Bite Beauty Braised Maple Matte Creme Lipstick ($28.00 CDN for 0.15 oz.) is a lightly brightened, medium-dark brick red with warm, orange undertones and a glossy sheen. It had rich, opaque coverage with a light-medium thick consistency that went on smoothly and evenly. The color lasted for seven and a half hours, was hydrating, and left a stain behind. Really, the only downside is the fact that isn’t at all matte. NARS Golshan (P, $25.00) is lighter, less glossy. Make Up For Ever #44 (P, $19.00) is less glossy. NARS Olivia (P, $32.00) is darker. Fyrinnae Winter Romance (P, $7.00) is less pigmented, less glossy. NARS Leslie (P, $32.00) is darker, more muted. Marc Jacobs Beauty Rei of Light (212) (P, $30.00) is less glossy. NARS VIP Red (P, $26.00) is darker, less glossy. Kat Von D Santa Sangre (P, $20.00) is less glossy. Urban Decay Temper (P, $22.00) is lighter, less glossy. Bite Beauty Candied Maple Matte Creme Lipstick ($28.00 CDN for 0.15 oz.) is a brightened, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a natural sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a creamy, glide-on texture that sat well on the lips while keeping them hydrating over the six and a half hours it lasted. NARS Future Red (LE, $26.00) is glossier. Givenchy Carmin Escarpin (306) (P, $36.00) is warmer. Bite Beauty Grandifolia (LE, $28.00) is warmer. NARS Annabella (P, $32.00) is lighter, brighter. NARS Rita (P, $32.00) is darker, more muted, warmer. NARS Carmen (P, $32.00) is lighter, warmer. Estee Lauder Carnal (P, $30.00) is brighter. MAC Barbecue (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer, less glossy. Tom Ford Beauty Diego (LE, $32.00) is lighter, brighter, less glossy. Maybelline Craving Coral (P, $7.99) is lighter, less glossy. Maybelline Craving Coral (P, $7.99) is lighter, less glossy. Chanel Arthur (440) (P, $36.00) is lighter. MAC Steam Heat (LE, $16.00) is darker, more muted. Maybelline Siren in Scarlet (P, $7.99) is less glossy. ColourPop Succulent (P, $6.00) is brighter, less glossy. First 15 dupes listed, see more: See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Bite Beauty Mulled Maple Matte Creme Lipstick ($28.00 CDN for 0.15 oz.) is the same shade as Black Cherry from the U.S.-exclusive Frozen Berries collection. NARS Ingrid (P, $32.00) is darker, cooler. Marc Jacobs Beauty Saboteur (132) (P, $30.00) is lighter. NARS Bette (P, $32.00) is warmer. Bite Beauty Black Cherry (LE, $24.00) is . Bite Beauty #001 (Reformulation) (LE, $36.00) is darker. Bite Beauty #001 (LE, $36.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

FORMULA SUMMARY | Bite Beauty Maple Matte Creme Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.15 oz.) is supposed to leave a “velvet, soft focus finish” with “highly pigmented, moisturizing wearable color” that is also “longwearing.” If you’re not a fan of mattes, don’t fret, these aren’t really matte (and if you’re a fan of matte, you might want to keep looking). There are five shades, and all of them have a satin or glossier finish (two are pretty glossy). The glossier the shade, the more poorly it applied with streaky, uneven coverage that was prone to feathering along the edges of the natural lip, while the more satiny shades were more pigmented with more even application and longer, better wear. On me, I found the formula to be lightly to moderately hydrating with wear ranging between four and seven hours. The formula has a sweet, maple scent with a very subtle, almost sweet taste. These are exclusive to Canada.

P.S. — Big thanks to Julie over at Swatch & Review for helping me buy these! 🙂

I see you’re wearing MUFE’s new foundation on your face! Will you be reviewing it? I’m excited to see what your impressions are because I’m almost out of my current foundation and very interested in MUFE’s new foundation.

These are just lovely – especially Braised Maple! I’m so happy for the Canadian ladies to get their own LE line, since they get excluded from so many products, but I am a little bit jealous!

Tessa Avatar

Ah ha ha. The dupe list for Braised Maple Rasa life a who’s who of my own lipstick collection.

Maybe I don’t need to sell my soul to Canadian slavers for it….? But maple scent…

Katherine T. Avatar

Well, good to know that Mulled Maple is the same as Black Cherry. I was eyeing Braised Maple, but I already have the dupe NARS Golshan, and I’m probably going to get the other dupe NARS VIP Red. Hey, the text says “Braised Maple”, but the caption on the picture says “Warmed Maple”

CeeCee Avatar

Weird question but are these magnetic like the hand cut ones?

I also love your eye look (it works really well with these reds) and I hope it means the Cocoa Mirage quad will be getting a review. I’ve been eyeing it for ages now and this review convinced me that I need Braised Maple so what’s a budget? lol

I really love the first one, but I’m trying to figure out if it’s Braised or Warmed, because there seems to be both names for the same shade? Either way, I will go for a dupe of it since I’m not in Canada, or anywhere close, LoL! It actually reminds me of a more matte, tinge warmer version on MAC VG1?

Carrie Avatar

These are beautiful but the important drawback for me (and maybe other people) is that they’re not matte. That’s what’s really disappointing for me 🙁

Florence Avatar

I am so glad that they aren’t actually matte as my lips can’t handle matte. But it is frustrating that they misnamed them and may end up confusing and disappointing people.

Rachel B Avatar

Is the first photo the Warmed Maple or the Braised Maple? The captions say Warmed Maple but it’s called Braised Maple elsewhere.

Kelly Avatar

The first lipstick is labeled differently in the pictures than the review, just a heads up. Braised Maple/Warmed Maple looks gorgeous on you though, whichever shade it is! 🙂

Sorry I was the 600th or so person who pointed it out! You are very gracious!
By the way, I’ve been a silent member but I read your blog daily and it is my makeup bible!!

These look fantaaaastic on you! Definitely super cool of Bite to do this for Canada. I’m not usually one for lip products, but Bite is really impressing me, so I might try something from them soon! Also, good job fielding all of the braised/warmed questions 😛 You’re always so helpful!

Fiaspice Avatar

Shame they are too dark for my liking because the formula looks great and there was plenty of them at my local Sephora.

Got the opal lipstick instead

Like a few have already said, these all look amazing on you. I surprisingly have not picked up any for myself (just for my US friends!)

Great review as always 🙂
