Burberry Gold Glow No. 01 Luminizing Powder Review, Photos, Swatches
Burberry Gold Glow No. 01 Luminizing Powder
Burberry Gold Glow No. 01 Luminizing Powder ($68.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a dirty, light-medium antique gold with a frosted sheen. Chanel Camelia de Plumes (LE, $76.00) is much lighter. Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Glow (P) is warmer. Chanel Dentelle Precieuse (LE, $80.00) is warmer. Becca Opal (P, $38.00) is warmer, cream. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Despite the very true, yellowed gold packaging, Burberry’s take on “Gold” in terms of actual color is much lighter, and honestly, unexpected. It is fragranced with the My Burberry scent, which is a stronger floral (a mix of bergamot, freesia, and rose), and it’s not a subtle or faint scent, so if you don’t like scented powders or are adverse to floral scents in general, you may want to skip this. You might be able to minimize the scent by leaving the compact open for a few days. I did notice the scent when applied to the skin, but it didn’t seem to be apparent after about forty minutes of wear. The powder is lovely with its soft, silky consistency that blended beautifully and highlighted the skin without emphasizing pores. It gives the skin a luminous glow that is easy to achieve. On me, the highlighter wears well for nine hours before starting to fade. It includes a very slim, narrow yet wide, straight-across brush, which will work and isn’t the worst brush I’ve tried, though not something I would use if one already had full-sized brushes.

It’s look like Za cosmetics(from Japan) Cheek color in June Bride
Great to know!
I don’t want to want this, but…GAH! So pretty!
It is tempting!
Christine – this is truly a BEAUTIFUL look on you. So far, nothing from Burberry has piqued my interest, but you are making me want both the highlighter and the lip gloss!!
Thanks, RB!
I like this. Is the brush included with it? Is the brush something that you would keep and use often?
Yes, it’s included, but I personally wouldn’t use it. I throw those away myself!
Bummer, I was trying to justify the price by telling myself “But it includes a brush and the brush has to be worth at least $30!”
The color is quite unlike any of the “typical” golden highlighters but it looks so much more natural than those typical powders! You look beautiful in that picture Christine! This powder really enhances your features!
Thanks a lot, Divya!
This is so interesting, because it looks beautiful on you, but in the pan I find it so unappealing it’s ridiculous.
It is an interesting shade in the pan!
Why Burberry, why?? Gorgeous shimmering color but I can’t wear any perfume scented products on my face! My wallet thanks you though (sob)
Awww, sorrrry 🙁 It is strong for sure.
It looks beautiful! Your whole look is gorgeous!
Thanks, Agata!
Everything about this look is perfection! I had to go to see all the other products that you used to achieve this stunning result. Breathtaking in such a classic, elegant (but not too fancy) kinda way. Love it and will have to pick this up.
Glad ya liked this highlighter, Helen!
Amazing! The whole look is so festive & beautiful on you. Love the eyeshadow and lipgloss as well. I was hoping I could skip this as I already own so many burberry beauty items but, nope, cannot skip!
Thanks, Elle!
Hi Christine, does the pictured brush come with the powder?
Yes.
I really didn’t want to want this! So pretty! Looks stunning on you.
Aww!
I respectively disagree that Burberry’s “take” on a gold highlighter is unexpected, especially when you consider the pairing with their new scent. It continues the theme of celebrating the trench. That shade is an interpretation of the gabardine used in their classic trench. I agree that it’s beautiful-mine is on order and I was thrilled to see a great review-I trust your opinion on beauty products!
It is unexpected relative to the gold you would see during holidays 🙂 That is what I meant. Especially with the true gold yellow used on the packaging, the actual products are quite a different shade!
Oh gosh, that is so pretty! I find it really different from most highlighters I am drawn to.
It is a little different 😀
A “Temptalia Recommends”!
Burberry and their festive gold lol so tempting.
I haven’t smelt the fragrance but I like freesias. Is there alcohol in the ingredients?
Added the list of ingredients! I’m not sure if you’re looking for something that is just “alcohol” or something else. 🙂
Oh, thank you, Christine!
Oh man..killah. Perfect for many of us who find a lot of these ‘gold’ highlighters running far too warm. This one speaks to me. I wish it didn’t… scrambles off to favourite department store website…
Fingers crossed you can find it 🙂
Nabbed it~ 😀
Cdn store: The Bay.. avail on-line.
YES!
It’s definitely an interesting colour for a highlighter and I often find they pull warmer on me then I’d like, but considering I’ve been using the same Smashbox product to highlight with for 5 years (first and only highlighter I’ve ever bought haha) I am going to have to swatch this.
Definitely give it a swatch 🙂
What’s the highlighter that you use?
It’s this 4 shade thing from Smashbox called Soft Lights. I believe mine is called Brighten.
With the scent I think I’d leave it for clavicles.
Good idea!
What a beauty! This would be one of those want-so-bad-but-really-dont-need products 🙂
🙂
Hmmm, very pretty, but it doesn’t look light enough to actually work as a highlight on fair skin. What do you think?
I think it would, as it can be blended and sheered out – it is more shimmery than “colored” I would say.
It’s gorgeous on you….can u tell me what brushes you usually use for finishing/luminiximg powders?
I used a fan brush for this one, but it will just depend on the day as to what I reach for 🙂
OOOO again, I must photograph and try mine on as soon as I can! This is BEAUTIFUL! I prefer this type of finish to something that is more metallic. Seems like Burberry did a GREAT job this season!
Fingers crossed you dig it, Sunny!
This should become one of your personal HGs, Christine. It’s so perfect on you!
It looks so beautiful on you, in fact, that I had to have it. I like the scent so that’s fine with me. I don’t think it will be quite as perfect on me as it is on you but it’s just stunningly beautiful.
Happy to hear the scent is a good thing for you, Celia! Hope it looks even lovelier on you!
Thank you, Celia!
The strong scent on my face would be a deal breaker for me. It looks lovely, though.
I wish it didn’t have the scent, because I do NOT like floral stuff 🙁
Strong perfumey scents on my face give me an allergic reaction. Itching, redness, etc. No fun.
Ouch 🙁
Beautiful!
Do you have a highlighter like this, Deborah?
It looks gorgeous. Would you recommend it for any skin tones, including fair skin tones?
I think it would work for fairer skin tones!
Thank you for your reply Christine.
I just ordered it 🙂
This is so interesting – it’s almost (aaaaalmooost) like a grey/taupe gold highlighter, somehow! If that makes sense. I think it looks really pretty on you! It’s a shame they made the scent super strong (I can live with such things, but it’s a divisive move, I feel), but I like how non-yellow it is!
Yes, especially since most Burberry products seem to be unscented, so it is a little bit of a boo!hiss! move. I’d rather unscented myself!
Wondering…. does it have a noticeable shimmer or glitter or is it just a sheen like tom ford shade and illuminate but obviously thats a cream highlight?
There are actual shimmer particles, but I don’t find them noticeable on the skin unless I’m looking in a magnifying mirror.
It looks lovely on you Christine, but I think it is a mistake to over-perfume a product. Gorgeous packaging.
Thank you, Genevieve! I wish it was scent-free.
Love your eye makeup here.
Thanks, Arabelle! 🙂
I’m always very afraid of the Temptalia Recommends banner, especially on something like this because I probably need to have it (even though I really don’t)
Me too! I am very wary to use it, lol!
The combo of its uniqueness, the packaging, being LE holiday, and your seal of approval makes me want it. But the beigey silvery tones might look more dull/sooty than brightening on my super pale skin, what do you think? It looks so fantastic on you, like, seriously made for you!
I think it would work, as I think it is a very blendable, glowy powder that’s less color and more shimmer/sheen.
Seriously gorgeous! I love it and the palette so much, I have a few Burberry things that while good, I don’t think were fantastic but these definitely look worth a splurge!
Hope you can check the powder out, Malia! Let me know if you end up with it!
Will do! 🙂
But it doesn’t look like june bride to me… That one is closer to albatross imo, and I buy a lot of asian products
Love it but since I just brought Becca’s Opal I don’t need it.
Phew!
Very pretty. It’s nice to see a gold highlighter that isn’t dominated by yellow tones. It’s surprising how hard antique gold highlighters are to find. I have Chanel’s Camelia de Plumes, so I’ll be passing, but this is a gorgeous alternative for warmer skin tones.
It is! And most of them are LE 🙁
Oh ..bad for my wallet! This is stunning on you! I have the Becca gold and I find it to look quite nice applied lightly and buffed/blended a little with a smaller brush. Also, have the CT filmstar..lovely. Becca opal..see a pattern here..addiction…:) But,this, although a ridiculous price, ugh! Any idea where it will be carried or is sold? I just saw that Nordstrom online says “unavailable”..is that sold out or not in yet? Not that i NEED this..but,it just bumped to the top of my makeup wants list for sure. Wow..the price though! I have nothing Burberry either. A Christmas gift to my self perhaps? Although, I said that was that Tom For “Velvet Orchid ” perfume I picked up amongst too much at the Sephora VIB sale. I too would love to see the entire “look” you have going on here and maybe some holiday looks for various occasions. You seem to be able to pull together a gorgeous, flattering ..but not over the top looks..wearable and pretty.
Wow, I guess it sold out at Nordstrom! It is available at Burberry for sure, and the press release says it’ll also be available at Saks. I haven’t seen it online at Saks yet (just checked).
It looks like it has almost a taupe base to it, which I think makes it appear rather cool-toned despite the gold shimmer. I’d probably like it better as an eyeshadow than a highlighter, although the strong fragrance would just make my eyes water.
So wish they had skipped the fragrance!
Oh Christine… Why did you have to give it such high rating… >_< I was hoping that I could avoid getting it, but seeing the swatches just makes me want it even more! And the eyeshadow palette too!
I just bought Bobbi Brown's Copper Diamond Shimmer Brick, do you think it's worth getting this Burberry highlighter too? Thanks!
Sorrrrry!
I think it would be – they are pretty different!
I had to double check and make sure it was limited edition before I went to check out
, this is so darn pretty I can’t stop thinking about it.
Aww!
I’m passing, looks ashy. 🙁
As someone with medium colored skin, definitely not ashy in the least bit – not really a white base 🙂
😀 It was my monitor! It’s gorgeous! I dig the brush as well! Looks natural and luminously perfect for the upcoming seasons! 😀
I feel like I need this lol. It’s stunning!
It is so pretty!
This look is stunning on you! All these colors are just the perfect colors for you!
Thank you, Rachael!
I got nude radiance instead! I was a bit surprised to not find a review on that here haha
Good purchase!
This is absolutely beautiful. Stocking stuffer for me? Yes please!
Hope you find it in your stocking!
Thank you so much for your great and so grateful review !!!!!!
I’m definitely loving this highlighter in all senses: gorgeous and relative uncommon color, very sophisticated packaging, amazing quality, and even price. I have already bought it, so that in a few days, it’ll be in my hands. I will use it at the New Year’s Eve party.
My pleasure!! 🙂
This is such a beautiful gold color! So pretty and subtle, not glaringly “gold” like others can be. But why, Burberry, did you have to scent it!? I fear my SUPER-sensitive skin won’t be able to handle that… I guess I just saved 70 dollars. :/ And it looks like I’m still on the hunt for a highlighter that’s subtle but not silver-y….
