Urban Decay for Fall 2008 Review

I’m so excited to be able to share with you some of the latest from Urban Decay! Most of these products will be hitting stores August 1st, so head to your nearest UD location then. I was able to preview several hot items from the upcoming launch, including three of the new lipsticks, shadows, and the additions to the 24/7 line (lip pencils and concealer pencil!).

Now, let me tell you what I thought, plus share some photos!

In the swatch photo, here is what is pictured:

Left to right, top to bottom: Rush, Revolution, and Jilted Lipsticks; Shakedown, Electric, and Heist Shadows; Heavy, Wicked, Naked, and Gash 24/7 Liners (Ozone shows up clear, FYI!, so it didn’t show up in the swatch!)

I’m SO happy with the three lipsticks ($22 each) I tried, because they are all fantastic. Surprisingly, Rush is this gorgeous rosy pink, very subtle but the color pay off is great – it’s not sheer or anything, just the color is played down. I think this is a very MLBB kind of color. Jilted it a bright fuchsia-red shade, very in-your-face. I love the fuchsia-purple sheen it gives off. Revolution is a bright orange-based red. None of the three lipsticks I tried were shimmery, but they all have a good sheen. The packaging is nifty, though I don’t consider it practical. As much as I love it, I’m not sure how I’ll be storing these. They have a “dagger” that comes out of the top, and on the bottom it’s flat with the color name. You obviously can’t store it dagger-side down, but if you store them flat-side down, you don’t know what colors you have! I thought it was cool that they etched the UD dagger design into the lipstick itself, though.

The new 24/7 Lip Pencils ($16) are just like the 24/7 Eye Pencils (aka amazing). They are richly pigmented and ultra smooth. They glide on effortlessly, and they look very natural, because of the pencil’s smoothness. UD also came out with their dual pencil sharpener called “Grind House.” I tend to go for a brand’s sharpener, because I have yet to find a universal sharpener that works well for me. These lip pencils are supposed to be waterproof, so they can help your lipstick/gloss last longer, or the clear one can be used to prevent feathering.

The names for the 24/7 Concealer Pencils ($16) are definitely creative – they’re fatter, thicker versions of the Lip Pencils/Eye Pencils. Same smoothness and soft texture.

Admittedly, I don’t have a huge stash of Urban Decay sitting around my house–only recently have I tried the brand. The shadows don’t feel like the mattes I’m used to — these are super soft, but they feel smooth and buttery. Electric is this bright turquoise color (reminiscent of MAC’s Melody, long discontinued), and I think anyone who loves color needs to check it out. Heist and Shakedown are similar to each other, though they are discernibly different. They are grayish brown neutrals, so they’ll work well with some of the brighter lipsticks from UD fall.

Available at your local Urban Decay location (Sephora, Macy’s, www.urbandecay.com, www.sephora.com) beginning August 1st, 2008.

Oooh, all the lip colors are gorgeous! And waterproof lip pencils?! I’m all over that lol…the Urban Decay MUAs have tried to persuade me to buy more of their stuff, but I’m still a MAC loyalist…although I have to admit they have great products and interesting colors

Hi
The lipsticks really interest me but there’s just one thing I wonder about. How’s the taste/smell of the new UD lippies?
I’m pretty picky about the type of product I put on my lips.
One example of something I hate is the smell and taste of sephora brand lip products. Sooo yucky.

If you could get back to me on the smell and taste factor that would be awesome. <3

I heart urban decay! I do limit myself to one or two items everytime I go to sephora (so I can try diff brands), but I’m about to say screw it, and get as much as I can. I like UD like you guys like MAC….please don’t hate me!!!;-P

Thanks for responding!
Caramel doesn’t sound too terrible.
I’m definitely going to have to swatch these when they arrive in sephora. I’m a sucker for pretty packaging!
