Sneak Peek: Maybelline Color Elixir Iridescent Lipglosses Photos & Swatches
Maybelline Color Elixir Iridescent Lipgloss
Maybelline Color Elixir Iridescent Lipgloss ($8.99 for oz.) is a new formula for spring that’s supposed to have rich color with “brilliant iridescent shine.” I bought seven at my local drugstore (they were missing one, which I ordered online last week, but I don’t have it yet!). I also bought several of the spring lipstick shades, and I hope to share a sneak peek of those tomorrow 🙂 Full reviews to come!

Mauve looks really pretty, but what is up with those applicators! They made me laugh.
Maybelline seemed to have some trouble with applicators with these in general, but the spring ones seemed really bad (or else I’m just very unlucky).
I think The Muse (from musingsofamuse) was complaining about the same problem with the applicators for the spring shades specifically. I wonder how they allowed these to pass quality control, because oy.
I agree, Keri! When I saw the first pic I thought, hmmm, must be a strange angle. Lol
I saw these at my store and decided to skip. Looking at the swatches and on I’m glad I did. Is it me or are they blotchy? I normally love the Elixirs but I was hesitant with the shimmer. I’m looking forward to your review…did I miss out…or did I do right in skipping…?
The Rebel Blooms, if those are the lipstick you have, I loved. But I like pastels.
They’re certainly not lipstick-like coverage.
I’m torn because they seem way to sheer to impart any colour but Pearlescent Peach caught my eye. Although I only own 005 Breathtaking Apricot from the original line it has a good amount of colour to it with shimmer.
They definitely seem less sheer relative to other Color Elixirs! I thought that was the schtick, but apparently not (per the description).
Woah, what happened to the applicators?
That’s how they came 🙁
Picking up all of them as soon as I see them!
Yay!
Is it just me, or did some of those come with wonky applicators? These new colors look interesting. My favorite in this line I Caramel Infused!
Oh, yeah, the applicators seemed really prone to bending/breaking in this batch. I think I had one or two from the original set that came out, but it seemed more common here.
Uhhh what is wrong with the applicators? Some of them are so squashed and others have an angle! What is it “supposed” to be like?
With that said, I’m definitely feeling Mystical Magenta and Lust for Mauve!
Pearlescent Peach is a good indication of what it should look like (from what I think, at least) – slightly angled but not broken!
How did they smell Christine? I did not like the original ones because I could not deal with the perfumey smell.
Same perfume-y smell/slight taste!
The sparkle in most of them is beautiful! 🙂 But those applicators are just silly.
I don’t know why they’re all over the place!
The look pretty but also pretty sheer.
They definitely don’t seem as pigmented as the originals.
I just got some of these today, i need to open them and check my applicators lol. Some of the colors look pretty i personally love a sparkle lip. There is so much awesome new stuff out i was in the drug store for almost an hour. Loreal and rimmel have new 2 step liquid lipsticks, Maybelline rebel bloom, loreal infallible powder & foundation, physicians formula argan wear. Drug store brands are really stepping up their game.
Sounds like you totally scored!
Some of those doe-foots (feet?) look positively weird and deformed!
Yep, some of them were broken or partially bent/broken (one was floppy entirely).
Those applicators bending like that would drive me nuts.
Seems like it is a common problem, unfortunately 🙁
I have a weakness for mauve. Might have to pick that one up!
Aw! 🙂
These are just too sheer for me. I’m glad I went for the Revlon HD’s instead!
Yay!
You’re the second person I’ve seen who’s had their applicators curled up like that!
I definitely remember one or two were like that when I reviewed the original range, but these seemed more prone to coming slightly broken/mangled.
Lol I’ve seen so many pics with the applicators all bent up. I wonder what’s going on with that. I like a few of the colors but they don’t seem as opaque as the original line
Seems like they need to straighten out their manufcaturing!
Well after the Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquers, the Maybelline ones look very disappointing to me. The size looks smaller, they apply very sheer and unevenly, and the bad applicator doesn’t help. If I want a sheerer lipgloss, all I need to do is take the Revlon one, dot it on, then apply clear lip balm on top. These Maybelline ones are probably better layered over lipstick.
I was surprised they didn’t call these sheer!
I just bought these yesterday. They are pretty, but not anything spectacular. One of my glosses had the mangled applicator. I Thought someone may have tampered with it, but I’m glad to know that’s not the case.
I definitely think there are troubles when they’re packaged 🙁
Hmm..I am interested in reviews on these. I am typically a Nars gloss girl. But, still find it doesn’t wear too great and winds up all over my face if my hair or something touches it (annoying!) I would love to find one that performs better or the same at a lower price. But, Idk, glosses..is it possible for them not to move around. I do like YSL glossy stain. I own 1. So expensive! I have the bright red that was the “holiday” one which has to be applied like a lipstick anyway.
Most glosses will move around 🙁 You might look into a glossier lipstick finish instead (like YSL Rouge Voluptes, as an example, have a very glossy finish).
Thank you for the reccomendation! Those have gorgeous packaging. Will have to check those out soon. I tend to prefer the lighter weight in spring summer.
Some look okay but a little too sheer for me. I do really like some of the original colors that have been out. Some are super pigmented!! They just don’t last too long. 🙁
I was surprised that these were marketed the same way as the originals!
These all seem like GLITTER GLITTER GLITTER
Definitely more shimmer than glitter 🙂
What kind of flavor or taste do these have? Do the lipsticks have the same taste?
It’s a very perfume-y scent, and there is a similar taste.
I had Lust for Mauve in my cart the other day along with some of the new lipsticks but at the last minute decided not to buy, I’ll probably get one or two of the lipsticks at some point but I’m realising that I don’t reach for gloss as much and I own so many! 🙂
I tried one of these!
They are actually pretty nice but they are artificial grape scented and it made me gag.
The curved applicator also threw me for a loop, but wasn’t a dealbreaker.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on these.
The color elixirs aren’t my cup of tea! They aren’t opaque enough for my liking, not to mention glosses like these don’t go well with long hair! The Rebel Bloom lipsticks, which are from Maybellines Spring Release as well, were way more impressive!
Mauve, petal and peach are the prettiest of these for me (still sniggering at the applicators, ha!), although I have to say none of them is really tickling my smoke bombs, as it were. Especially not after those Revlon HD glosses!
Eh, I’m not really blown away by any of it, wonky applicators not withstanding. The idea of iridescence seems really nice and intriguing, but just from these photos it doesn’t seem like they’re performing all that well. I guess I should wait for the review before I judge!
The look really really good and are quite pigmented!
The last one is my favourite!
xo
I like sheer lip products but these look a bit uneven… And the applicator looks so weird! I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt though. Waiting for a full review.
These look very nice! I especially like Glistening Coral.
Wow! That mauve looks so good! I own one color, but I can’t stand the smell and taste. If I could just hold my breath and refrain from licking my lips that mauve would be on my shopping list, LOL. Too bad about the applicators. Thanks for the sneak peek.
I want to love these, but the smell is an appetite suppressant. 😛
I liked the Maybelline elixir formula but the coverage isn’t upto the mark.. and that applicator 😛 .. they seemed to have gone through a lot 😉
I wish these were not so sheer, some of the brighter colors look a little uneven because of that. Pretty colors nonetheless!
