I love Smashbox eye shadows (Posh looks so pretty) but I couldn’t justify purchasing this for the 9 eye shadows only since I know that I will not use the brow or contour powders.
So, I instead purchased the Master Class III palette which has a whopping 32 shadows! I had passed on it when it first came out because it seemed so overwhelming, but I cannot pass on two Smashbox palettes in a row. Sigh.
When I saw this, I have to admire Smashbox for taking such a big risk. At $65 , just about everything in this palette has to perform decently, or it’s not worth buying. I mean if the shadows were duds, it’s hard to justify buying just for the contours and vice versa. But from looking at the swatches, it looks like Smashbox has for the most part, pulled it off. I see a couple of contour shades that look kind of dark, but they can probably be sheered out and used as shadows. And the shadows look very nice, a couple look drier but fixable with primer. Curious what the review will say….
I can’t wait to read your review for this, Christine. It’s either going to be a total must have for me, or else a very easy “pass”. Weird with things like this, how it can go either way very easily.
wow, the swatches look fantastic
I don’t know what it is about this palette, but it just doesn’t do anything for me at all. It appears to be geared towards just lighter/fairer people it would seem. Easy pass.
I think I have to pass on this… I already have the sculpting trio, which includes everything except Glow, I wouldn’t wear half the eyeshadows, and there’s no way I’d get any use from the brow powders.
Can they just release the eyeshadow on its own and knock the price in ~half and let me buy that? I don’t use brow powders, and those contour shades are useless for me.
Oh my, another one that I am going to have to buy to travel with!
I absolutely LOVE their Brow Tech and usually use Blonde or Taupe, but it looks like the Soft Brown will work as well and the Taupe is included as well. I think I purchased 8 or 10 MAC singles to try to simulate them so I could put them in a palette with a contour and blush but none really matched enough for my preference. In the summer I use Maybelline’s clear mascara instead since the wax tends to get soft and melt.
Wow this has pretty much everything and the swatches don’t look too bad either. I’m curious to hear what you think about it
Looks like a really nice all in one/travel palette. Some of the textures looked a bit iffy but really nice color choices with a lot of multi use shades.
Is that– is that a matte highlighter that I see? 😮
I would get it if it gets a decent review from you Christine! so much time and space saved for packing!
Hmm – not a fan of all in one palettes – there will be colours that everyone will not use. Besides – all those neutrals? Some of them, I could tell from the swatches, are not really great. I await t the review.
I like the idea here to include the brow products. But, I can see why no one has done it prior. I was interested in this before seeing the swatches. Right of the bat, the brow powders are too light. I don’t really care for the bronzer either. The Shadows are rather dupable for me. The one reason I was attracted to this was the all-in one concept. But, I think in order to make this palette work, Smashbox would have to make a “light”, “Med”, and “dark” option in the least.
Smashbox has included Taupe/Brunette Brow Tech in a few of their palettes. So at least they have done it before with multiple shades.
I agree with you 110% that Smashbox ought have made this palette with at least 3 options: Light, Medium, Dark. My hair and brows are very dark brown, so this wouldn’t work for me. And the contour powder and highlights appear quite light, the matte highlight looks too yellowish, even for me.
However, there are those of us who are pale with dark hair & eyes, as well as those with deeper complexions with light hair… As for the bronzer & contour, based on the trio palette I have, it can work on all but the deepest skintones. They should have at least did one dark & light brow powder to suit each end of the spectrum, or be mixed together.
Yes, at the very least a brunette brow powder! It would have also been nice if one of the 2 highlight powders had more depth or peachy-golden tones.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
I’m not really a Smashbox fan at all. Some of the swatches look better than the brand usually presents others look near what I expect from the brand. Look forward to seeing and reading about how they wear.
When I was enraptured with Sephora, I would be there for two hours. But I end up not getting anything. Too much selection and couldn’t decide. That is how I feel about all these contour palettes coming out in the market. End up not getting any set.
For some reason I cringed at the matte highlight swatch, it looked terribly yellow, and patchy
I really love that Posh shadow and the contour looks like it might work for me but…
It feels like they’ve tried to out-do their competition and, in doing so, they’ve created a collection that doesn’t appear to mesh very well. That bronzer definitely doesn’t look universally appealing and the brow powders… they’ve excluded SO many people with those choices. Perhaps that’s why they’ve included Sumatra and Blackout (still, nothing for us intense red-heads). Very curious to hear your thoughts on this, Christine.
The Rapture Ultimate Beauty palette and the Mega palette each have 6 shades of brow tech, including an Auburn. The Photo Op Mega palette (which has almost all of the Photo Op trios) has 4 shades of brow tech, including an Auburn. Sumatra definitely would work for a brunette but I don’t think one as dark as Christine’s hair is (for example.)
I suspect that either space was a concern, or maybe their marketing team decided the other shades just don’t sell well enough. Or, my other thought is that many of us have lighter hair in the summer months opposed to the winter months. Hard to say…
Wow… I didn’t even know about those two palettes. The Rapture palette is a little overwhelming, something perfect for makeup artists. I think I’ll make a trip to Sephora soon and look into just getting a brow product. Maybe one by Anastasia.
Yes, I have been a Smashbox collector for a while. Fell in love with their primer 15 years ago and love their creme liner and shadow liners.
I went and looked and actually 5 of the shadows are repeats from the Photo Op palette, I have Glow and tons of the brow products. Now I have decided to pass as this has too many repeats for me for the cost..
Although I really love platinum and posh! Best wishes on finding a great brow product, you have beautiful red hair!
Believe it or not, I just discovered how amazing the Smashbox primer is a few months ago! I received a deluxe sample from Sephora last year around the holidays and I’d just thrown it in a drawer. I came across it when I was moving things around and… I could kick myself for not trying it sooner! It works so well for me, even better than primers that are much more expensive.
And… thank you for the compliment. =)
WANT! Major want, even.
I bought this palette and love it. It’s perfect for my everyday subtle work look. I have yet to test this out for a night out (and really see the staying power of the shadows). But I’m a nc30 in mac and the contour and highlight powders show up on me. In fact, I have to be careful with that contour. I don’t want to look like Maleficent! Even with my dark brows, I can still use the brow powders to fill in sparse areas.
This is the first Smashbox palette in a long time that caught my attention – I hope it reviews well! The price seems a bit much for what it is, but if it reviews well I would seriously consider it (especially at a sale price!). Thanks for showing us this!
I think Sephora introduced a Kevin Aucoin palette when the whole contouring craze started this winter that carries eyeshadows and brow colors as well as his better known sculpting and highlighting powders. I already use MAC Sculpt for contouring, and have plenty of light powders and a few brow pencils that work well for me, so I decided not to invest in a whole contouring palette. But if I were going to, I think the Kevin Aucoin or Kat Von D palettes at Sephora are so well reviewed, that I would probably try one of those first!
This could be a good palette for travels, I suppose.
I don’t think the brow products would suit me, they are on the light side. I do think the contouring colour would be a good one, I hardly use bronzers, and some of the eyeshadows looked a bit on the dry side.
It will be really interesting to see the reviews.
Not really my thing, but I can see where it would be handy for a lot of people. Most of the swatches look good, but that Aubergine eyeshadow is awful. Posh is lovely.
Yeah this is pretty, but I have very fair warm skin so unless they have different shades its a bit much! Plus I have too many eye palettes that I just don’t use! Lorac pro, loran pro 2, Stilla the souls, Paulas choice mattes, just to start with :O
I dunno…..I just bought a blush palette from Smashbox about a month ago & am not at all impressed with it. Really disappointing because I was very excited after swatching it in-store. Very pigmented, gorgeous shades. But on the face, it really blows goats. I have a feeling I’d end up disappointed by this one too.
