Softer Makeup: Going Coral -- Once More, With Feeling!
Softer Makeup: Going Coral — Once More, With Feeling!
Just a quickie look here… something neutral so I could do some lip swatches! Ironically, this combination of eyeshadows recreates the look I did last week in a way–it’s subtler, softer, but the strength of Coral Crepe really seems to keep everything in the same family.
Note: I’m also testing out Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer, but the shade is one too dark for me (it’s Almond, for reference, which I think is suitable for NC30/NC35)–I mention this because you can tell I’m just a little “bronzed” in the photos. I’ll be trying Sand, which should be a better fit, soon, but for now, I’m just wearing it for feel/texture, even if the shade doesn’t match!
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), MAC Coral Crepe Paint Pot (coral), Cle de Peau #1 Eyeshadow (champagne white), Cle de Peau #114 Eyeshadow (pink), Cle de Peau #111 Eyeshadow (dark brown), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (highlighter), Guerlain Mirage Khol (brown), MAC NC15/NW20 Chromagraphic Pencil (nude), MAC Opulash Mascara (black)
- Face: Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer (Almond)
- Cheeks: YSL Golden Sand Terre Saharienne (bronze), NARS Enchanted Cream Blush (sheer peach)
- Lips: MAC Kraft Lipstick (peached brown), MAC Fold and Tuck Lipglass (coral)
- Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: N/A
For eyes, start by applying Coral Crepe paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the lid area with the 249, andn then apply Soft Ochre paint pot from crease to brow. Using the 239, apply #1 eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply #114 eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with #111 eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend #111 eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Mirage khol on the lower water line and NC15/NW20 pencil lightly patted below the lower lash line and smudged with the 219 brush. Finish by sweeping lashes with Opulash mascara.
For cheeks, apply Enchanted cream blush on cheeks as a base, and then layer Golden Sand bronzer to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Kraft lipstick first, and then layer Fold and Tuck lipglass for a complementing lip.
Check out more photos!
I look a little orange or bronzed, because I am was testing
out a new tinted moisturizer, but the shade is a wee darker than my
actual skin tone. But I didn’t want to toss the whole look out the
window, so let’s just go with super bronze, okay? 🙂
I love this look! The eyes are very pretty, I think it’s better without the nude pencil on the waterline. You’re right about the tinted moisturiser, it’s definitely not the right shade for you, lol.
Thanks, Anita!
Christine, the TM is blended in well, so it really just looks like you have a tan! I don’t think it’s too bad at all, but of course it’s not quite the right shade. I can’t wait to see your swatches and reviews of the Cle de Peau eyeshadows. When I was shopping Saks F&F this weekend I was thisclose to picking something up at the CdP counter, but I just couldn’t quite do it 😉
Do you apply the Guerlain kohl with that method of closing your eye around the tip and gently pulling it out? I’ve seen videos of that but it always weirded me out!
lol! I figure Almond might be a match come late July, after some of the summer has passed!
I look up and away, personally, because my eye blinks wayyy too much if I try to do it closed!
I really want to buy a Guerlain kohl but I don’t know how to apply it. Can you do a tutorial or do you have one out already? Thanks!
I’ll see what I can do!
That makeup is divine !
Thank you!
Super pretty! =) Reminds me that summer is right around the corner!
Thanks, YJ!
The coral color reminds me of clinique’s posh squash. Looks really nice with brown also.ohhh I can’t wait to see what tinted moisturizer that is the color payoff seems great.
I’m wearing Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free in this look!
how do you like opulash???
When I’ve finished testing, I’ll be sure to review 🙂
Sorry, I´m so curious! 🙂
Loving this look. It feels like something I could and would do 🙂 I don’t know if I like those Cle de Peau shades just yet (the Coral Crepe paint pot seems to wash them out a bit).
Oh, I was thinking it would be easier and clearer (for me at least) if you could mark the products you’ve already reviewed differently from the ones you haven’t. Like maybe put them in italic or underline or something like that? (I know they are underlined when you hover over them.) Just a suggestion 🙂 And I don’t mind the bronzed look, it looks like you just went on a holiday!
Hey Roxanne,
I thought about it, but I hate the way it looks — very jumbled, all over the place, and hard to read because there ends up being too much going on 🙁
Thanks for the suggestion, though!
Hmm, I can see that. Thanks for taking it into consideration anyway 😀
I think I originally had non-linked ones as gray, and it was totally bugging me, lol!
I like the colors you used on your eyes & lips, but I think you over did it on the bronzer… your face looks too orange. Though it could be the light or the picture…..
Hey Carly,
I’m not sure if you missed it, but in the post, I mentioned that I am testing out a new tinted moisturizer, which is a shade too dark for me, but I didn’t want to just waste the look, so I still took photos.
Wow – you are really making me want to buy that Coral Crepe p/p! I just hope it’s still around by my pay day this Friday.
I don’t feel it’s quite as versatile as I’d like, personally! If you’re a paint pot fan, worth getting, but not necessarily a must-have no matter what!
Okay – thanks for that. The p/p that are in current rotation is Groundwork, Rubinesque and sometimes Bare Study. I also use the neutral benefit creaseless shadows as a base. I was thinking of expanding my p/p color wheel but it’s good to know your opinion.
I love when YOU save me money hahahaha!
Love the look, very pretty.
And you do look very toasted! Haha.
The foundation is a shade too dark, sorry – I just liked the way the eyes turned out, but I didn’t want to throw away the whole look. I was hoping people could look past the slightly darker foundation! 🙂
I’m sure we are all looking past it at the rest of the look, but you have to admit it’s pretty funny 😛
that is the color i expected coral crepe paintpot to be. too bad you have to use an eyeshadow to change it. this is probably one of my favorite looks.
Well, most paint pots are often better as a base, than used alone, so it’s not really a failing, I’d say! 🙂
Thanks, Melly!
This look is so pretty if you forget the extra bronzing! 😀
Coral Crepe works really well with your coloring. I’m worried it might look dirty with pale and warm skintone like mine but it seems so perfect for bronzy summer looks and might also make blue eyes pop.
Thanks, Heli! I think it’s a harder shade to wear, just because it is a bit dirty/muddy looking to begin with.
Love the Buffy reference! Great summer look:)
Thanks, Minxy 🙂 Buffy <3!
This is one of your best looks!!! Gorgeous!!!
Thanks, Sara!
What do u think of the laura mercier tinted moisturizer? When will u be reviewing it? I think its great and has good coverage.
I will review it when I finish testing it 🙂
Very pretty! I am so glad that you can downplay the coral PP if you want to. I think if you ever want to fake a bronze look Christine, this works well. I would change my mind if it looked way different in natural light.
It could work, but definitely would have to make sure to cover my neck and chest so it looked seamless, haha!
Coral looks great on you!!!
Thanks, Tia!
Love the eyes! Mirage looks lovely on you, you should always wear it 🙂
Thank you, Annika!
I love this look. I am definitely getting Coral Crepe paint pot now 🙂 x
Thanks so much, Livia 🙂
I love it! It’s simple and fresh.
I feel like buying the painpot and khol.
Thanks, Lili!
The Guerlain Kohl is SO PRETTY! Love that! I would check it out but it doesn’t seem like the kind of think I could keep sanatized very easily.
Also – Opulash looks nice on your lashes. I’ll be interested in hearing what you think of it when the time comes (especially since you and I both seem to favor the same mascara already).
Thanks, Dusty!
Opulash is nice, but it’s mostly just LENGTH – which is great – except my lashes need more help than that. I also love how black Plushlash is, so that will keep me on the Plushlash side still as well.
I absolutely love this look!! =D
Thanks, Casey!
Love this look! I have never tried wearing e/s but u make it look so pretty that I wanna try it 🙂 as for the tinted moisturizer, I love it it’s my HG T.moisturizer! U might wanna try nude. I’m nc25 and I’m using nude. I tried sand and its a bit dark for me..
Good to know — thank you, Katrina! 🙂
On my previous comment I said I’ve nver tried wearing e/s but I meant I’ve never tried wearing coral e/s. Lol
This look is beautiful on you! I do love the coral lips and the coral eyes…reminds me of the beach. Perfect look for a warm summery night on the town after a sunny day catching some rays on the beach!
Thank you so much, Lowie!
Love it! This looks very fresh/soft but still fun! 🙂
Thanks so much, Sher!
nice look…esp the cle de peau shadows…i wish they were available here!
for reference, i use the laura mercier tinted moisturiser in almond – and i am nw35/nw40 in mac (depending on the formula and time of year etc…)
Oh, wow!!
Wow, I didn’t think the wrong shade of tinted moisturizer could be that easily detected. Oh well, glad you posted the look anyway! Too bad it’s cloudly where I live 🙁
Oh, yeah, it can be! It’s mostly because my neck is totally a different color, so it can look real obvious!
Love how the coral picks up your eye highlights!
Aw, thanks a lot!
i tried almond LM TM and im NC35 and its waaay too dark. its probably more for someone in the low NC40’s
Pretty!
Thanks, LNU! 🙂
gosh, you LOVE your femme fi. what make you love it so much?
It’s the perfect highlighter for my skin tone — it’s not cool-toned, but it’s not super warm or gold, so it can work with a variety of looks. It’s very smooth, soft, and pigmented. It has sheen/shimmer, but it’s not ultra frosty either.
such a beautiful look!!! you did it again!!! love it!!!
Thanks, Luisafer!
ur lashes look amazing!
Thanks, Evelyn!
wow!! that opulash makes your lashes stand out!!! I know you’re not finish testing yet but it looks amazing!!
Thanks, Samantha!
Thats a very nice look on you.
Thanks, Diana!
looooooving this lip combo.
Thank you, Lexi!
I really love this look. I wonder if I could approximate it with Paridsco? Hmmmmm….
Thanks a lot, Michelle! Yes, I think you could!
Hm, I always love how your eyes look with just the bottom lashline lined. I’ve been meaning to try it but I don’t know how it will look! I always line my upper lashline, just never the lower one.
Give it a try, Roxanne!! 🙂 I think you’ll like it!
i like the mascara you’re using, the opulash? it’s working well for you. looks longer than usual!
Yep, Opulash! 🙂
i LOVE this look on you! so subtle yet very pretty!
Thank you, Cynthia!
So pretty!! I’m a sucker for corals, and will have a go at this look tomorrow. Thanks as always Christine.
Thanks, Shweta!
hey christine i was wondering which tinted moisturizer you like best the laura mercier the koress watermelon or the benefit you rebel(if you have tried that) thank you
I have not tried Laura Mercier’s long enough to give a review at this time, sorry! 🙁
You look gorgeous even if the tinted moisturizer is a little to dark for you. You made it work! Your eyes look fantastic!!!
Thank you, Lisa!
I actually read in a magazine (advice from a MUA) that wearing a half-shade darker than your skin colour is a good way to look bronzed or tan without being unnatural-looking!
You look a tiny bit orange but I don’t think the foundation colour looks noticeably out of place – just as if you got tan (You could skip bronzer!).
How’s the opulash?
Interesting! 🙂 Maybe if you took it all the way down to neck/chest it would work.
Opulash is nice, but not my fave.
for me the highlight was a little too white for the bronzey skin you have atm but it was a beautiful look nonetheless!
Thanks, Stephanie!
Great look! I really have to think about getting that coral paint pot. I am NC 35-37, (NC 40 in midsummer) and I have been using the Laura Mercier TM in Sand, so I’m not sure if it is the right shade for you. Maybe you’ll want to try a lighter shade. Just a head’s up :).
Thanks a lot, Anisa! 🙂
the look is amazing sweetie n hey TM wasnt too bad u know i actually was seeing me instead of u wearing this one hahahah
i can make out that it will suit me …
i badlly want the paint pot but again as u said its not must have i already have 3 n love them … so m thinking if i can skip that and infact this months shopping is already done so see if i buy it in india after 2 – 3 months….
love the lips dear wowow yummilaciaous ….(spell check pls)
Thank you so much, Rashmi! 🙂
Oh, that’s why you look a little dark here. I love this look, the shadow colors and the lip color are heavenly.
Ahh, they matched me wrong for the tinted moisturizer too.
I’m an NW25/NC30 and they matched me with nude.
The colour is about 2 shades lighter… ):
But I still love this t. moisturizer!
What shade ended up being the right match for you’?
ooo…beautiful look.
i thought you looked a bit tan. I was like: “dang..Christine has been tanning” but I read your little note afterwards. hehe.
Thanks, Aubree 😉
How is it you are applying your TM?
I apply it with my hands — like any moisturizer 🙂
Hi Christine! Have you swatched the Cle de Peau eyeshadows before? I would love to see them!
Yes, I have — http://www.temptalia.com/cle-de-peau-satin-eye-color-in-101-107-review-photos-swatches
Sooooo pretty!
Thank you, Sun!
I really love the eyes. Definitely must get Coral Crepe when it comes out over here
Thanks, Dawn!
That look is super pretty on you, but do you think you could do the look with a more grounded makeup line? I just don’t know many who could afford that expensive of makeup. I know there are, of course, some women who can afford a half a Benjamin on one eyeshadow, but I believe the majority of your readers cannot.
Hi Valene,
I do looks with a variety of brands and price points — the majority of my looks are done using MAC, which is significantly more affordable than the majority of high-end brands. I think this may be one of only a handful of looks using very high-end/luxury lines, so I invite you to look into the archive, which includes overs 300 looks. You don’t have to use what I use in order to replicate a look, either — it is an idea, but you are always welcome to use what you own, whatever it may be, if a look interests you. 🙂 I would certainly not expect or want anyone to purchase every product I use, whether the product is $1 or $50! My hope is that it may give you an idea on what to pair with certain colors or products that you may own.
my kind of look
Thanks, Jaspreet!
Love it Christine, beautiful look!
Love the eye make up, and the lipstick looks great! Kraft is the only one I didn’t get from the collection though, but I absolutely adore Fold and Tuck lipglass, I normally wear it with a very bare lipstick underneath, or none at all.
It’s so funny because I saw the picture, and I was like “oh my, why is her skin so orange??” and then I saw the caption and I thought “oh I see!”
You’re adorable Christine, haha. The lashes look divine! BTW, I know in your review for the Opulash mascara you didn’t curl them before hand, but did you curl them here?
Yes, I curled them here 🙂
Wow, this is so pretty! It’s natural enough to wear daily, even to school! I’ve been looking for different natural school looks, this will be one I’m trying! Thanks! ^^
Thank you, Hannelore!
Hey Christine, not sure if you’re still answering questions on this post, but I was just wondering if you could think of any MAC dupes for the three Cle de Peau shadows in this look? I think it’s totally gorgeous (this, and your other Pret-a-papier look totally inspired me to go out and buy Coral Crepe), but I only have MAC shadows, and I really suck at figuring out dupes, so hopefully you can help me out – thanks!
Maybe something like Hush, Sushi Flower, Soft Brown…
I’m NC35/37 and I use the LM tinted moisturizer in fawn; really like it.
After trying a sample of coral crepe, I had to get the full size. It’s so pretty and versatile. Really brings up the lids of my hooded eyes.
So glad you love Coral Crepe!
Omigosh! Are you a Buffy fan?
More like Spike/Buffy! I never watched the show much, but I loved those characters together.
Oooh, I LOVE this look! So pretty!
Thanks, Michelle!
You look great with these shades! Even tho it’s a bit dark, you can pull it off.
Thank you! 🙂
