Swatch Saturday: ColourPop Matte Super Shock Shadows Photos & Swatches

ColourPop Matte Super Shock Shadows
ColourPop Matte Super Shock Shadows

Recently, ColourPop launched new shades of their Matte Super Shock Shadows (I believe nine are totally new, and then a few were previously released in limited edition holiday sets). I’ll definitely be reviewing some, but I have no idea whether I’ll end up testing all/when they’ll be reviewed, so here are swatches for those who’ve been curious if the brand has less sparkly shades available. I have 13 of the 14 (four I had previously) to share with you…

Hey Christine,

Just wanted to let you know that the last picture you posted you accidentally put Bill when it was a picture of Tink. You can delete this post if you want after you read it. I just wanted to give you a heads up. Thanks so much for posting more ColourPop stuff, I am obsessed with them right now. Also, obsessed with the new L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Last Lipcolors (I have 7 now).

YESS!!! I’m so excited Colorpop came out with mattes. Good matte shadows can be really hard to find and for only $5, unbelievable. Christine, are these shadows easy to de-pot?

Christine Avatar

They’re cream, so if you depotted them, they would probably dry out 🙁 If you had something that was pretty air tight, you could just scoop them out and put them somewhere else (like MAC’s empty palette with wells, though one eyeshadow will not fill up a well).

I had one fall out of the packaging when I accidentally dropped it. They are only about 1/4 inch thick, the rest of the packaging is solid. They have a consistency that reminds me of the infallible shadows but slightly more wet.. they crumble into large pieces but “mush” back together pretty seamlessly. Just FYI if anyone wanted to try repotting. Personally I would leave them as is, the packaging is nice and airtight. I found a craft organizer at Walmart that holds them beautifully (color tattoos or similar as well) face up with each in it’s own little box, I believe it holds 18, latching lid and almost transparent plastic so you can see through it… for around $4. If you are looking I suggest grabbing a color tattoo off the display and taking it with you to make sure you get the right one.

Thanks for the tip Charlotte. I have a ton of colourPop.I’ve been trying to come up with a way to organize them so I can see the color. I have been looking at container store. Seems kinda pricey for plastic boxes.

Everyone is welcome. Took me forever to find something to organize my Color Tattoos.. they drove me nuts. Everything was the wrong size and you can’t stack them on their sides since you can’t see the colors. The Colorpops just happened to fit in the same box.. I have three or four of them now for all my cream shadows. I can’t seem to find the exact one on the website anymore but it looks exactly like this: http://www.michaels.com/darice-17-compartment-bead-organizer/10091119.html#q=craft+organization&start=6 The box dimensions are right, but the compartments are too small mine are 1-3/4″x2-1/2″ with one 1-3/4″x5″ box that holds two shadows for a total of 18.. not sure how that is possible unless the website is wrong. Maybe you could take a shadow with you to the store to be sure. I’m almost positive my Walmart still has them too.
Also I use another box with more smaller compartments to organize my jewelery.. so handy especially for earrings and sets.

Which brush do you use to apply the ColourPop shadows, Christine? I haven’t found a synthetic brush yet that picks up enough product to get opaque color pay-off.

I’m really impressed with these, especially at their price point! I wish higher-end brands would put out products with the same quality, especially when it comes to cream shadows.

I’m loving Effect, Bill and Girl Crush. Girl Crush is such a great lavender taupe.

All of these are really nice. ColourPop might end up on my very short list of mattes I love. (UD Naked Basics and Naked2Basics, Tarte, and MUFE.)

I’m addicted to ColourPop now just like everyone else and picked up Girl Crush the day it released. It was advertised as being grayer than it is, but I do really like the dusty mauve gray it is. I like the lippies I have, but vastly prefer the pigments/shadows. So far I have Sunnies, Get Lucky, Hustle, Cheeky, Game Face, Krinkle, Girl Crush, and Kimono and love each one. Animal, Chipper, Not a Box of Chocolates set, Never Naughty set, Sugar, and Lace are on their way to me. I love that these are so high-quality yet relatively inexpensive to collect. Excellent for collectors, beginners who want to try new colors, artists, and most importantly those who cannot express pricier similar monos.

Celia Avatar

Silly autocorrect! Access*, not express on my OP hehe. Definitely. There are more great shades that are unique than I ever expected at this price point. And with such successful shade diversity, at 5 bucks a pop a less than AMAZING shade isn’t such a big disappointment. And is super satisfying when they are amazing! And I’ve found their costumer service really great so far.

These looks nicely pigmented. I used to hate using matte shadows but I guess that is mostly the fault of the brand I chose — it was so hard to work with! However, I did like the ones from ColourPop’s holiday set.

Andrew Avatar

First of all, Bill looks like it would be a spectacular dirty mauve blush. It reminds me of NARS Doceur, only with a little more of a plummy tone. For some reason this particular shade really draws me in.

Secondly, I’m actually glad to see that some are flat-matte and some are modern-matte (mostly matte but a slight satin sheen). I know I’ve voiced my disapproval of labeling things as ‘matte’ when they’re not ‘old school matte’, but for some reason it works with these shadows.

Thanks for the quick run through, Christine!

These look really nice! I may have snorted some tea over my keyboard when I read that they had a shade called ‘Cop a Feel’ though. 😀 It doesn’t offend me in the least or anything, but it’s…one step more blunt/crass than most brands usually manage, LOL!

I think Tink and Effect are my favourites here (I have this weird obsession with elephant grey eye-makeup. I have no idea why. It’s like chartreuse) 😉
