- Do you have any year-end traditions?: For me, a lot of is pulling best-of lists for the blog. My husband and I usually go out for a nice dinner on New Year’s Eve, but we haven’t figured out what we’re doing this year quite yet.

I’ve been loving the Viseart palettes! If I could rewind time and go back and only get one eye shadow brand, this would be it.
I am looking forward to the Bon Bons palette though. The original chocolate bar is one of my favorites.

Haul: Sephora Holographic Lip glosses in Fuchsia Mermaid, Good Fairy, and Pretty Princess. (These will be so pretty as toppers for my spring lip sticks!). Bite Beauty Lab Limited lipsticks in 003 (Chilly Pepper), 004 (Dragon Fruit), 002 (Japanese Eggplant), and 012 ( the new holiday red-pink color). I also picked up Estée Lauder Envy lipsticks in Infamous and Tumultuous Pink because I am starting to get really excited about spring colors!
Weekend plans: Two Christmas parties, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.
New Years: We don’t actually celebrate New Years, although we usually do plan a January mini- vacation to rest and recover from the holidays.

*Haul- my first Charlotte Tilbury order! Fallen Angel shadow quad and Flawless Airbrush Powder. And my first Rouge Bunny order! I’ve been eyeing the Raw Garden shadow palette for years, and finally got it for almost 35% off during BF/CM deal. I’ve only swatched on my hands, and the shadows are pigmented and buttery smooth, hope they do well on my lids. ELF Smudge Pots in Wine Not and Back to Basics. I have more orders coming, but they were delayed at shipping due to too much demand
*Weekend – play with makeup goodies, do returns, some Christmas shopping, relax
*YE traditions – my husband and I usually cook crab and have a quiet dinner on NY Eve, but crab season has been cancelled, and we have a 2 yr old, so it’s going to be partying with her. But she’s quite the little party animal!
Just my parents, so it’s really not a big deal! 🙂

You KNOW I have a need to know if you like Fallen Angels…since we like much of the same makeup. I’ve purchased Charlotte’s Magic Cream (hated the smell – it’s pretty strong and the kind of smell you either love or hate), WonderGlow (didn’t look right on me; made me look oily), Air Brush Flawless (I tried one as a contour which failed and another as a powder which was decent)..also mine came with her brush which has a lot of bristle fallout but I do still use. I haven’t tried any of her cheek, eye, or lip products yet.
I used to do crabs from NYE when i lived in MD. My (now ex) husband was from Annapolis so it pretty much was a tradition. Sorry you’ll be missing out this year! Have fun with your little one!
Great minds think alike LOL I’ve read nothing but rave reviews on Fallen Angel, so will test it out and let you know. Also came with her Rock N Roll Eyeliner. Hope I have better luck with her products. And I got all 3 Nocturnal Eyes (gasp), coming in on Monday. I’m still testing LM Caviar Stick in Plum, final verdict isn’t in yet, but will let you know . Yeah, I’m really bummed crab season got cancelled, but maybe next year, there will be more for us ! Maybe we’ll do lobster 🙂

Saks (10% Off): Tom Ford Lips and Boys (Egon). My first TF. I’m really happy with Egon; it’s a nice every day lip color. I have to say, though, while I think it’s a nice color and it’s good quality, I really don’t think it’s much better than many of my other lipsticks which I paid less for. There are a couple other shades I saved in my cart(s) but not sure I’ll end up buying them.
Neiman Marcus (20% Off): Fashion Agenda by Karl: 2016. Admittedly this isn’t per se beauty, but it is beauty-related. It’s a planner with pics, quotes, and illustrations of Karl Lagerfeld and includes international fashion show schedules along with standard holidays.
Lord & Taylor (10% Off): Laura Mercier Matte to Metal Holiday Caviar Stick Colour Collection. Too many of your readers seem to like this product and between your review and Katherine’s “encouragement” I couldn’t resist. I think this is supposed to be delivered Monday.
Walgreens (25% Off): Kevin Murphy – Angel Rinse for Fine Colored Hair, Session Spray Finishing Spray, and Born Again Essential Treatment. I had never heard of this hair care line until I read a number of beauty articles from beauty editors praising the quality. I purchased the Anti Gravity last week and loved it. So I went to their website and watched a bunch of videos and picked out a hair care regimen (their Facebook staffed quickly helped with questions). Walgreens had a few of the items so I was able to buy at a discount. I will be going tomorrow to a salon to pick up the remaining products I want (I guess that’s next week’s haul.)
Laura Mercier (20% Off): Daring By Night Eye & Cheek Colour Palette. I liked the shades in this palette and at 20% off with free shipping today, $38 for a palette seemed very reasonable. The mix of grey/silver/navy/black is a nice palette for my skin tone and style and the highlighter looks like it will be perfect!
Daughter’s Gift to Me: JINSoon polish (Mica), Burberry Kisses lipstick (Oxblood)
Weekend plans: Go to salon to get the other Kevin Murphy products I want. Ongoing work on house(s). Mani today; if my Smith & Cult Dark Like Me shows up (FedEx was delayed) I will use it if not, I’m going with the JINSoon Mica my daughter bought me.
Do you have any year-end traditions?: Like in Christmas Story, we always go for Chinese on Christmas. I’m a big geek so I’m looking forward to the Doctor Who Christmas Special too! Unsure about parties and other plans right now.
Can’t wait to see if you like the Caviar Stick set as much as I do, Michele! I think it is a great way to try the formula.
I like TF lipsticks as well, but unless they are particularly unique, I prefer other formulas!
Michelle, can you let me know how you like Kevin Murphy Angel Rinse? I’ve never heard of him either, but after googling, that sounds like a product I could use – I’m +40 and have colored hair that tends to get weighed down, so need volume at oilier roots but moisture for the drier ends.
Katherine, it’s a bit hard to nail down which product did what since I bought the entire “system” but here’s my thoughts: Yesterday, I only had the Anti Gravity Oil Free Volumizer. I used my regular Saturday shampoo and conditioner (Alterna Repair RX) and then used the volumizer instead of the Living Proof mousse I normally used. After blow drying, my hair did have more volume than usual. I curled the ends up to the middle using a large curling iron (hair is roughly shoulder length) and combed through with a wide tooth comb. I used the LP Flex hairspray and the body lasted almost all day. Today, I used the Angel Wash, Angel Rinse 3/4 amount combined with the Born Again Treatment 1/4 amount (per the KM video). After showering, my hair appeared visibly more dense and the strands seemed thicker esp. when I brushed back with my Olivia Garden wet brush. Then I blew dry using the Anti Gravity on my roots to mid length and Full Again mid length to end (recommended by the KM Facebook folks). My hair had more volume than I’ve seen since I was a teenager (I am also +40…actually will be 50 in 2016 and happily claim those years bc I’ve earned them! My hair has always been baby fine, I’ve colored my hair since I was in my 20s, and now it’s also thinner. *frowny face*) This time I curled the same way but used a smaller barrel iron. My hair had tons of curls which I smoothed out a bit with the wide tooth comb. I finished using the Session Spray. The Session Spray has amazing hold but when you first apply it, it’s pretty “firm”. If you work it through, it softens. Over the course of the day, the feel softened. The curls and body lasted all day. Even brushing my hair with a paddle brush to pull it back to wash my face did not make the curls or volume diminish. So, so far I’m extremely happy with what I bought. The products aren’t cheap, but then I’ve bought all kinds of high dollar hair products (Gloss Moderne, Oribe, R+Co., Drybar, Alterna…) and didn’t get the results I got from the Kevin Murphy ones. He has a ton of really helpful videos on his website so you might want to check them out. There’s also a salon finder there to find a salon near you. Apparently he’s done quite a bit with Fashion Week and celebrity styling.
Wow, thanks for the detailed info! Glad this is working great for you. I don’t think I need the entire system yet, but in a few years, who knows (I’m 46), and if I do, I definitely know who to ask !! My hair is medium but getting thinner, but still ok for now, but always looking for better of course. I’ve been using gentle DS shampoos/conditioners and low heat dryers. I do love TIGI Bead Head Superstar Queen For A Day Thickening Spray. I do 3 spritzes on towelled dry hair, then blow dry, and it gives me about 30% more volume that lasts all day, and you can fluff your hair to refresh it. It’s not sticky and doesn’t weigh my hair down either. I’ve gone through 3 big bottles and always stock up during Ulta sale. Anyways, thanks for the tips on the Kevin Murphy line, might check out his videos
Hmmmm – and thank you for the TIGI tip. Never tried their thickening spray. I might pick one up with my 20% off Ulta coupon to keep as a back up.
Katherine, for what it’s worth, Refinery 29 just named Kevin Murphy’s Angel Rinse and Angel Wash products “destined to become cult classics” in 2016.

Nars despair & Sandra, from f&f. Despair mimics the Paula’s Choice palette in-pan, but they don’t swatch or look the same, at all. Sandra is swoon for me, and the Audacious brown reds are complete. Yay. Big S goofed my $ off. My first xmas order, from CafePress is maybe off, too. One lone package came before 6:30A on a Sun, when I had gotten home @ 11P. On Sat. Now I KNOW that had been misdelivered to a wrong address. There’s an American Pharoah sweatshirt for a friend who just lost her ex and is likely to lose her father soon. It’s my only perfect gift this season, so I don’t want it MIA.

Haul: NuFace Mini! Finally decided to try another beauty device after my Clarisonic Mia stopped working several months ago and it has passed its one-year warranty and Clarisonic refused to provide any further service for it.

Oh no! How long did you have your Clarisonic Mia for? Obviously a year but it doesn’t sound like that much longer?
I have had it since end of 2012, so it’s been a while. I then asked if they can repair it for me. They said no coz the battery is built-in and can’t be replaced. They said the most they can offer is 20% discount for purchasing a new one (20% for Clarisonic from other retailers is not uncommon). Not so sure if I still want to do business with them now. I think my next cleansing device would be FOREO.

Haul: I had to dip my toes back into the last day of the Tatcha sale. I picked up the face and eye mask along with the blotting papers. Bobbi Brown holiday shimmer brick in pink and luxe lip color in Hot Rose and Hibiscus (20% off): a few weeks ago or so Haute look had Ardency Inn and I bought a bunch of the Modster smooth ride liners for like $7 or something crazy good . They just arrived this week. I totally had forgotten about them and really happy because I have been wanting to try them . I got Turquoise, Lilac,Cream, Grass, Grey,& Hot pink. Nyx contour palette, KVD X Formula X trio and the duos Mercy. i already have Adora in the duo. Ive not had a chance to use them though. I read the reviews and they were mostly positive and I really like KVD’s shades and I need nail colors. it’s the one thing I do not like to pay a lot for in the cosmetic world. But, man these are tiny! So, i may test out one set to see how I do with them. Drunk Elephant C-Firma day serum, Dr Gross Alpha beta medi-spa weekly peel, Sephora brand hair brushes-medium round brush,dual boar, and Nylon paddle. May return the paddle because I ordered a wet brush after using my daughter’s and I loved it! I also picked up some Sephora brand hair clips for sectioning hair.I got a new flat iron. So, it spurred a feeling to get my hair game in check. 🙂
weekend plans: tonight -more shopping for gifts-trying yo wrap this up by mid next week. Sat., my daughter has a Birthday party to go to which is about an hour drive. So, I have to transport her. I decided we should start going to church again. So, I’m trying to get us there in the evening. Sun, my sister and I are getting grandkid pictures for my parents. I need to do the usual laundry, etc .too! The Holidays get sooo busy! At least people usually are cheery! 🙂
End of the year traditions: I usually clean out the house. kinda like a jump start on Spring cleaning. But, Just a clear-it out. Donate, second-hand sell-it, whatever. But, the last two years, I just wasn’t feeling well. I’m going to try to do that this year. Or at least do what I can.

Oh, gosh, Mellan is the most spoiled dog on the planet. All of his beds are from Orvis (deep dish, memory foam). The one in the photo in the post is the large size, but he also has a medium, which he fits well curled up in (it also fits his travel cage). My top rec would be to search Amazon, because they have a lot of dog products and plenty of reviews. I just bought a thin memory foam pad for his travel cage as well for maybe $20~ so they have options!
Haha. I’m kinda jealous of Mellan’s bed for myself! Lol. I need a new matress too. So, not spending a fortune on the dog bed. She usually just lays out of it anyhow. Good idea…Amazon saves the day!

Do you have any year-end traditions?: Not really. I actually think New Years is kind of a downer! I just do a little clean up and donate some clothes or belongings. A lot of clutter accumulates during Christmas because I tend to over-buy on presents, and so do the people who give me gifts!

Haul: Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black gift set + the Sephora sparkly black makeup bag filled with samples that was free with the order (used my $25 Sephora loyalty rewards). Hubby bought me Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks in Mistletoe, Anna Nicole, Prom Night and Blow Pony from their last sale, and those arrived.
Weekend plans: Pick my son up from hubby’s relatives down in Eugene. Hopefully, wrap some Christmas gifts.
Do you have any year-end traditions? We stay in for New Years Eve. We always make an extra nice dinner on New Year’s Eve, and have sparkling wine for us and sparkling apple cider for our sons. We stay up watching movies and playing games. A couple minutes before midnight, we bust out the sparkling wine/cider. I always kiss my hubby, then we enjoy our wine. In the 28 years since we first started dating, he and I have missed only one New Year’s kiss. We don’t bother with resolutions.
EVERYBODY raves about the Elizabeth & James Nirvana perfumes. I want to try, but I am so scared I won’t like them, lol!

I love both Nirvanas, but I don’t have a full-sized Nirvana White…yet. I got samples when they first launched, and I got the roller ball duo when Sephora had it as a point perk a while back, so I knew I liked them before I bought the set.

Haul: Burberry eyeshadow singles in Nude and Shell, Burberry Fresh Glow highlighter pen in Nude Radiance, Surratt lip color in Hevyn (great everyday shade), Dior Addict lipstick in Tribale, Murad AHA/BHA exfoliating cleanser. I also pulled the trigger and got the Tatcha dewy skin spray mist, but I’m not sure it was worth the dinero. Anyone have any thoughts on how best to use this?
Weekend plans: my husband’s son is coming over to help us put together the day bed for the guest room. I’m recovering from a head cold, so will be cheering them on from afar.
New years: we don’t have a tradition, really. There is a cute little wine bar about a mile from our house, so we might drop in for a glass of bubbly.
Surratt has a lot of great, everyday kind of shades! I bet that one is lovely.

Wal-Mart: Nail-Aid 3 Minute Artificials, another Sinful Gel Tech nail polish in a dark beige tan shade of which I cannot get up to see its name due to Pookie commandering my lap! Eeyore PJ’s, too (not makeup, but just as fun).
Weekend plans: tomorrow my hair ordeal, straighten up my kitchen, Sunday is a one day Special Assembly I go to twice yearly.
Do you have any year-end traditions: Nope! But I do look out for special sales, especially clearanced clothing, household items and of course, makeup!
LOL! My husband just walked in an hour ago and started laughing, because Mellan was upside with all four legs straight in the air, his jowls hanging low. It was hilarious, but I don’t think Mellan found it so funny!
Tom Ford’s regular line of perfumes is really good. Sometimes I cannot tell what makes them any different from the Private Blend range!

These weren’t things I was really crazy about, but I got them because they were reduced so much and I can use them as individual stocking stuffers, or keep them and use them as lazy day colors (I usually tend towards bright reds, purples, fuchsias and dark colors for lipstick, mostly matte, so these colors are different for me. I have been trying to get more nudes and pinks into my life lately. I don’t know why.).
-From Ulta, a bunch of little things for stocking stuffers and for me, two of the new Burt’s Bees lipsticks, in Magenta Rush and Scarlet Soaked. Mostly I got them because they came with a GWP-a cosmetic bag with a rose print on it. I’m a sucker for rose anything and it looks sooo pretty in the pictures.
Weekend plans: I may go to a festival downtown tomorrow. I need to go to Target and get some hot chocolate/mug type Christmas gifts, as I’ll be going to a Christmas Eve party with a whole bunch of people I don’t know and have never met and I need something generic to hand out. I need to catch up on my sleep. I had the flu this week and I’m still so tired from it. I did manage to set up my makeup desk though-I was really struggling to find the right desk for my space and I got the idea that instead of getting a desk, I would get a really long folding table. It’s about 70-some inches long and 18 inches wide, which just gives you an idea of how much space I have for a desk, lol. But I got it set up in my room with all of my makeup on it and it was like the finishing touch to make this place feel like home. As much as I love living here, it really didn’t feel like home until I had that finished. Of course I’ve been too sick to sit down and enjoy it, but maybe this weekend!
Do you have any year-end traditions?: Nope. I used to at least watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the animated one-as a testament to how tired I am, I first wrote it down as The Grinch Before Christmas, OMG I need to take a nap), but I don’t know if I’ll get to this year.

Weekend plans: Pack for Christmas vacation with the in-laws and write a final paper for one of my courses! And hang out with my mom and brother before leaving 🙂

It’ll probably go into a larger palette! I’m kind of kicking myself, I have about 9 of the shades from previous palettes (the Studio Case, Artist palette, Jamie Chung & Anreja Pejic sets). But I didn’t really compare before buying, so I think I’ll move the ones I don’t already have into a larger z-palette or something! And bundle the ones I have already 😀 Also, the collector’s set case doesn’t fit into my “drawer of palettes” anymore, hehe, so I’ll definitely have to transfer anyway I think! 😉

Weekend plans: DECORATE – we, or I should say hubby keeps putting it off because there is so much stuff to be pulled out of our attic! And I’ll do some baking.
Year end traditions – a friend of mine who is on her own and isn’t really very close with her family always comes to stay for NYE. We play board games and eat yummy, easy stuff and have some champagne at midnight and then take a walk around the neighbourhood to greet the new year.

Weekend, I’m going shopping for Christmas gifts Saturday and Sunday I’m going to the yearly big dog exhibition or whatever its called. I’m going to watch the schnauzer showing to support my dogs breeders.
New Year, very simple, just something good to eat and a bottle of champagne, a good film or two.

Haul: Nothing. I finally got the code thing straightened out with Sephora. You have to call in to get one when you place a telephone order. Unfortunately, everything I was planning on getting is sold out. I could buy some makeup and use it but I’d really been saving my money for skincare and one lipstick. A bit upset. I may go into the store and see if they can originate a code there.
Weekend Plans: Everything was cancelled due to my husbands work schedule. It’s going to be another Netflix Marathon.
Year End Traditions: I will pull together some best of lists for the blog and then I will wish my sister happy birthday. Since her birthday is NYE, we always make it about her instead.

Haul – I have decided, at long last, to purchase Naked 2 – I have Naked 1 and that is great, but I really need the 2 palette. So my son is giving it to me for Christmas. But I am going with him to make sure he gets the right one….

Year End Traditions: Our New Years Eve varies – sometimes we go out to a restaurant, sometimes we go to watch the fireworks in the city, sometimes celebrate with friends. It varies. Lately though, we have tended to stay home with our family. The big day is the next day.
My sister and her partner, his mother, plus our family always come for lunch on New Year’s Day. It is often quite warm, so we have a big BBQ, with lots of different salads.

Haul: MAC Evening Rendezvous Lipstick came in the mail and I just order the MAC Von Teese lipstick as well, though that should show up next week or so. I also got my huge Body Shop order in, and went in to the store to repurchase my Chamomile eye makeup remover. I got two fresh face masks at Lush, the LE Cranberry one and the new Rosy Cheeks one. The Charlotte Tilbury Fallen angel quad came in along with the Rock’n’Kohl eyeliner in Bedroom Black. I got the VIB Rouge Marc Jacobs lip creme (ack not VIB Rouge, that’s a sign to slow down) and two things from Burberry- the Festive Gold lipstick and the Festive Gold creme eyeshadow from their holiday collection.
Weekend plans: Possibly brave the crowds at REI as I REALLY need a new raincoat.

Haul: Polo Black After Shave for my husband and Snowflake Waltz from Fyrinnae — and it is GORGEOUS!! I’m hoping they come up with more shadows like this one as it’s pigmented enough (over Pixie Epoxy) to wear on its own (though, of course, I do the whole crease contouring thing).
Weekend plans: Wrap some gifts, make sure the outfits my husband and I are wearing to a party next weekend are clean, ironed, and ready to put on (you have no idea how stressed I’ve been in anticipation of this event…), foil my nails, touch up my hair color… that’s the whole weekend there! LOL
Do you have any year-end traditions?: My husband and I went on our first date on December 14, 1996… so we celebrate that each year. Seventeen days after that first date, on New Year’s day, he proposed, then we got married on Valentine’s Day. Basically, he and I are in an almost constant state of celebration from mid-December to mid-February! =) I suppose the only tradition is… I’ve given my husband a new ornament every year (starting in 1996) so this year’s will be ornament #19. 😀
