Valentine's Day Makeup: Soft Peach & Plum

Valentine’s Day Makeup: Soft Peach & Plum

I thought I’d do a look using NARS Kuala Lumpur, a new eyeshadow duo for spring–review coming soon–which went okay. I had to use this duo wet in order to get the intensity I wanted. The cheeks and lips are still goin’ strong with MAC Spring Colour Forecast, so never fear!

Oh, man, I really wanted to add more to the crease.  I wanted some more depth, more darkness… just MORE!  But I held myself back.  I told myself, “Go softer, let’s try it!”

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), NARS Kuala Lumpur Eyeshadow Duo (soft melon/plum burgundy), NARS Mediteranee Eyeshadow Duo (soft gold), Urban Decay 1999 24/7 Liner (burgundy), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
  • Face: Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer (Medium)
  • Cheeks: MAC Vintage Grape Blush Ombre (dirty plum)
  • Lips: MAC Radicchio Lipstick (pinky plum), MAC Almondine Lipglass (frosty white-gold) (sheer gold)
  • Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes:  Try MAC Motif, MAC Cranberry, MAC Ricepaper

For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using a dampened 239, apply Kuala Lumpur eyeshadow (the peach side) all over the lid. Next, apply Kuala Lumpur eyeshadow (the plum side) on the outer third of the eyelid and lightly blend into the outer crease. Lightly tap and brush Kuala Lumpur eyeshadow (the peach side) directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Meditaranee eyeshadow (the golden side) as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying 1999 eyeliner on the lower lash line and sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Vintage Grape blush ombre to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Radicchio lipstick first, and then layer Almondine lipglass for a complementing lip.

Oooh, I like this take on Valentine’s Day makeup! I just swatched Kuala Lumpur and was really lemming it but I’m afraid it’s going to be too light/sheer for me now. I’m so used to seeing strong creases on you that this look really surprised me lol. Super pretty and sweet though.

I actually LOVE Vibrant Grape blush on you! Especially with this lip combo. Gorgeous! 😀

Hi Christine, as soon as I saw the picture of your eyes, I immediately thought Oh my gosh that is Kuala Lumpur……and it WAS! First of all it is stunning on you, and secondly I just wanted to share that my sister and I just recently had our first NARS haul after much research on your site and in sephora and the stores. We got a gift with purchase at Nordstrom’s (orgasm/albatross) and had recently bought Laguna. On Sat. we both had our makeup done and ended up buying Kuala Lumpur after it was put on my eyes! We also got Bellissima e/s duo, Indian Summer e/s duo and Ophelia! My sister and I are die hard MAC fans, but we have loved trying some nars…especially Laguna, orgasm and albatross. 🙂

love! the look christine!
I know how you feel about adding more to the crease, but I guess you did well.
the soft look is supersweet for valentines day!

Very nice Christine! Although it’s not the same, I may try this look using Melon and Burgundy pigments:) Vintage Grape is quite fetching on you as well.

Tami Avatar

Vintage Grape was the only blush I purchased from the new collection. The color initially frightened me because I though it would look too bold. But it was love after the MUA applied it on my cheeks with the 188. Since I don’t own that brush, I used a fan brush and got the same results:)

Oh no Christine, don’t do this to me! I checked out Kuala Lumpur the other day and concluded that I didn’t need it, but now seeing this look you’ve done, I might just have to go and get it! All your fault! 😉 I’m already getting Radicchio and a bunch of other lipsticks and lipglasses from the Spring Colour Forecast collection as it is!

Thanks, I’ve seen the review and decided I won’t get it after all. I don’t have Cranberry, but have Fresh Cut (from the Fresh Cut palette) and Star Violet that are pretty close I think, and I do have Melon pigment. So I won’t get it after all. 🙂 Really looking forward to the Orgasm illuminator though.

I love everything about this look, it is subtle, colors are great !! Simply a very beautiful look I could wear any day ! I especially love the lip combo, made me want that lipstick and lipglass !!

hi christine
v pretty look! i like the balance you reached with the crease colour, personally. also nice to see the purple ombre blush used in a look and doesn’t look like a bruise at all! (adding it to the list…LOL)

Wow! Really interesting how Vintage Grape turned out on the cheeks. It’s got more depth than your average raspberry/plum blush but it still doesn’t look quite purple either. I love that lip combination, too. I don’t need Almondine at all but it keeps tempting me, it’s just so durn pretty. The eyes are lovely…though I think I could pull it off pretty well with Queen and Muchness from the UD palette with probably less effort 🙂

PLUMTASTIC! LOVE LOVE LOVE. I’m really surprised you weren’t thrilled by Kuala Lumpur because the colors look amazing on you. I guess having to apply it wet to even get minimal payoff can be a time suck. But I love the pairing with the 1999 liner and the MAC blush!

Christine Avatar

I just don’t think I should have to work for it, LOL! It’s not fun when you have to clean up fall out, look for ways to make it *work*, you know? But I think it’s probably obvious by now that I. HATE. FALLOUT. Particularly with high-end cosmetics.

Hey christine

Wow this is absolutely beautiful and my favorite look you have done for a long time. Personaly im into more dark, dramatic looks (which you rarely do) but I actualy might do somthing similar to this with products I have. And I was woundering if im too late to go pick up some blush ombres… Do you think there all sold out?

Penny Avatar

This is absolutely beautiful. I’m a little darker than you are (NC37) and I was terrified of Vintage Grape- even (or maybe especially!) after seeing swatches, but it looks so lovely and soft on you. Another thing to add to my list when I go check this collection out in person.

You are like, the ultimate lemming creator. 🙂

P.S.- That lip combo is amazing!

Christine Avatar

LOL, I try to find a way to make things work. I like that the blush ombres can be used lightly OR intensely – you don’t have to work hard to get it to be intense (just pick up more on the brush), but for a light look, just a single tap in the pan is enough.

I really like this softer look on you. Thanks for mentioning some alternatives with better payoff.

Question — I notice you pretty much always line your lower lid but only line the upper lid some of the time. I’m just the opposite as I think it opens my small eyes more. What is the reason behind your preference?

Christine Avatar

Thanks, Steph!

I seem to be easily irritated or allergic to wearing liquid liner on the upper lash line. My eyes tend to swell up whenever I use it. (And yes, I do it sometimes just because it’s so requested, and then my lids are swollen for a day or two afterward.)

Steph Avatar

This is my first time posting!

You look gorgeous as always Christine. Your reviews and photos really inspired me to pick up a lot of pieces from the MAC Spring
Forecast collection.

Do you think the MAC Radiccio lipstick is worth it and flattering for an NC15 skintone? It is not too purpley or dark, is it?

Thanks!

Thank you so much for putting Kuala Lumpur on the map! Hi, I am from Kuala Lumpur and if I can buy Nars, Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia would be my first two picks!

Alexis Avatar

Wow, this is beautiful! I could never get Kuala Lumpur to look like this on me, so I returned it. I guess I should’ve tried it wet to get the right pigmentation :).
