I usually cleanse with Origins GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser (or Kate Somerville ExfoliKate, which is about once a week), then prescription antibiotic foam (clindamycin), Tatcha Brightening Serum (I have a small sample), and finally Origins A Perfect World SPF 35 with White Tea (which has apparently been discontinued).
Thanks to Jilly for today’s question! Do you have a question idea? Submit yours here.
Right now I’m using First Aid Beauty Deep Skin Rescue Cleanser, followed up by some Orange Blossom Water as a toner and then Origins Ginzing. Works perfect for my skin right now. I love Origins.
I will cleanse using purity by philosophy and then moisturise using Josie Maran’s argan oil.
xx
So I cleanse with Oskia Renaissance Cleanser usually or the Fresh Soy Face cleanser if I am feeling “normal” followed by Kiehl’s ultra facial cream intense version (new to the routine) and Clarins UV Plus HP sunscreen. Sometimes if I remember then i’ll slap on some eye cream!
*Cetaphil cleanser
*FAB Ultra Repair Facial Moisturizer + FAB Ultra Repair Sleeping Cream
*Sunscreen w/ SPF 30 (Supergoop City Serum for normal/combo or FAB 5-in-1 if really dry )
*Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer w/ SFP 15
*BB or CC Cream w/ SPF 30 -50( Dr. Jarts or IT Cosmetics)
*Hado Labo Tokyo SPF 18 (I spot re-apply throughout the day)
*Ok, I know that’s a LOT of sunscreens, but it’s working because people usually think I’m 10-15 years younger, so it’s worth it. I just wish I was this diligent when I was younger
Right now I splash with water, put on my Derma E anti-redness serum and then top it off with Derma E hydrating night cream. I know it’s for night but I use it for both if I’m not wearing sunscreen.
In the morning I wash my face with Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser. Twice a week I use an exfoliator. At the moment I’m using the dregs of my Boots Beautiful Skin Purifying Exfoliator. Then I apply a serum, which changes all the time since I’m just using up all the samples I’ve got. This week it’s the Guerlain Super Aqua-Sérum. Finally I moisturize with Elemis Hydra-Balance and if I feel I need it I’ll use a spritz of Rodial Dragon’s Blood Hyaluronic Tonic.
It’s a bit of a mish-mash but for me it works. 😛
I cleanse with Essano Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser, sometimes follow up with a serum (I LOVE Origins A Perfect World Skin Guardian, too broke at the moment though LOL), then Nivea Visage Light Moisturising Day Cream SPF30 (which I don’t love but, again, broke!), Origins Ginzing Eyecream, and MAC Lip Conditioner.
I’m gutted to hear they’ve discontinued the Origins A Perfect World with SPF!!! It’s not available here in Australia but I bought it once while I was overseas, and I’ve always held out hope that it would make it here one day.
I cleanse with a L’Occitane shea butter cleansing oil, I use a serum from Paula’s Choice, a moisturizer from Olay and a sunscreen from Glo-Therapeutics.
for my combination skin,Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser and then Fresh Rose Hydrating face serum(or Ren Evercalm Anti-Redness serum) and Lancome Bienfait UV Super Fluid Facial sunscreen spf50+
I have a water filter that produce mildly acidic water. for the skin So I spray that on my face, and then apply my morning eye cream and anti-aging serum. As they sink in, I will apply a lash lengthening product. Next, I apply a moisturizer with HA, and dab on a sunscreen. On days, that I work at home, that’s it. If I am going into the office, and it’s one of these brutal cold days we have been having, I will add a heavier moisturizer barrier cream or facial oil and allow those to absorb– and then top it with a CC cream with additional SPF.
Depends if I washed my makeup off from the night before (bad, I know!). Usually I start with wiping it clean with a warm facecloth. Then I use an oil based serum (right now I’m loving Ren 012 oil), then applying a couple drops of sea buckthorn berry seed oil on my cheeks and other areas where I’m super dry. Then I moisturize with Ren Evercalm day cream with a little bit of Philosophy vitamin C powder. I let it sink in while I eat my breakfast and then finish with Hourglass No. 28 serum primer.
As you can tell, I’m super dry. I only wash my face at night (fluctuate between Ren milk cleanser and Tatcha oil cleaner, because Tatcha is so expensive so I only use it on very dry days). I also abandoned my Clarisonic for the winter because it only irritated my already super dry skin.
Christine, I’ve been thinking on adding a SPF moisturizer, but I hate how greasy/chalky some of them can be. Do you like/recommend Origins or is this just a current product you are trying out right now?
The Origins’ moisturizer I’m using is discontinued, but in general, I like Origins’ skincare range and use A Perfect World with SPF often! Never chalky, but depending on your skin type, it may be too much/little moisture! When I need skincare, I usually buy Origins’ formulas – it’s that butter zone for me where it’s not terribly expensive (relative to high-end skincare!), isn’t heavily perfumed (like Lancome/Estee Lauder), has great texture, and does the job.
Speaking of which, I just logged onto my Gilt city account and saw a great deal! There is a coupon code for $30 off an $80 order. It was through my Gilt city link (I’m located in Boston but I wonder if it’s offered for all locations). You just order the free voucher and they will email you the code to use online. Thought I’d share it with you. I’ll probably use it to give some of their products a try. It’s good until March 29.
I forgot to add on an origins.com order. duh.
Haha, I totally just did it on Saturday myself! I just happened to be on Gilt and saw it, and I’m like, “Origins? Oh, yes, please!”
In the morning, I cleanse with Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Cream Cleanser, then apply Paula’s Choice 2% BHA lotion to face, neck, and decollete, then a mixture of First Aid Beauty Ultra Face Moisturizer with Paula’s Choice Resist Antioxidant Concentrate Serum and her Vitamin C Super Booster to my face and upper neck, including my under-eye area. As the weather warms up and I stop wearing jackets outside, I’ll have to add a sunscreen for my neck and decollete (my face makeup is also my sunscreen there). My neck and decollete get treatment products at night, but not in daytime as they’re too sweaty and I start to itch as the day goes on (TMI?).
I switch up my skincare a lot, every time I feel that I’m going to run out of something, I buy a backup of it by a different brand. The only cleanser I actually repurchase from time to time is the Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Cleanser. Still perfecting my routine….
KohGenDoh Cleaning Water
SKII Facial Treatment Essence (toner)
SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Acid (antioxidant serum)
SkinMedica Hydrating Complex ((hyaluronic acid)
Premiology 360 (hyaluronic acid)
Zo Restoracalm (when face is super dry from night time retinol)
Zo Oclipse C (sunscreen)
mild face wash; basic moisturizer like Clinique or olay and sunscreen
Cleanse with Avene Cleanance gel, put on Clarins Beauty Flash Eye Revive cream in the eye area, a pea size dollop of Obagi NuDerm Clear all over face, then Obagi NuDerm Exfodern (every other day) and finally a generous layer of Avene Dry Touch spf 50+ sunblock.
Wait a few minutes for sunscreen to absorb and then begin my makeup routine.
My skin is super dry and prone to irritation, redness, and breakouts. Cleanse with CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser Bar, follow with Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion as a toner. Then CeraVe Skin Renewing Cream Serum, Cheryl Lee MD Ceramide+ Cream, and Cheryl Lee MD Repair and Protect ointment on extra dry areas. Finally, tinted sunscreen – either SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion or MD Solar Sciences.
First I use Philosophy Purity Made Simple cleanser, then Antipodes Reincarnation exfoliator a few times a week. After cleansing and exfoliating I use a toner with tea tree water and finally I apply either a light moisturizer (La Roche-Posay Hydréane) or a brightening serum (Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance serum).
My routine is currently all Paula’s Choice as I’m just stepping my toes into no-fragrance, no-irritant skincare.
Cleanse: Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser
Tone: Resist Weightless Toner
Exfoliate: 2% BHA Daily Pore Treatment
Acne Treatment: Clear Benzoyl Peroxide Treatment in either 2.5 or 5%
Lightener: Skin Brightening Treatment
Serum: Resist C15 Super Booster and Skin Balancing Serum with Retinol
Moisturiser: Resist (forget what it’s called, lol) with SPF 30
It’s a lot of products but my skin has a lot of problems right now and this routine is helping tons in terms of lightening marks and helping acne.
Straight PC for me, too. Wasted lots of dough on high end acne products which never worked (now i know why) and am allergic to BP. In a way, kind of surprised that i ever went to Paula, since my first exposure was to her commentary on color cosmetics, with which i HIGHLY disagree. But, I might add on some things, but will never change basic lines. Still working on eye product combo, but currently:
Clear cleanser w/Clarisonic
Resist toner
Resist 2% BHA
light dotting of BHA 9 on ‘imperfections’
Resist C15
Face gets Resist Ultra Light serum
Eyes get regular Resist serum (this is the one i’m working on…)
Dependent on AM skin: Resist AA Clear Skin Hydrator or skip it
FAB Triple Duty Eye
Rest products + walk dog.
Spot cover ‘imperfections’ (still varying)
It Corrector
Resist Super Light blah blah TM
Working on which 2% BHA I prefer (resist, the white bottle, or the Clear) and to up the ante on the eye bit. S.t. i listen to Lisa Eldridge, who says to put on lip balm early, but JB is now off my radar since i developed an allergy to chemical sunscreens last summer. Just gave my last back up tube to my hairdresser…a guy. Now, I never buy anything in skincare that gets less than a GOOD on Beutypedia. And I read the cosmetics labels as assiduously as the food labels (admittedly with less understanding.) But that’s what the ingredient dictionary is for. For its effectiveness, information, and ‘truth value,’ PC is worth every penny.
I cleanse my face with Garden of Wisdom Gentle Cleanser. Some days I will use an acid toner Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 New Formula, followed by NuFountain C20+Ferulic 20% Vitamin C Serum. The next step is to hydrate with The Face Shop Chia Seed Water Toner. I moisturize with CherylLee MD TrueLipids TrueTherapy Ceramide+ Cream. I always finish with sunscreen, now I am testing the new Shiseido Wetforce SPF 50+ For Face and I am quite pleased by its performance. I even reapplied it on top of my makeup (patted) and everything looked good.
Cleanse with Silk Naturals Apricot Oil, then: Paula’s Choice (PC) Resist Replenishing Toner, PC 2% BHA lotion, PC Resist Skin Brightening Treatment mixed with a couple drops of PC Resist C15, PC Hydralight Shine-free Mineral Complex SPF30. I recently ordered a hyaluronic acid serum, and when I get it, I’ll be adding that as well, either as it’s own layer, or to mix with the Skin Brightening Treatment, if the texture will allow that.
Cleansers: Usually LUSH Ultrabland in the evening to take everything off, Cetaphil (or something similar) or Origins Checks and Balances (a little drying this time of year)
Then, whatever serum I have on hand…I am trying to not be wasteful and work my way through a zillion samples, right now I’m using something by a company called Filorga, its nice. I’ll see if I remember it after I get through the rest of my samples. I’m not usually a serum user (was disappointed in the only one I’ve purchased) but I’m starting to rethink it.
Then more often than not LUSH Celestial moisturizer, or sometimes Green Beaver.
I also use Tarte Maracuja Oil randomly and add sunscreen if I’m going to be in the sun, I usually wear NARS Tinted Moisturizer with SPF.
– FAB Face Cleanser
– Perricone MD Firming Facial Toner (AHA to exfoliate)
– Lancome Energie de Vie Daily Lotion (to hydrate)
– Perricone MD Formula 15
– Clarins Super Restorative Eye Concentrate (ultra light hydration)
– Darphin Hydraskin Light Gel Cream (if it’s cold outside or my skin feels dry from the tretinoin treatment the night before)
– Supergoop! CC Cream SPF 40 in Fair/Light
Lately I’ve been cleansing with my new Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser then following up with my Chanel Lotion Douceur toner. I moisturize using my Cerave AM Facial Lotion and use a little Josie Maran Argan Oil for added moisture
Face: Nu Skin 180° Face Wash, Kueshi Pure & Clean toner, Murad Acne Spot Fast Fix (if needed), Eslor Collagen Firming Day Cream, Nu Skin Moisture Restore Day Protective Lotion SPF 15 on face, Nu Skin Tru Face Line Corrector underneath eyes and on eyelids. Once a week I use Nu Skin Epoch Glacial Marine Mud mask.
In the summer, I’ll usually add a stronger sunscreen, and spritz with Nu Skin NaPCA Moisture Mist as needed. The sunscreen changes. I’m looking into less heavy/greasy options for my face.
Nu Skin Epoch Baobab Beauty Butter on hands, cuticles, and elbows.
I will either use one of the Garden of Wisdom’s gentle cleansers or just a warm wet washcloth. I follow with my Skin Actives rosacea serum, then Skin Actives collagen cream. Then, always a sunscreen. I have been enjoying Cool in SPF 30. Sometimes, depending on my plans for the day, I may need a much stronger sunscreen. I have several in my arsenal, but I really like the Neutragena one that comes in a little shake-up bottle SPF 70. It is so light and easy to wear makeup over top.
I don’t do anything in the morning unless I wake up really oily. Then I will rinse with cold water and put a light moisturizer or face sunscreen on top.
I do all of my cleansing and heavy moisturizing before bed. My skin has drastically improved since only washing once a day.
-Clean and Clear foaming facial cleanser for sensitive skin
-Olay Regenerist Serum (if I’m feeling dry)
-CC Cream with 50SPF
I wash my face with L’Occitane bonne mere marseille soap and apply a moisturizing sunscreen.
I use all Paulas Choice products exclusively. Liquid cleanser, toner, antioxidant serum, vitamin C serum, sunscreen SPF 50. Every single day, no matter what. It has improved my skin dramatically.
Splash with lots of warm water – Poppy Austin Vitamin C serum – Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Serum – Andalou Naturals Fruit Stem Cells Revitalize Serum – a few drops of Peter Thomas Roth Oilless Oil – Kiss My Face Face Factor SPF 30 sunscreen.
I cleanse with Sukin Sensitive skin cleansing lotion
I apply the QV Daily moisturizing cream with SPF30 – very soothing cream
Use Nude by Nature primer – wait for a few minutes and then off I go with the rest of my makeup.
Right now I’m using Eminence Stone Crop Gel was with my knojac sponge and then following up with their Sugar Plum Oil Free Revitializer. I exfoliate with one of their products–the pear and poppyseed stuff–a couple times a week, but I’m not all that wild about it. I need a toner too and I’m trying to decide if I’m just going to change my whole routine or what.
I am currently following Clinique’s 3 step method for skin type 3, plus I use Estee Lauder’s Idealist Pore Refiner before moisturizing. Due to hormonal imbalance I went from very dry, tight skin to comination / oily skin with breakouts, and although I never liked Clinique’s 3 step routine for dry skin, their products for combo skin are doing so great at keeping oil and breakouts at bay!!
Cleanse with Cerave cream cleanser, toss on some Hada Labo hydrator and some C-serum, wait 20 min and spray with glycerin + water, then Cerave cream & sunscreen. I exfoliate with St. Ives pads every other day after cleansing. (Generally, I don’t use sunscreen since I don’t get any indoor/indirect exposure, and less than 15 min of going to work/going home exposure, but since adding C & Retinol I figured it was a good idea.)
I only wash my face at night. In the morning I rinse it in the shower, put on Clinique City Block sunscreen, let that set, put some sort of eye cream under my eyes (currently Clinique sample, but I’m not set on that one), and then I do my makeup.
Splash with water to cleanse
Clinique All About Eyes eye cream
Vitamin C serum (homemade)
Eucerin Daily Protection SPF 30 moisturizer
Yes to Coconuts balm on any dry, flaky spots
I loosely follow the guidance from the Routines cheatsheet on Caroline Hirons’s blog (she’s a UK beauty therapist). So:
-Cleanse: cream cleanser, usually Body Shop Aloe or La Roche-Posay Tolériane
-Acid toner: Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion (the cloudy green one)
-Hydrating toner: a couple different ones, but primarily Marcelle Tonifying Lotion – the name is long and I can’t remember all of it, lol
-Eye products: Tromborg eye gel + Clinique All About Eyes cream
-Serum: varies, but most often Génifique in the morning
-Facial oil: varies between a couple of Odacité ones (for glow or balancing, depending on my skin that day), or pure jojoba or sweet almond oil on extra sensitive days
-Moisturiser: again, varies! Especially by time of year/weather. Most common is La Roche-Posay Tolériane Soothing Protective cream. I also put on Indeed Labs Hydraluron serum immediately prior to moisturising, as that boosts the moisturiser’s hydration capabilities
-SPF: I do not leave the house in daylight hours without a high factor sunscreen. Favourites are La Roche-Posay Anthelios in either the melt-in cream or the extreme fluid, and a new one is the Benefit Dream Screen, which has a lovely satin matte finish. I used to love the Neutrogena Ultra Matte as well, before they added heliotrope to it (I’m allergic), but for those in North America who get along with flowers, it’s brilliant.
Proactiv+ Exfoliator Cleanser or Bar
Proactiv+ Toner or Pore Targeting Treatment or prescription toner
Clinique Eye Gell (pink)
Clean & Clear, Proactiv+ or Tazorac
I cleanse with Sunday Riley Charisma Crème cleanser (holy grail), I use 2 different toners, eye cream, Bioderma Sébium Global (blemish treatment), Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment (holy grail), Kate Sommerville oil-free serum & Kate Sommerville oil-free moisturizer.
Olay Foaming Facial Wash-sensitive with Ecco tools facial sponge
Estee Lauder Micro Essence
ACURE Moroccan Argan oil
Cerave Eye Repair Cream
Estee Lauder Perfectionist CP +R Serum
Neutrogena Visibly Even Moisturizer spf 30
