Easily Essence of Beauty’s vitamin E wedges. I’ve tried brushes and fingers and other sponges — there is no point. Nothing is more flawless and hygienic.
I haven’t tried the “real” Beauty Blender, but I read a review on the Soho Sleeping Beauty trio on Musings of a Muse, and she said they were comparable, so I took a chance and tried them. I really like them, and they’re much better than any of the “knock-offs” I’ve tried. I plan to eventually try the real one, but these are fine for now, and I can’t bring myself to spend $20 on one sponge, LOL!
I used the Beautyblender before I tried the Real Techniques sponge. They’re almost alike but BB is more squishy compared to RT’s sponge. On the other hand I do like how RT’s sponge has a cut. It makes it more easy to apply.
Overall I think they’re both great sponges but I prefer RT’s more since it’s easier to work with. Plus it’s budget friendly! Hooray! 🙂
I also love the Real Techniques sponge because of the shape. The price isn’t bad, either!

Until a few months ago, I would have said Beauty Blender but Shopper’s Drug Mart (Canadian drugstore chain) has their own version in their QUO house brand – in a brilliant purple – that is every bit as good and only costs 5 bucks (compared with $26 for the real Beauty Blender). Because I own the original, I have been able to compare them and there is NO difference (except for the colour and slight difference in shape). For the price of 1 BB, I can buy 5 of these QUO sponges (or on and then put the 20 bucks I save toward something else). Also, Shoppers has a really wonderful “loyalty points” program.
I’ve seen the QUO brand sponges somewhere on line (I think Amazon…?), and *almost* took a chance! Now, I want to try and find them again. I’ve waffled on getting the “real deal”, but always found something else to spend the difference on. I’ve tried a few knockoffs, but didn’t care for any of them, until Musings of a Muse did a review on the Soho sponges, and said those were comparable. I’m always on the lookout for opinions from those that have used both the BB & a knockoff, and can provide a comparison.
I didn’t realize QUO wasba Canadian brand, but that explains why I’ve never seen it here!
I’m totally going to go out to Shoppers this weekend to hunt down the Quo sponge. I love my beauty Blender for my concealer and I love the idea of the cheaper Quo dupe!
I’ve only ever used the real Techniques one coz I wanted to try one but I didn’t like the price of the beauty blender
I love the real techniques sponge! It blends so well and is only 5.99!
Meh on sponges. I’ve used Beauty Blender (I got several free from a retailer), the Stila one, the Sephora one, and a drugstore one. I just prefer using my fingers and or a brush to apply foundation. Sometimes I’ll use a sponge for final touch-up or blending. Right now the one in my vanity is the Beauty Blender one. I truly don’t get the hype behind sponges. I don’t think the finish is better than other application methods and I find them to be more work with respect to cleaning versus a brush.
Same here, I’ve only tried the Beauty Blender and like it. The only other one was a drugstore knock-off and it was horrible.
I haven’t tried the original beauty blender, though I’ve tried several knockoffs. I like Sephora’s the best. Real Technique’s Miracle Complexion Sponge is the best drug store brand I’ve used.
Still going strong with the Beauty Blender
The original Beauty Blender is the only one I’ve used. I find that I rarely use it, and it has started leaving tiny pink “crumbs” on my face, so that’s no good. I wonder if this has happened to anyone else.
I think I’d like the new(er) mini’s though for around the eyes & nose. Is anyone making a similar sponge? I think the BB is way overpriced, and I’d also like to try the sponges with a flat edge, so I look forward to seeing others comments. 🙂
Beauty Blender.
Hands down the Beauty Blender. I haven’t tried many other sponges but I’ve never really felt the need to. It works great and holds up well. I recommend it to everyone
I don’t like the Beauty blender I think it’s tooooo soft and squishy. I like the Real Techniques sponge because the shape is better and it’s more dense but still soft and not like hitting your face with a brick building ha ha
I don’t like any. I find brushes ate much quicker and easier to use.
The OG beautyblender, i tried the real techniques version but it’s a terrible knockoff
I’ve never tried Beauty Blender so I guess I don’t know what I’m missing, but I really like the RT Miracle Complexion sponge. I like the shape because I can use it for liquid foundation, concealer, and even setting my undereye area with powder.
I use sponges for powder foundation only. Ulta wedges are a nice size and washable.

I still haven’t tried the BeautyBlender but I LOVE the Laura Mercier sponges. They’re fairly inexpensive (4pk for $15) and they’re incredibly smooth. Plus, at that price, I don’t mind tossing them once they’ve been washed a few times. They hold up perfectly and stay firm.
I like the Beauty Blender followed by the Real Techniques sponge. BB works great for applying powders too though 🙂
I have used a few brands of sponges, the best being the Beauty Blender and Real Techniques. The Beauty Blender may give a slightly better result, however, I still prefer the Real Techniques sponge. The BB lasts no where near as long as the RT sponge, it starts to fall apart after a few months whereas the RT is still as good as the day I got it. The sponges have a very different texture, the BB feels more sponge like. The RT is also cheaper and available in store, being from Australia the only place I can get the BB is online.

yeah beauty blender 4evar! I’ve tried a bunch of dupes but none have come close to the OG 😀
Without a doubt I think the Earth Therapeudics sponge is the best for me. You hear people talk about dupes for the BB all the time but these come so close I cannot tell them apart unless I hold them next to the BB, they are a tad rounder, otherwise, no difference. They are available at Kohls for under $10 for a twin pack, and you can use your coupons. The biggest reason why the cost is such a factor is that I would hang on to my BB way too long but with these I have no problem tossing them when their time is up. Just one less thing to feel guilty about!
I have only tried two other than the foam wedges you get at the drugstore: the Real Techniques sponge, and the Perfectionist sponge from Sephora. I prefer the Real Techniques sponge’s shape and texture.
I know I’m in the minority here, but I never did get on the beauty blender bandwagon. It’s not a bad tool, I personally didn’t find it any better than my big ol’ bag of wedge sponges. Cheap and easy. Disposable, so it feels hygenic.
I just use the Beauty Wedge Applicator Sponges you can buy at any drug store
Ellipse sponge from Make Up For Ever is the best. MAC (pink spong) and Make-Up Studio (Perfect blending sponge) is also good.
I use the Beauty Matters Makeup Blender Sponges and, for less than $15 for FOUR of them, I couldn’t be happier! I heard the Real Techniques sponge is a close dupe for the Beauty Blender so I thought I’d try it… and I hated it! It soaked up so much more of my foundation than the less expensive sponges. The Beauty Matters sponges are far more dense and, though I prefer that, many really dislike that about them. One reviewer said she felt like she was punching herself in the face! LOL I’ve been using the same one for at least nine months now and it’s still intact and applying foundation as flawlessly as the first time I used it.
Beautyblender is the only one I have used for years now. Wouldn’t downgrade as I get months of usage out of one BB so it pays for itself
Beauty Blender is good, but I really like Dior Star makeup sponge. It is much denser so doesn’t suck up as much foundation into the sponge and the pounce feels springier. It’s quite a different feel, took me a few uses to get onto it, but I do prefer it. It holds up to regular wear far better.
Have you tried the ones from KGD? I like them but have not tried Dior’s so I’m curious how they compare!
Beauty Blender.
The Beautyblender is my favorite.
I’ve been a sponge girl forever! While I love & appreciate my Beauty Blender, I also like KGD’s & the plain old latex free wedges you can get in bulk at the drugstore! I prefer to wet mine, BB or whatever I use, with KGD Spa water as opposed to regular water, as it lends a more cohesive effect with formulations and erases mistakes like a boss! I have not tried the baby Beauty Blenders. Im more of a finger person & I like to use them, sometimes a brush, in smaller areas, plus I think I’d lose them in the toilet or something SO FAST.. I drop things a lot! 😀
Christine, do you regularly do your makeup with the beauty blender? Cuz I need one if you do, you always look flawless! I was under the impression though that you almost always use brushes. When and for what do you use the beauty blender instead of your go-to brushes?

Real Techniques sponge! the cut and shape makes it easier to blend.
