Rant & Rave: Becca
Tell us what you love and hate about...
Becca
When they get a formula right, they do an amazing job, but sometimes they seem like they’re replicating their own success (and fail) or copying a trend (and don’t quite nail it). I also think that their line has some holes in it/could be fleshed out more.

They used to have some nice, non-shimmery glosses… wish they’d bring those back.
Yeah,I agree with Christine. Definitely not living up to their potential. I would love to see thieir talent for cream and liquid luminizers traspose to foundations. I feel like a lot of their shimmer souffles take on close to the same look. Its a nice product, but why have more than 1 or 2 shades?.i wish their powder highlighters were less powdery. :)But,all-in-all, their highlighers are amazing across the board imo.
I am OBSESSED with their highlighters…that applies to all forms! (Liquid, cream, powder) And their Ever Matte Primer (pause)……….It is the only primer that keeps my oily skin in check! I don’t have to use MoM anymore!
I have also sampled their Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation and the Luminous Skin in the same shade. The matte foundation was ashy, while the luminous was a dead on match for the my skin. It was very odd. And while I’m an oily girl, I may have to get the Luminous foundation. Love the coverage!
Yes the primer is amazing for my oily skin too! The only one that’s ever really worked for me
At their pricepoint, they should find an alternative to petroleum byproducts. With so many lower-end DSbrands eliminating them (even WnW), I don’t see why a $40 highlighter should contain mineral oil. Even if the price went up slightly, I’d be willing to pay it, as there are some otherwise beautiful products in the line.
Hmm good point.
Xamyx, why do you not like mineral oil? My favourite skincare brand, Paula’s Choice, supports its use, but you are quite the knowledgeable person so I’d enjoy learning your reasoning. Thanks!
All levels of grades exist for such ingredients and Becca uses the highest quality cosmetic grade. It is not their main ingredient. People buy them everyday and don’t break out because they’re excellent. Becca is quite skin friendly and savvy.
I just immediately think ‘highlighters’ when I see this brand’s name.
ditto
Rant: Oh, probably the price! LOL. I do wish they would expand the line.
Rave: Love that the highlighters come in different shades and undertones to suit a range of skin tones! I also love the packaging – it’s sleek and pretty, but sturdy.
I think they are a bit over priced. Especially for the poured highlighters
I love their foundation (the color lineup), but they always end up really splotchy because I don’t think they’re finely milled enough. The poreless primer I keep hearing is the bomb, but the one time I used it, my makeup slid off and collected in my fine lines. I’m super oily, so I never use highlighters, so I suppose I can’t really comment on what they’re known for.
I used to buy from the brand way back, great products. Loved their loose powder.
Now, well the under eye brightener is amazing!!! But no good for anyone with Olive skin or darker.
Love the blush in Flowerchild, the others quite boring.
The lip primer is too drying,
They just seem to push the highlighters changing formulas liquid, then powder, then a different version of liquid.
their products look beautiful…. but I can’t see myself shelling out $38 for one highlighter… idk.
I love the highlighters. I wish all of the liquid ones came in smaller/ travel sized versions. I think Becca has a pretty comprehensive range of foundations & shades available.
I’d like to see a highlighter palette 🙂
Sephora has the liquid form in Moonstone and Opal in smaller (0.67 oz) tubes. You may still be able to find them in the “Aisle of Doom” on the way to the checkout, or online. You can also get them online at Ulta (though I haven’t been in store for a while so I don’t know if they’re online only).
Yes I know they have some minis, I just wish all the colours were available! I own a regular sized huge one, I don’t know how I’ll ever finish it! And I’m not near an Ulta, but thank you! 🙂
I think their highlighters are overrated (powders are okay, liquids are imo mediocre at best).
Their blushes are great! Sadly, I don’t hear a lot of people talking about them.
I own a blush (Damselfly) and I love it!
Good point. I have the mineral blush in sweet pea. Application is a dream and the shimmer balance is perfect for my tastes.
Rave – Their blushes and highlighters are amazing.
Rant – Eyeshadow quads not so amazing. I believe that they may have been discontinued.
Rave – I’ve only tried their liquid highlighters, and totally love them, definitely one of the best on the market, if not the best, if you are looking for a very natural, subtle glow and shimmer. They have a big selection of shades for their foundation
Rant – I haven’t tried much else because their products are so pricey.
Rave: Love their liquid highlighter (it’s the only product from them I own, lol!), gives a fantastic look and is so dramatic, but hey, why not? Also love how much product you get in a container, even if it is expensive.
Rant: Dude. You can’t make a highlighter that intense and then make the pump dispense a huge amount. I can highlight my cheekbones, nose, a bit on the forehead, cupid’s bow, and even some on the chin, and STILL have product left, and I’m far from light-handed with it. I do have kind of a small face, but still.
I’ve never tried anything by Becca largely because the Sephora near me only has a limited selection of products and only from time to time (like, when there was some highlighter “highlight” in the store, they had some Becca highlighters on the display). So it would be a combination of hard to get and the high price (if I’m paying premium prices, I want to see everything they’ve got to offer, rather than a limited selection).
Their products have never really appealed to me. I feel like they’re coasting on the success of their highlighter and as a result are neglecting the rest of their line. I’ve been curious about the liquid highlighter but they give you waaaaay too much product. There’s no way I could ever use up that much product. I don’t want to pay close to $40 for a ton of highlighter that will just rot before I can use it all.
I don’t think I’ve ever used them, though I admire some of their highlighters and blushes from afar. They are a bit pricey.
Opal highlighter making my summer. That being said, I don’t think the brand has an identify beyond that or has found itself.
Spent last night staring at the swatches but mercifully only persuaded myself to get samples instead of buying the whole lot.
I’ve never been inclined to try anything from this brand. The pricepoint is quite high but the products aren’t so popularly well-reviewed that I felt I had to try it. The closest came the highlighters, but they had some irritating ingredients (liquid) and I don’t use powder or cream highlight.
I haven’t tried tons from the brand, just the highlighters in pressed form (moonstone and opal) and those are great. I recently though tried one of their blushes in the shade flowerchild and could not be more impressed with it. I have a hard time getting any blush to stay on my cheeks but this one wore for 12 hours with very minimal fading. It doesn’t even claim to be long wearing, I was very impressed. As for rants, I haven’t tried anything I didn’t like so I can’t comment from experience, but I haven’t been very impressed with some of the swatches of other things I’ve tried at my very small sephora.
Love: the cream blush is the best i have ever used….love the eye and beach tints… Love shimmering Skin Perfector and the liquid foundation….
My rave is also a rant, Becca’s Luminous Skin Colour Foundation in cashmere was my HG foundation as I have very dry skin but love a natural glowy look. It was discontinued ! 🙁
If you look, Becca has been sold for awhile and not only on Sephora. They offer a wide range of foundations, powders, primers, lip & cheek products, varies eye color and eye products, etc. Mostly recognized at first for their Beach Tints, which are my favorite cream blush! I love their eye tints as well! Then Lisa Eldridge was spotted using their Shinnering Skin Perfector in Pearl, and that started a craze! It brought Sephora around to carry Becca again, adding all highlighters, recently crappy poured ones, but their way of trying to reintroduce how the brand began was quite smart I thought; the beach soufflés! Those were a hit, it reacquainted people with the Beach Tints AND Shimmering Skin Perfectors, bringing back an awake audience expecting more! But not many realized the other goodies hiding… Sephora stopped a few good things, kept bringing highlighting variables, and then Becca failed with their lip product of shimmer beach soufflés whatevers.. Great bronzing/highlight gel cream palette, and a powder one.. The ombré eyeshadows were brought back.. Loved those. I guess I don’t like that the entire line isn’t available in any one particular place & that TV sellers have it on their show with specials also unavailable unless you shop there, which I don’t. I love their matte lippies, eyeshadows & shimmers, highlighters, lingerie foundation, I forget the exact name but it’s standing over there., *pointing* and their blushes, blotting powder, glosses, etc. are all fine by me! Prices could be better but at least they use the highest cosmetic grade ingredients in tandem with other greats that protect skin from harm and make the products really wearable. More money went into developing than advertising, I’m thinking. 🙂
