For the most part, I think it’s a lot of fun, but I definitely let my friends know it might take a few tries with the eyeshadow since everyone’s eye shape is different. Because of that I’d rather leave more time for error than be rushed. Rushing makeup is no fun anyway. =)

Heather Avatar

It sure is difficult for me. Learning the curves, skin, coloring, not to mention preference of different people is challenging. I actually don’t feel too comfortable, but I suppose I’m still descent at it 🙂

Miss Silver Avatar

I haven’t had the chance to try it on others so I wouldn’t know. But the idea of it makes me nervous; I’m not that skilled, and I’m scared of messing up.

Anyway, I love your videos and tutorials!

victoria Avatar

i love to, every time, its like playing. but every time i do, my hands shake a bit because of the angle and i feel a bit challenged with different eye shapes. but for the most part, i love doing it because most of my friends are not crazy about makeup as i am.

Miss Kitty Avatar

i’m only comfortable with it if the other person is too. if i’m doing makeup on someone who’s constantly flinching when i go near their face, i’ll feel really uncomfortable. but generally i love it!

johnfiend Avatar

to be honest, im not comfortable doing my own make up.

i LOVE doing other peoples make up. especially winged out eyeliner.

i wish i could do my own make up as good as i can do others! haha

Mora Avatar

i was thinking about this a few day ago.
i plan to start a makeup-artist course next year.

i just was doing makeup a few month ago on my sister, it was quite weird. i mean, you touch people in their face, which is kind of a very private body part.

i mean, it’s normal to touch peoples hands or arms or shoulders but someone’s face?

dolce aria Avatar

Mostly, though I don’t think I’m the best at fitting others for foundation/skincare, etc. I love playing on other peoples faces though. it gets so boring ONLY focusing on my own bone struction/coloring.

Beto Kylie Avatar

That’s actually how I started my make-up hobby!!!
A friend asked me to do make-up for a Disney show for school. I had no previous experience, but I gave it a try, especially cause I suggested some fantastic Kylie Minogue looks for some characters and they were totally accepted!!!
Now I do make up for home photoshoots with cousins, friends (both boys and girls), and as favors for friends for who need make-up for a group (dance shows, videos etc), or for themselves on special occasions! Right now I’m in a large group doing cosplay (costume play / dress up) of some kind of pop star anime-like characters and I’m doing fun, colorful make-up for videos and comic-con outings!

Here are a few Kylie looks I did:

(Love to play with this one! Have used it on Halloween and even did a version in blue just for fun!)

(didn’t do this one, but it’s similar to the one above and so beautiful!)

ChauDM Avatar

Sure, why not !!!! 🙂 one of the best days is Halloween when most of my friends turn to me to do their faces 🙂 However I don’t want to use my make up stuff on others

nicci Avatar

I don’t think I ever have and not sure if I would feel comfortable! Although, I do sometimes put chapstick on my boyfriend’s lips 🙂 I try to smother on moisturizer but he hates that stuff.

Paige Avatar

Yep. I used to want to be a makeup artist so I would have my friends over for portfolio photoshoots and I’d do about 6 faces but it always took me about 45 mins per face. Before that I used to do makeup for all the girls in my chorus class when we had nothing to do.

Andrea Avatar

Not at all! I think I have too many bad habit from just doing makeup on myself, because I tend to be very picky. When I try to work on others I get self conscious about whether or not I’m all in their space or sometimes people request things of me I’m not comfortable doing (like using colours I think are just horrid, but I wouldn’t want to insult anyone by saying so).

Az Avatar

My friends who just do everyday makeup say it’s nice, and ask me to help when they want sth special. But my hands always feel weird, as if I’m using my left hand. And even though I know what will look good on them, I can’t do it as good as I want/I do for myself.

Christina Fotos Avatar

Ohh yes, I love it! I do make-up and hair, for weddings, partys ect. to earn some extra money while i’m studying. I really like it, it’s like painting on a new canvas every time. I just started a blog, to give advise/reviews/tutorials about hair and make-up/beauty (a little like your site) but in danish, since we don’t have make-up gurus or major make-up sites – or maybe me do, but I haven’t come across any. :/

Anyway, love your site! I always check your reviews/photos/swatches before buying stuff off the internet, if I can’t see it in person. 🙂

Jane Avatar

No..I don’t like doing other people’s makeup at all. =x It is just really difficult when their features are very different from yours. I am not talented enough to know how to make makeup look good on others. Plus it is really weird applying makeup from another angle…I can’t get lines straight on others or even apply mascara on them properly. lol

Kelly Avatar

I love it! I see people everyday that I think “Wow, they have awesome features. I would love to do their makeup. I bet they would look amazing with a bright smoky eye.”

Traci Avatar

I do other people all the time! I’m the “go to” girl at work for cosmetic needs and advice. I’m going to do my friend’s makeup next week for her wedding! Super excited 😀

Trisha Mae! Avatar

Haha I’m deathly shy to do it, even on my friends! But I mean I guess I do anyway but just for fun. It is difficult adjusting to the shape of their eyes & everything however. I get asked so much to do make up & I’ve always declined, but once, for my besty’s 18th bday!

I pray for more confidence in the near future.♥

Aimee Avatar

I love to! I’ve done some theater and wedding makeup and I’ve become the person my friends go to if they need something funky done for a party. 🙂

Proximity Avatar

Yes, I’m comfortable, and I even enjoy it. But I’m not a makeup artist, and what I know best is *my face*. When I do makeup for others, I have to consciously think about how their face is different from mine, and what would look better on then, and what products/techniques/styles/colors would work for their face.

I’m better at makeup for others the better I know them. For example, I can do my best friend’s makeup pretty well, but if I tried to do yours, I might need a false start or two 😉

Rosie Avatar

Not really. I haven’t practiced enough. I’ve done one of my friend’s makeup twice but she flutters her eyes like crazy and it makes me nervous. I’ve done my sister’s makeup a few times and that’s okay and my mom’s. I did my youngest sister’s Halloween makeup and that was more fun. I just need practice to build confidence.

Sara Avatar

I can do it on my mom and close friends, mostly because they don’t mind letting me play and practice and try not to poke their eyes out with eyeliner! One thing I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do on other people is mascara. Scary.

Mirna Avatar

I would say that I am 80% comfortable. The 20% is based on the fact that I haven’t done it too much. It’s the same friend and my mom that I get to do it over and over again on. I would love to do anyones makeup that will let me do it! I can’t wait for my nieces to grow up because they will be my makeup dolls one day. lol.

Akia Avatar

Now, I am… but my I was a nervous wreck the first time I got paid to do someone’s makeup! I still get nervous… I’m doing someone’s makeup for a photo shoot tomorrow and I’m feeling like I want to back out but that will all subside once I’m there and started.

Dini Avatar

I never get the chance (aside from doing my daughter’s makeup for dance recitals). But I think it would be fun – a challenge to really focus on what other people like and what works with their coloring and features. It takes a sharp eye to figure all that out. I admire anyone that can do makeup on others!

Michelle Avatar

Me, too — the only chance I get is doing my daughter’s makeup for her ballet recitals. I am not very good with the eyeliner part! 🙂 I would love to learn more, though!

Faiza Avatar

I love love love applying make up on others! I feel great when I’m done and they look in the mirror and are shocked to see themselves!

Alexis Avatar

Yes – as a matter of fact I will be taking classes from the MAC Pro Store to learn more techniques and hopefully start freelancing.

Ashley Avatar

I’ve only done it once or twice (once that I can for sure remember), and overall I’m okay with doing it! I dislike applying mascara onto other people though.

Alison Avatar

I can make great color and product suggestions, but as for application…not so much. It doesn’t help if the other person is really twitchy, either!

IndoorKitty Avatar

I keep looking for victims!!! But most of my friends are a lot more laid back / makeup free, the closest I get to it is doing their nails in avant-garde colours.

Casey Avatar

I’m not that comfortable with doing other peoples makeup but I’m not bad at it either. I get a bit nervous and worry about messing up or what they’ll think…I guess I worry too much. I had a makeup artist do my makeup one time and it looked so uneven and so awful….the makeup I wore to the photoshoot looked better than what she did. Ever since then I’ve been more confident about doing makeup on others because I no what NOT to do! lol

Holly H. Avatar

I get butterfly’s in my tummy thinking about it!

I’m get a little scared when applying makeup on others BUT it’s mainly concerning the color matching with foundation and concealer. And applying liquid or gel liner. I have days where I do it perfect or crappy (even on myself). But I’m confident in applying e/s, l/s, blush, etc. I do it like a pro!

I only had 2 people who would let me do their makeup (cousin and step sister), but I rarely see them now. So I dont have anyone else. I’ve begged my husband to be my model but he runs when I ask.
I need a makeup buddy! lol

AlyxVeee Avatar

I really love it, and I should because I do it for a living haha. The only thing I hate is curling eyelashes and teaching them if they don’t know how to….(young girls)

abril Avatar

I actually do! I often recieve compliments about my makeup (hahaha) and I love when I do make up on someone and then comes back telling me everyone told her she look gorgeus! So I do really like it! Hahaha

Dani Avatar

No, I wish I was, but I’m not. I have been trying to get better at it though. I didn’t get hired at M.A.C. because of this very thing. The interview went great, she loved my make up, but when it came time to do my demo… 🙁 I have been working on that though. For example, I did my friend’s sister’s make up for her senior prom. It turned out WONDERFUL, the whole face, and she loved it. I think maybe with the interview, it was nerves, more than anything.

Christina Avatar

I’ve only done makeup on my daughter for her dance recital, and she was 4 1/2 at the time. I think I’d be freaking out if I had to…worrying how it would turn out. =(

CAROLINE Avatar

Not at all! I’m always afraid I’ll poke their eye with an eyeliner pencil or something. Conversely, I don’t mind other people doing mine, even if they do accidentally mess up, so long as it’s accidental.

Ceriene Avatar

I love it. Especially my sister’s since she’s got very light brows, and it’s fun to fill them in for her. (What a weird thing to enjoy doing…) I do it for my friends too, on nights when we head out. It’s definitely different from doing up your own face, but it makes you feel great if they like the look you gave them. 🙂

Jennifer D Avatar

Yes, I am comfortable. If you have to take a break for a while as I did during my husbands illness, getting back into the groove can be intimidating. However, after once the foundation is on I am feeling like the old Jennifer again. My best advice is that they are probably more nervous than you are about what is going on…they know you are the professional and there mind is off wondering if the guests are arriving, if the judges will like her, if she will work well with the photographer. She would have chosen you as her makeup artist if she weren’t confident with your work:) Hope that helps anyone that is nervous.
