Makeup wipes take off most of it. I usually use Kirkland, but I like Olay and Neutrogena as well. I travel with my regular bhCosmetics Eye & Lip Makeup Remover. The bottles are small enough to pack. I haven’t had it leak, but I put it inside a ziplock baggie just in case. It’s inexpensive enough I don’t have to worry if it gets left behind or damaged.
I love makeup wipes for travel. Mac are my favorite with Kirkland from Costco coming in a close second at a much cheaper price. They both are available in travel sizes. Quick, easy and convenient.
Neutrogena makeup remover cloths. They won’t leak!

I buy the small package of the Simple Makeup Remover wipes. You don’t need to pack then with your liquids and they take up virtually no space.
I like the Lancôme Bi-Facil too but I also like the Clinique Take The Day Off makeup remover. I don’t buy either these days as I still have some small travel sizes left to use but I’ve moved onto the Nivea Essentials Double Effect Eye Make-Up Remover. It’s inexpensive and is pretty much as good as the more expensive ones. It’s saved me money since I go through a lot of makeup remover! I recommend trying it to see if you like it since it could save you money too. I’m not sure if it’s just in the UK or if you can get it elsewhere though, that’s the only thing. ?
My Nivea waterproof make-up remover does a pretty good job, both at home and whilst traveling! 🙂
The Sephora black magic makeup cloths are awesome. $12 for 2 and they are reusable for sooooo long. Yes it’s a more expensive investment initially but it’s worth it!
I have a couple travel sizes of Clinique TTDO I received as GWPs and use those along with a travel pack of makeup remover wipes, usually Neotrogena.
I’m liking the balms these days. For straight removal, The Clinique in the purple tub is good. But, you need a second cleanse. I recently started using Sunday Riley Blue Moon. I did not like it as a first cleanse . But, I love it as a second cleanse. Or, it works as a step one and two. But, I have read reviews where people just use it alone. It’s expensive, $50. I am wanting to try the new Pixi cleansing balm too. Caroline Hirons approved! Those travel well. You can scoop them into a smaller container.
Was using cleansing oils for years, but as a make-up artist I had to find some quick and effective removers I can put make-up on, without washing the face.
Number one is Make Up For Ever’s SENS’EYES Waterproof Sensitive Eye Cleanser (meant for eyes, but why not for whole face. It removes so effectively, that you can change your liner shape without smudging etc.).
And other (was sceptical even to try it for a long time as its concistence seems like water) is Bioderma Sensibio H2O. Removes makeup and dirt quickly and completely leaving skin glowing.
I really like oil based removers with a balm like texture like Abolene or Lush Ultrabland when I travel. Both are highly effective in removing even the most stubborn eye makeup and since they’re semi-solid, I don’t have to worry about them leaking in my bag they way I would with an oil free liquid remover, a cleansing oil or even a cream remover. I just scoop out the amount I think I’ll need into small travel container (I use an old empty jar from an eye cream) and toss it in my bag. Takes up next to no space and there’s no mess.
Ditto to what Christine said. I also like Klorane’s rosewater (eye) makeup remover and MAC makeup remover wipes.
I have a travel sized version of Lancome Bi-Facil also as well as MAC’s Cleanse Off oil in a sized-to-go bottle. I have a GWP size of Clarins Pure Melt (oh how I wish it were easy to refill) which is lovely because it’s like a more solid, gel-type oil that liquifies as you rub it onto your face. This makes it great for travel since it’s less prone to spilling. I have a mini of Boscia foaming cleanser that I refill from my larger bottle and I take that with me to wash after I remover my makeup and I sometimes use cleansing wipes but I find they dry out between trips. We’re going to India in a few weeks and the travel rules and restrictions are so tricky to navigate as it seems to vary a bit from airline to airline (and, really, ladies – who here is going to use their expensive perfume, face lotion or toner to do harm??? Do these people KNOW how much we pay for this stuff?). Anyway, this post is really interesting to me and I’ll be looking for some portable options that perform well.
Hi the only rule of thumb to follow when travelling in india is to not have liquids of more than 100 ml in your carry on or Cabin baggage. The rest of the liquid bottles can be be put in the check in baggage.
In the past I have stuck with makeup wipes, but they burned my eyes and dried out my skin. Now I just have a little travel bottle filled with the Bioderma micellar water for sensitive skin. It’s pricey but I love it. I can’t wait to try the Garnier micellar water to see if it works as well.
For eyes I use Halo’s eye makeup remover wipes, they come in a dinky pack that’s perfect for travel. I have a travel size pot of Trilogy’s Make Up Be Gone cleansing balm, it’s lovely to use and takes everything off but I do have to bring along a flannel (face cloth) to get the balm off properly. It smells lovely too.
I tend to use wipes and a mini I make of whatever cleanser I’m using. Tatcha’s travel oil is great!
Travel size Tatcha camellia cleansing oil does it all.
My usual mu removers/ cleansers, but either travel sized or samples, if possible. I always keep a mini of baby oil for quick, gentle eye makeup removal, as I wear heavy-duty wp mascara and liner. I’d put as many of my Simple Exfoliating wipes in a ziploc bag as nights I’m staying. Put some unrefined coconut oil in a small container, as I use that before using the wipes!
Although, for eye mu remover, I would LOVE Momo’s oil mix recipe! I’d be forever grateful! ?
Banila Co. Clean it Zero Cleasning Balm. It’s a solid, so it doesn’t risk leaking everywhere. It emulsifies enough that a second cleanse is not really necessary. There are other cleansing balms on the market (Clinique), but Banila Co. is the most inexpensive.

The Body Shop camomille makeup remover balm. I use waterproof mascara so I need an oil based makeup remover. This one is great and in solid form so very travel-friendly,
I only ever travel with a carry on so I take makeup wipes when I’m travelling to cut down on the liquids
Baby wipes have been the best low cost option I’ve found on the road. You can buy them anywhere and they take off any eye makeup I have in a pinch. Dove soap is great for everything except the eyes too.
So many responses about make up wipes! I wish more people knew about the wonderful cleansing power of oils and a good old face cloth! Oil-based cleansers so effective & a bit more eco-friendly.
After wearing makeup I like to double cleanse, which isn’t the most space-saving for travel, but it’s worth it. Over the Christmas holidays I was travelling for 2.5 weeks and I brought a travel size shu uemura cleansing oil and a small pot of Tata Harper regenerative cleanser as well as a Boscia tabuki gel-oil cleanser to have a few options. I wish I had brought some bi-facil though! Nothing beats it 🙂
Botanic Farm’s Grain Ferment Cleansing Sherbet. It’s a cleansing balm so it travels great, and it removes makeup really effectively. Even stage makeup can be taken off in one wash, which is rare for makeup removers.
I have a 50ml bottle of Shu Uemura cleansing oil – I travel with that and refill it when back home. Also, I recently discovered The Body shop Cleansing balm – which though no Shu, is convenient for travel as there is no leakage.
