth it unless you’re so into status symbols that you’ve lost any kind of common sense.

People want different things, and it doesn’t have to mean that they don’t have common sense. It’s OK for them to like what they like — even if you don’t think it’s worth it — it’s their money and their life. To each their own 🙂

For how expensive this brand is, I’m sure the shadows deliver beautifully. I wish I had the money for these!

And you’re awesome, Christine – I can’t go a day without checking out your site! 🙂 Keep up the good work.

@Rachel
I totally agree with you! To get me to spend that much money on a single shadow it’d have to stay for days and be super smooth and super pigmented to the point of perfection…and even then I’d probably not spend that much on a single eyeshadow. Thank God for MAC and NYX.

@Christine
I like how you respond so respectfully and professionally. You’re awesome Christine!

114 looks so nice, but that’s pretty much it.
I don’t how the packaging feels in hand, but it looks kinda cheap on the inside. On the outside it is really nice, but don’t like the inner part of it. 😀

i think if i was one of those people who just have a few shadows that they stick by until they’re finished i might consider these — the texture and colours look really pretty, especially in the looks christine has posted in the past.

Ladies, if you think that’s expensive – don’t move to NZ.
Or Australia. Or Eastern Europe. Or South America… We don’t even get Cle de Peau here… or Urban Decay. Or even Milani. Or Philosophy. Or even the whole Maybelline or L’Oreal ranges. The list goes on!
We don’t even have a Sephora!
MAC is available in maybe two or three stores in the ENTIRE country and we pay $40 for a MAC lipstick, $36 for a pearlglide liner or eyeshadow and $52 for a Mineralize blush…

I’d be happy enough to just have the choice…

These eyeshadowa do look pretty by the way. I love the vaguely octangonal shape – they look very organic and classic.

Testify, sister!

Gosh, I wish it was only $46 over here for a high end eyeshadow. Try $35 for a single MAC eyeshadow pan…how I would love a sephora over here. there is just NOTHING in aus.

OMG I love them both! They’re so gorgeous, but so expensive! =/. I was originally going to say I love 114, but no way, I love them both equally! LOL.

Coco Avatar

Sooo pretty! But a bit out of my budget so I think I’ll give these a miss for the moment.
Thanks for the review Christine :D!

Where on earth did you find these Serge Lutens products? I have searched all the websites and cannot find an eyeshadow like that in that type of case.
Thx
