Sneak Peek: Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks Photos & Swatches
Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a new formula that takes the Revolution formula we’ve become accustomed to and given it more of a matte finish. There will be nine shades available. I don’t have a full press release yet, but according to Wende’s Instagram, it’s a “comfy version of matte” that will release this July 8th. As soon as I have full details, I’ll be sure to post, and reviews to come as I work through testing these 🙂
Omg these look really pretty 🙂
These look awesome. I love Menace, my kind of shade!
Blackmail is sooo pretty…! I’ve been purging my lippies, in order to justify a few new ones, and I think Blackmail may make the Top 10.
Oh wow, Bad Blood and 1993!!! Finally they’re stepping up their game! I wish they made a nude peach/pink matte lipstick though. :C
Is the name “1993” have anything to do with Gerard’s “1995” by chance? It doesn’t really seem like a coincidence ….
I was thinking the same thing! Ohhh the shade of it all… haha
Didn’t Urban Decay start in 1993? That could be the reason for that particular name.
Nope. They were founded in ’96, but that would have been a good guess!
Finally UD is releasing a matte version of that lipstick. Can’t say I’m particularly attracted to any of the colors though.
Ooh After Dark. I really love mattes with microshimmer!
hmm they don’t look very matte at all to me, looks like any of their other lipsticks. guess we’ll see when you review haha
Definitely looks like a stain matte. I like! 🙂
Ooh I’m very interested! They look lovely. I particularly like 1993, Tilt, Bittersweet and Menace
Ooh, I love all of these! 1993 is making me smile. It’s totally a 90s shade. 🙂
I am all about 1993! Can’t wait to be able to check them out in person!
Nice colors, but still prefer the colors in BITE Frozen Berries and Maybelline Mattes more. Also don’t like the wide flat top design, prefer a bullet design, easier to apply
dude no! I love the flat top, the bullet shape lipsticks take forever to apply! 😛
Looking forward to your review of these! They don’t look quite as flat matte as I would personally like but I’m very interested in one or two of them.
I need 1993 and Blackmail!!!
That matte bandwagon. lol. I think it’s funny how many “matte” releases are rather shiny but are banking on the buzzword drawing people in. This one isn’t the worst offender (BITE!!) but I didn’t feel like their original formula was super shiny once it set a bit and this looks like there’s a bit of shine, so I’m not seeing a massive difference? Happy to see more colors though, and Tilt is pretty. I think 1993 is nice too. It’s warm for me, but I like that there are warmer 90s lips options for others available. 🙂
I have tried them out at the UD conference in London and they’re super pigment rich, buttery and leave a stain so they’re pretty long wear. Yes they’re not a dry matte as they have a super minimal satin sheen on first application, but it soon disappears leaving a matte finish.
Personally I’m not a matte lipstick fan as the mattes tend to look cracked on lips and enhances dehydration lines, but these were unlike any other matte lipsticks ive tried.
They’re unlike any other mattes you’ve tried because they are clearly not matte. I think UD is confused about what Matte means. A lot of the shades look great and I’m sure a lot of people want them, especially people who don’t like the way mattes feel or look, because again, these are not matte.
The reds don’t look too bad, so they may dry down to an actual matte finish, but yeah…the rest definitely don’t look matte to my eye. Not even in the “modern” matte sense, much less anywhere near the retro true matte.
The entire bottom row looks great!
AHHHHHHHHHH I’m going to need so many of these.
Ooh, very pretty! Tilt looks gorgeous. This seems to be the month of not-really-matte matte lipsticks though, first with Bite and now this.
My thoughts exactly! I don’t think that word means what they think it means! haha 😛
And I don’t hold it against them for most of the colors but I’m a little skeptical about the formula for Blackmail as the coverage doesn’t look quite flawless in the picture to my eye and IME (which is a fair amount, I love colors like this) lipsticks that deep tend to slide around and wear poorly if they aren’t thick and dry enough to really set and stay put. I’d love to see it get an A+ review and just be totally wrong but it seems to happen time and time again across brands.
….is it just me or do they look very dupeable? I’m pretty sure I have these shades – from the drugstore, too – in the matte finish! Also, 1993 seems like a total knockoff of Gerard Cosmetics’ 1994… right from the shade to the name!
Tilt looks just like the NYX matte lip cream shade Ibiza. I just bought it yesterday.
whoops, Gerard’s 1995 not 1994. Someone else might come up with another brownish shade to fill the 1994 void!
1993 does look dupable as of late, but if I’m not mistaken 1995 is more mauve. 1993 looks straight tan/brown.
Since I just purchased the last 5 that complete my collection, I can say that these totally look like wet n wild matte lipstick shades, except wnw has even more and only $2! The wnw wild ones are too dry imo but mixed with their regular 99¢ ones make the perfect creamy matte type lipstick. I may have to do a swatch fest =-D
Bad Blood is calling my name! I’m such a shocker for red lipsticks!
Blackmail and 1993 are exiting
they look really pretty!
1993 tho *heart eyes emoji*
Blackmail is gorgeous! They all look great, to be honest, but I think I have dupes for them. They don’t look terribly matte, but I’m fine with that.
Of the nine shades, I really want five–1993, Tilt, Temper, Bad Blood and Blackmail–and kind of want a sixth one–After Dark. I sure hope I get the Sephora gift card I asked for as a birthday present.
Not gonna lie, I’m excited over them all. I think Bittersweet is that perfect sort of easy to wear pinky-purple shade for people who are afraid of true purple.
Oh, I like them all! I am so happy to see brands making not ultra matte- mattes! I hope these review well. Yeah for Urban Decay for permanent and not uber expensive products!
If I could be, say, 15 years younger…I would definitely grab up Blackmail!!! But at 56, even though people think I’m only late 30’s-40 or at max, very early 40’s, I believe this would still possibly look too harsh on me. Although….After Dark and Bittersweet look intriguing! Perhaps 1993, too!
Nancy, I think you should rock it! Age is just a number and you are never too old to have fun with makeup 🙂
Thank you! I actually used to have that older Revlon matte lipstick in the shade Vixen, very similar, my kids used to nearly die of embarrassment when I rocked my goth lip!
Embarrassing the kids is a bonus, IMHO. 😉
It is! LoL!
Do it! I’m in my 40s and consistently wear black/blue/green lips (hell, my hair is steel blue right now). I fully plan on doing this til I crumble to dust. I’m not sure if I can justify getting Blackmail myself because I have a lot of similar colors, but I think 1993 might be calling my name because ~nostalgia~.
These look flubbing amazing. Bad Blood and After Dark are on the wishlist!
Hmm.. I generally make the revolution lipsticks a bit matte by using sparingly and blotting. That’s good enough for me so I wonder how these matte shades will differ.
very pretty but they don’t look very matte to me :\ the colors aren’t anything special, though blackmail is *_* gorgeous. i’m surprised at how much i like 1993 too but i don’t think i’ll be getting anything.
1993 looks like a pale Marsala. I am still bummed about not buying the Sephora version of these during the Rouge pre-sale. I had no idea Rougies would buy them all. Thought I could wait until the beginning of the year when the 10% off reset.
I can’t wait to see your review of these. I love the color of Blackmail but it looks kinda messy. I *need* a lipstick called Bad Blood though, and 1993 looks like it’d be flattering on me too!
None of these look matte in the photos. 😛 I do really like the colors of 1993 and Blackmail, though.
Uh oh – Temper and Bad Blood may have to be mine
What?? No MLBB/pinky nude color? I guess I’ll have to skip these!
Very pretty colours for summer. I really like Bad Blood.
Ooh look like there are a few similar shades to the Melted line! Menace looks amazing!
So excited! I love both the regular Revolution and Sheer Revolution lipsticks. Yay! 🙂
I love the look of Menace and Bad Blood, Looking forward to seeing how they do once you test/review them!
Ok…they don’t look fully matte, but they do look more matte than the Bite ones, which don’t look matte at all. I like the colours too, although I wish there were more.
I really like the regular Revolution lipsticks so I think I’ll like these…especially 1993, Stark Naked, Bittersweet and Blackmail. I really want to see if Bittersweet is anything like NARS Dominique…because it will be a lot less expensive and a lot easier to get my hands on the UD!
Tilt & Temper look really pretty and easy to wear too…might be hard to resist those.
Quite intrigued by Tilt and after dark. Can’t wait to check them out.
Packaging looks like last year’s Pulp Fiction Mrs. Mia Wallace.
After Dark looks like something I’d dream about. <3
I love “Bad Blood,” but that is my absolute least favorite song on the Taylor Swift CD, so I may have to weigh it against the cost of having that song getting stuck in my head every time I pick it up…
I think I need 1993 and After Dark, and possibly Bad Blood depending on how it swatches on me.
They look beautiful but…they’re not very matte!
Blackmail for sure looks amazing!
1993!!!! <3 <3
1993, Bittersweet, After Dark and Blackmail are on my list so far
1993, Stark Naked and Blackmail are beautiful! looking forward to the reviews. Fingers crossed they perform well
AHHHH!!! I want them all!!! 1993, Stark Naked and Bad Blood shall be mine! I don’t care how long lasting it may be!!! Thank you so much for the sneak peek!!
Hmm…they could be more matte. But if they perform as well on me as the normal line does, I might pick up one or two if I like the shade. I’m a pretty big fan of their lipsticks. Still like the feel of the dagger line a bit better.
Oddly, I get on pretty well with matte products, so I’d probably have been even happier if they were closer to a “true” matte. But I’m more interested by this variation than I was with the sheers.
Bittersweet looks so pretty, i love violet lip products <3 and Menace is pretty too.
And i think Stark Naked seems a little similar to melted nude form Too faced, we will see 🙂
Wow, seems like the Matte lip look is trending this year. I had no idea UD was coming out with this new line.
Tilt looks like my kind of color. 🙂 Menace, Bittersweet, and After Dark look like some good, bold shades too.
Menace,After Dark, and Blackmail look really pretty but I really wish it was a dryer matte formula. I only do well with the Mac type matte lipsticks otherwise I get horrible feathering no matter if I use liner or primer.
Totally can’t wait! These are the best colours I’ve seen in ages, plus I know they will be awesome quality unlike junk drugstore lipsticks!
