Tom Ford Beauty Ripe Plum Eye Color Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Tom Ford Beauty Ripe Plum Eye Color Duo
Tom Ford Beauty Ripe Plum Eye Color Duo ($60.00 for 0.13 oz.) consists of a iridescent opal and deeper burgundy-brown. I like the concept, and the two colors work well off of each other, as when you blend them together, they create a lighter, iridescent plum shade, but they both have room for improvement.
Ripe Plum (Left) is an iridescent pink-tinted white with a frosted, slightly metallic finish. It had a more frosted finish when applied dry, and the color payoff was mostly opaque. Applied damp, it was smoother and more pigmented with a stronger sheen. The texture was soft, blendable, and easy to use, but I thought it could apply more smoothly when used damp as it tended to bunch up and look almost clumpy applied. On me, it lasted for nine hours before creasing slightly. Urban Decay Roadstripe (LE, $18.00) is cooler-toned. Make Up For Ever I902 Quartz (P, $21.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever I872 Pearly Pink (P, $21.00) is pinker. NARS Cassiopeia (P, $29.00) is cooler-toned. Tom Ford Beauty Seductive Rose #1 (P) is not quite as iridescent. Tom Ford Beauty Enchanted #1 (LE) is lighter. MAC Opalesse (LE, $19.50) is cooler-toned. MAC Ready to Party (LE, $19.50) is slightly cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Ripe Plum (Right) is a dark, burgundy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. Applied dry, it appeared warmer with a softer finish, but it was less pigmented, too. Applied with a dampened brush, the color went with intense color coverage and a smoother sheen. The color is buildable dry, so opaque color can be achieved without having to use it wet, but I found it to look a little dry-looking when used dry (a spirtz of water or a fixing spray can help, though). It wore well for nine hours on me before fading. Giorgio Armani Senso (10) (P, $38.00) is a liquid, warmer. Sephora + Pantone Universe Red Mahogany (LE) is lighter, warmer. Dior Cuir Cannage #1 (P) is lighter. LORAC Granite (LE) is similar. Tarte Lavender Bubble Bath (LE) is cooler-toned. NARS Subra (P, $29.00) is cooler-toned, less shimmery. Urban Decay West (LE, $18.00) is warmer. Inglot #423 (P, $6.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Looks stunning Christine. I keep trying to talk myself out of these but not sure how well that is going to go. Leaning towards Jade though.
I kind of prefer the NARS shades to this particular duo!
i was thinking i might get the new NARS palette instead of these duos. i know the colors are different, but how do the formulas compare? they sound like they would be similar.
The formulas are pretty much the same (along with MAC In Extra Dimension, Estee Lauder Pure Color Gelee, etc.). When it comes to these two colors, I kind of prefer NARS’, though the lighter shade option I could go either way, Subra (closest to the darker shade) is much better from NARS.
TF seems more pigmented dry, though – that’s probably the biggest difference – on the whole, but it can depend on the shade.
WOW, this is gorgeous! Especially if one doesn’t mind dampening a brush each time they’re used, this looks well worth it to me… and what incredible colors together. I think I’ll add this one to my “haha maybe someday” wish list!!
🙂 Nice wish list, haha!
I definitely like the end result, but I’m covered in these color departments.
They’re both pretty dupable!
Hmm, I thought Ripe Plum would be a dark purple, but it’s a dark brown, unless you you mix with the other shade to get a plum. Love the eye look you did -very spring like! Sorry to go off topic, but is Tom Ford Spring 2015 cream shadow similar in color to Benefit’s Skinny Jeans?

Thanks so much! I thought they looked pretty similar, think I just saved myself $ 42 !
I just ordered this duo and the cream shadow. I am loving the colors of plum. I hope I love it when I get it.
Yay!
I love the blended together colour. So pretty!
They do create a nice color together!
That looks so pretty blended out. I might have to pick this up, along with the cream eye color.
Happy you liked the look of them!
I’m wondering why yours don’t look like the promo pics..hmm. Theirs seem more colorful! lol..figures! It’s still very pretty and I don’t mind dampening the brush. But, for a $60 duo and these are pretty dupable shades and only a B, I am considering canceling the ripe plum pre-order. I tear at myself a s a lover of makeup because I don’t have much Tom Ford. But,I think MUFE can do it better personally. Hmm..I will have to think on this. Looks overall lovely though. Is there a difference between using water vs. setting spray to dampen the brush?
I think the promo photos are over-saturated and/or they’re trying to depict more of the sheen of the lighter shades.
These shades are a lot more warmer than the promo pictures it seems. But I’m a bit more smitten with the NARS Cassiopeia shade (wish it was part of that NARSissist palette. lol)
I feel like NARS’ formula did it better!
Another amazing combo, love love love these new duos!
Yay!
Only a B 🙁 I porbably won’t spend the money. Thanks for saving me $$$.
You’re welcome! xo
Pretty, but I’ll stick with dupes.
Good call!
These look nice but the price should be reflected in the quality and at these prices, I’d expect A’s. Fortunately, these are pretty easily duped.
They are surprisingly dupable!
Gee, those shades looked so different on your eye than they did in the pan photos or in the swatches. They looked gorgeous on you. Sorry to hear that they are a bit of a challenge to apply, but the end result was definitely worth it. Soooo gorgeous!
They’re pretty but not stellar, unfortunately!
I was hoping the plum shade would be more purple but this still looks like a beautiful palette
It is very burgundy-ish!
The formula looks so luxurious!! I’m trying to talk myself out of trying to get my hands on these!
Good luck 😉
This look is so beautiful, I wish it had gotten a bit better of a review though. Do you by any chance have dupes for the color of the shade when these two are mixed together? I know, that is asking a lot lol but I’d love to be able to replicate this maybe with other colors in my stash!
MAC Pink Opal pigment!
It looks beautiful on you Christine, but I don’t think the colours are unique enough to spend that sort of money. I would want the rating to be an A at least.
They’re definitely not unique, IMO 🙁
What base are you using for these shadows or is it just a primer? If you don’t mind letting me know either way….and did you apply them damp for this look? I am really loving it, especially for summer…. I have such a hard time saying NO to Tom Ford. I can’t decide if I should spend the $60 for two shades (thanks to your stunning look) or pay the $200 tracking Enchanted down. First World problems, I know! I am really shocked at how well the lighter color showed up on your lid and lower lash line – I can’t get that Nars shade to show up on me for the life of me!! I can’t wait to find out what magic you used or if these just plan show up better… Thanks love!
Hi Kyle,
I don’t use any primer or base in my looks unless otherwise stated (you probably won’t see me using either 99% of the time!). I applied them with a mix of damp/dry for this look though 🙂
I tried these at the Tom Ford counter and pulled the trigger immediately! These pictures do not do the duo justice! The white shade has an opalescent quality that when melded into the plum looks sublime and makes my blue eyes pop!. Love!
Glad you love yours, Lisa!
I may be just being weird, but I really love how these look in the pan – like, literally the surface texture. With these colours especially, they just look somehow like the fabrics of an expensive suit, or something.
I’ll go be weird over here now, LOL!
lol! They do have a great print to them.
Temptalia how similar is this to the mac dual intensity duo in plum that came out this past holiday season? Is this worth the splurge if I already have the mac one?
Do you have the name of it?
OH sorry! I mis-spoke, the shadows are extra dimensional eye shadows (got confused with nars) it was in the PLUM KEEPSAKES EYE BAG & the color of the shadows were triple impact & Round midnight.
Thank you! 🙂
TF vs. Triple Impact: http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=189697&dupe=105105 — Triple Impact is purpler/cooler-toned (less white)
TF vs. Round Midnight: http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=189698&dupe=105099 — Round Midnight is cooler-toned, more purple/less burgundy
you’re the best – thanks!
I swatched this collection in store today (unfortunately they didn’t have the stock yet to buy) and the opal shade looked very opal pink on my NC42 skin tone. I created a pink/plum look by applying the opal shade first up to my crease then blending the darker shade on top of it so it actually looked plum. This is a great little duo for medium/dark skin tones.
That’s great to hear, Alyssa!
I’ve been debating buying this since it was released and now that fall releases are coming, I’m freaking out that it’s going to be discontinued. I can’t tell if Im being sueded by the packaging, but I think I really am in love with the products combo, though I cant decide if I want this plum combo or the jade.
What to do, what to do!? You’re right though – Casiopia and Subra might be a better idea, especially fi they aren’t limited edition, and I can wait for a sale…Why is this so hard…
#firstworldproblems
They are LE as far as I know, so once they are gone, they may be gone for good, though TF repromotes somethings.
I would get the one that you’d wear most often – which one could you use both shades together and love the result?
Ripe Plum would win out for sure – I have green eyes and can’t deny that it’s best suited for me, and despite how much I love that Jade I bet I wouldn’t wear it often enough to justify the price tag.
Ok I caved… Ripe Plum has been purchased! Thanks for talking me through it girl! 🙂 I feel better about it considering they should start leaving the shelves at any time now.
Glad I could help 😀
