ColourPop Flux Super Shock Shadow
ColourPop Flux Super Shock Shadow

For spring, there are twelve new, limited edition shades of ColourPop Super Shock Shadows ($5.00 for 0.07 oz. each) with most shades in the pastel family (though there a few that aren’t). ColourPop sent ten of the twelve shades with my blush order, which had been delayed longer than their stated turnaround time. I bought the other two shades, along with other new products (blushes, lipsticks, and lip liners) but don’t have those yet! I admit, I was nervous when I saw how pastel these were when I opened the box, because pastels are hard to do in any form. I think these are a bit weaker than their best shades, and they take more effort to blend on the eye. They were performed better than a lot of similarly-colored pastels that I’ve come across, though, which was a surprise, given how finicky pastels can be.

ColourPop Flux Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “light mint green in a matte finish.” It’s a very light, green-tinted white with a matte finish and very subtle warm, yellow undertones. It has a very strong white base and easily looks almost chalky on my skin tone. When I used it on the inner third of my lid paired with bolder shades, it worked, but it’s the kind of shade that can be harder to use just right. The texture was a little drier than other Super Shock Shadows I’ve tried, but the texture is definitely matte. It didn’t apply smoothly and tended look a bit dry on the lid to me. The color didn’t fade or migrate, but it did crease after eight hours. Kat Von D Archangel (LE) is more shimmery, powder. Dior Dulcinee #5 (LE) is more shimmery, darker, powder. MAC Sky Blue (P, $16.00) is bluer, powder. MAC Aqua (P, $16.00) is slightly darker, powder. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop Beauty Call Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “true powder blue in a matte finish.” It’s a light, sky blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a lightly creamy consistency that was blendable overall, but it is harder to use than the majority of the Super Shock range. I found this one to take a little longer to blend out on the lid. It wore well for ten hours without fading or creasing. Make Up For Ever S208 Baby Blue (P, $21.00) is brighter, darker, powder. Wet ‘n’ Wild To Muse and Carouse #3 (LE, $2.29) is darker, powder. Dior Swimming Pool #3 (LE) is powder. Dior Blue Lagoon (374) Eyeshadow #1 (LE) is warmer, powder. bareMinerals Illusion (P) is lighter, warmer. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop Taco Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone aqua in a matte finish.” It’s a muted, light-medium periwinkle blue with a mostly matte finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that is better to apply in layers to get a really smooth, even layer of color. This shade blended well and lasted for ten hours without creasing or fading. Make Up For Ever I212 Periwinkle (P, $21.00) is darker, powder. Wet ‘n’ Wild Hard Being the It Girl #2 (LE, $2.29) is darker, powder. Dior Swimming Pool #3 (LE) is more shimmery, powder. Inglot #369 (P, $6.00) is darker, powder. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop Snapdragon Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone sea foam green in a matte finish.” It’s a brightened, seafoam green with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage and applied with fairly even, smooth coverage without having to layer it on. It blended out easily and wore for a full ten hours without creasing or fading. Sephora Collection Green Tea Time (12) (P, $13.00) is more shimmery, darker, powder. Sugarpill Mochi (P, $12.00) is lighter, powder. Inglot #372 (P, $6.00) is darker, powder. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

So lovely. And I was just thinking about baby blue and periwinkle eyeshadows. I don’t understand the name or the descriptions for Taco though. That’s not the color that comes to mind when I think of tacos, nor is that the color I think of when I think of aqua.

Hey!

I stated in the first paragraph that ColourPop included these in my blush order, because it was a few days late (beyond their stated turnaround time), and the top of the post is marked as “press sample.” (They are aware of who I am!) 🙂 The shades that I didn’t receive and ordered last week just shipped out today, so it’s not just you!

Veronica Avatar

Poor mint green never gets a fair shake in eyeshadow. I’ve yet to see a brand do a truly excellent version, especially in a cream version. Snapdragon is just lovely, though. Such a pretty shade.

Jessy Avatar

Still waiting on a company to come up with a perfect shade of mint green. I remember Dustin Hunter making a video about it and feeling the same way, I need a good mint green in my life! Lol! I placed an order for these, even though I usually wait for your reviews, but they just looked so pretty I couldn’t help myself.

Wow, with the exception of Flux, these are great scores, especially for pastel shadows, and pastel BLUES of all colors! I’m VERY impressed, especially since you don’t even use any primers. Plenty of companies can’t even get REGULAR blue shadows right, much less PASTEL blues. And for only $5 each?? I don’t know how ColourPop does it, but they rock!

Jessica Avatar

Thays my favorite eyelook you’ve ever done! Those are my favorite kinds of colors. Like spring time, Monet inspired blue/greens. Very sad the first one is bad, that wouldve been my favorite one 🙁 ill have to get mac’s aqua instead

Megan Avatar

The look you created with these is absolutely stunning! I don’t usually go for blues or pastels but you make them look so insanely gorgeous.

Hannah Avatar

Oh no… I just placed my first Colourpop order a couple of days ago and included Flux. I couldn’t decide between Flux and Beauty Call (I don’t wear color on the eyes often, but wanted one of them for using on the lid with winged liner in a 50s-inspired look), but I should have waited for your reviews! I hope I can make it work for me, but if not, at least it’s just $5.

Paper Doll Avatar

Oh no, Flux is in my shopping cart right now! After hearing about these shadows & seeing some impressive YouTube videos, I have been scouring your archives for days, formulating my first ColourPop order based on a combination of your swatches & Glossovers. Then, while I was mid-order, ColourPop threw a wrench into the works by coming out with this new line of pastels (that you hadn’t received or reviewed yet), so I’ve just been holding off on checking out. I think you just saved me from regretting my purchase! I’m going to hold off on getting the newest products until I hear more about them (but I totally wish I could snag that Esperanza Palette from Kat Von D’s 2014 Spring collection, LOL!)… thank you! 🙂

Cory Avatar

Snap Dragon is soooooo pretty!!!!! Christine, as usual, you made a terrific look with what you had! & thank you, because I probably would have gone for Flux instead of Snap Dragon, & now I know better for the next time I order!

Carrie Avatar

I ordered the blues, the purples and one of the new lip/pencil combos. I figured they’d take a bit more effort since it’s that double whammy of pastels + mattes but I’m pleased that they still seem to work as well as they do!

Christine Avatar

Haha! You are right on the money, Carrie. I think the mattes tend to be a little harder to work with vs. the shimmery shades, and then absolutely, the pastels are another layer of work, though we’re talking 10 minutes to apply shimmers vs. 15 minutes to apply these.

Karen Avatar

Hi Christine, love love the look you created! I just love Kat Von D Archangel, I use it quite often as a colourful inner corner high light. I also just love Colourpop’s eyeshadows so much! I sure hope these pastels become permanent! Not too many companies do pastels well. I just love pastel colours, I’m just always drawn to them any day of the year, especially lavender.

Bethany Avatar

Do you use a primer when using the ColourPop shadows? I ordered some last week and I’m not sure if the Nars one will be the best for it. I’m pretty new to cream shadows like these.

Christine Avatar

No, never. I do not use primer with products when I am testing them for longevity unless it IS a primer! I almost never use primer when I’m posting anything on the blog – and if I do, it will be disclosed as such (super misleading otherwise!). ColourPop lasts so long on me (I’ve gotten 16+ hours of wear, but I don’t normally keep them on that long) that I’ve never tried using them over a primer! NARS should be fine under it, though 🙂

I ordered Hello and Flux from the new collection. I’m hoping that Flux works out for me! I love mint green and having it for spring would be really nice. I’ll be trying everything possible to make it work.

Rachel R. Avatar

Not usually my kind of colors, but these turned out beautifully. I think Flux would work as a browbone highlight, over primer, but it’s not so hot on its own. Snapdragon is one of the better seafoam shadows I’ve seen.

Rachel R. Avatar

I usually use a coordinating light color for the highlighter with my looks, but I am fair enough to get away with it. I can see where it wouldn’t look right with your beautiful golden skin.

Heather F. Avatar

Wow, those are gorgeous. Even with the difficult formula. 🙂 I don’t know that I’d get much use out of them, but Taco and Beauty Call are my favorites.

I usually read the comment section first (why? I don’t know) and all the consternation about “taco” had me itching to type “‘Taco’ isn’t just a tortilla stuffed with happiness! It originally referred to a wad of fabric or paper used in loading a musket!” And then I looked at the color and realized that historical definition *still* had nothing to do with this particular color.

Gosh darnit, I want to use my degree at some point in my life.

Pteetsa Avatar

Pretty pastel eye look! I like Snapdragon, but I just bought the Stila eyeliner in Mint Julep, so how much mint green do I really need? I just received my first Colourpop order – eyeshadows in Bill and Doe A Deer and blushes in Quarters and Clutch. They’re so cool and weird. I like playing with them and smushing my finger into them!

Fran Avatar

I’m especially liking Taco and Snapdragon. I may get Taco even though I already have MUFE I212 — to me they look slightly different, lol! I like Beauty Call, too, just not quite as much — for some reason I prefer true blues or green to blue-greens.

Fran Avatar

You’re sweet, Christine, I will. I don’t buy very much makeup sight unseen online, but I really do want to place an order with Color Pop. My biggest problem is narrowing down my choices — they have so many pretty colors!
