Dior House of Pinks Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a pink-hued palette with five shades ranging from pink-tinted ivory to mauve. Despite having continual poor luck with the quality in Dior’s palettes, I remain a glutton for punishment and bought both of the new spring palettes. I wasn’t impressed with House of Pinks due to its drier, unforgiving texture–it made my entire lid space look dry. I thought Monochrome was frustrating to work with (I tested both simultaneously, one on each eye), but Monochrome didn’t emphasize texture nearly as much, despite being more powdery (I guess that’s the where the silkiness came into play). The consistency of the eyeshadows was generally firmer and drier, while the color payoff ranged from semi-sheer to semi-opaque. They were harder to apply to bare skin, as they didn’t want to stick, and only one shade performed decently. It’s yet another palette that reminds me of why Dior’s palettes are a “look but don’t touch” situation more often than not. Dior palettes are best at inspiring me to try a new color combination, but I should know better by now to create it with anything but Dior’s own palette.

House of Pinks #1 is a gold-shimmered, pink-white with a frosted finish. It had a dustiness to it that made it a pain to work with, and it seemed to really be one of the worst offenders when it came to exacerbating the texture of my natural lid (which looks fine with the majority of the eyeshadows I have ever used). It lasted for five and a half hours before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

House of Pinks #2 is a pale, pink-tinted white with a matte finish. It was semi-sheer with a very powdery, dusty texture that was prone to fading and didn’t apply evenly. It lasted for five hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

House of Pinks #3 is a brightened pop of cool-toned, light-medium pink with a pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer color payoff but was rather dusty and almost chalky, and it barely showed up on the lid. It really needed to be pressed into the skin and packed on for any visible color, but none of it stuck. It just seemed to fade immediately. The washed-out version of it that remained after the initial five minutes stayed in its sad state for six hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

House of Pinks #4 is a mauve-y taupe brown with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation with a slightly firm, dry texture. It lasted for seven hours on me before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

House of Pinks #5 is a dark, eggplant purple with subtle, warm brown undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a drier, dustier texture that applied unevenly. It creased after six hours of wear. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Better you than me, Christine, I do not own one Dior eyeshadow despite how pretty they look at times. I do like the Rouge lipsticks though but not a variety of shades.

I couldn’t agree more. I bought their liquid eyeliner and it didn’t stay half an hour. Normally my eyeliners wear throughout the day.
I was shocked!

Ouch! A D(+)?! Didn’t expect that at all! The colors look pretty decent on your arm swatches, though, but yeah, I can see how they are kind of dry applied on the actual lid. What’s happening with the quality of Dior quints lately?!

Dang! I saw the picture and was like, Ooo! Maybe this will be a good pink palette! Scroll down to grade and womp womp. Is there a nice pink/mauve palette out there you would recommend? Preferably something cooler than Naked 3.

The pinks are so pretty in the pan, it’s heartbreaking they look so bad on. I drool over stuff like this and modernist palettes, and hate that I can very rarely afford them…but then I see swatches and read reviews. (Not just here, although I do think your process is the best.)

At least I don’t feel bad that I instead bought a Coastal Scents Winterberry Palette that costs less than $15. At least the pigmentation and formula on that are really good. I feel like I got a steal, rather than I missed out on incredible luxury.

Its funny how much your standards have rose. A year or two ago this would’ve gotten a B+. If you go back and look at, for example, the bobbi brown palettes you reviewed a long time ago–which in todays standards look AWFUL, but you gave them good reviews because at the time that was the best companies could do.

When I changed the rating system, that’s really when the ratings would have changed (because I looked more closely at brand’s claims, and then certain aspects are weighted or are no longer waited, e.g. packaging, value, etc.), but I did that a few years ago. Based on swatches alone, this palette should have been better (low B/high C), but put into practice, and it really showed its true colors (which is why swatching alone isn’t always enough). It was really surprising! I feel like usually it’s the other way around (performs better than initial swatches would have you think).

A few disappointing high end palettes lately. Such a shame when cheaper brands are putting out some great quality items and in exciting shades. Shade choice would have made me turn to a higher brand previously but there are dupes everywhere now.

Just when you don’t think you can get any worse than Hourglass’s new shadows, Dior comes along and hits a new low. Dry, fades, sheer, won’t stick, chalky, powdery for $63?? Dior’s shadow palettes have been going downhill for a while. I agree that some of the Wet N Wild kits have surpassed them. I refuse to buy any of the Dior palettes unless I read at least several positive reviews from a few trusted bloggers AND swatch in store. I don’t know why HE brands risk their reputations by issuing horrible products at ever increasing prices, it must be short term greed, but this will eventually catch up with them…..

This looks very similar to one of the Hourglass palettes -both in colour and in quality. It even looks bad in the photos let alone the swatches. I think a pink eyeshadow quint has a limited range of complexions it would suit and there are so many out there on the market. Dior is losing faith with its customers. I have read on other blogs that the House of greens quint is better. It would want to be.

A few years back, Clinique had a “Strawberries & Chocolate” palette that was quite similar to this Dior one (of course at a fraction of the price). Dior added the peachy shade but this assortment of colors is not really new.

Not like Dior to be so unimaginative but it is like Dior to miss more than hit!

There’s a 2-step program for Dior palette punishers: Pause & Reflect.

I honestly love these colors together as a palette, yet I’d rather create the grouping with better formulated eye shadows AND *bonus* I save money! 😀

Well, the smudgy eggplant under the bottom lashes looks nice, but it sounds like that took way too much effort 🙁 . The mobile lid is like a sheer wash of pink – there’s so little colour payoff that it’s difficult to even tell there’s more than one shade there!

I succumbed to the House of Greens, so I’ll be curious what you think of that. I haven’t given it a good test wear yet myself, just got it. But I pretty much always wear an eye primer so it’s still useful to see how it performs on bare lids.

Jess Avatar

Harsh words for Dior, but I can’t say I disagree! I don’t know why such a high-end brand continues to produce such mediocre eyeshadows. Their nail polish and lip products are generally excellent, and I’ve heard good things about their face products, so I don’t understand the consistently underperforming palettes.

Lisa Avatar

Really Dior? I can see one release or even one season of bad shadows but how long has it been since they released quality shadows and blushes consistantly? Sure there are some gems but over all I just avoid Dior powders unless it really catches my eye.

and to think dior was my favorite eyeshadow brand a couple of years ago.i still have some palettes and they are great but these new releases are terrible. CMON’ DIOR, make me love you again.
