Anastasia Maya Mia Eyeshadow Palette

Anastasia Maya Mia Eyeshadow Palette ($29.00 for 0.25 oz.) includes ten eyeshadows that range from light beige to deep brown to a pop of aqua and peach. Some shades are nice, other shades are a little powdery or dry, so it’s more of a mixed bag. There’s a dryness to a lot of Anastasia’s eyeshadows that keep them from feeling like a truly fantastic eyeshadow, but a good primer can help them go on more smoothly without having to really pack it on (to retain vibrancy). The Aqua shade was a total dud and shows up as a muddy mess on the lid without a sticky, white base. I am always surprised at how well they wear, despite the drier texture, though, even without primer (about eight hours for most shades). If you have a few of Anastasia’s palette, there tend to be a few repeats per palette.

Nude is a cool-toned, pink-tinted beige with a matte finish. It had good color payoff but was a smidgen powdery. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Deep Brown is a blackened brown with cool undertones and a matte finish. It was dry, slightly stiff, and difficult to blend on the skin. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Sienna is a muted, medium-dark copper-brown with warm, red undertones and a matte finish. It had nice pigmentation, and the texture was nicely balanced between soft and blendable. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Warm Taupe is a warm-toned, medium taupe brown with a matte finish. The texture was slightly powdery, but it was blendable and had good color payoff. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Vanilla is a light beige with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was somewhat powdery but had decent to good color payoff. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Aqua is a light-medium aqua blue with a pearly sheen. It was very sheer, powdery, and prone to fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Fresh Peach is a lightened, medium orange with a frosted finish. It had a drier, powdery feel but decent color payoff, though it needed to be patted and packed on to stay reasonably vibrant. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Glisten is a medium-dark copper orange with a sparkly, metallic finish. It had good pigmentation. The version in this palette performed better than the one in Amrezy. It wore well for eight hours before fading, and there was a little bit of fall out over time. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Caramel is a medium-dark, copper-brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had fairly good pigmentation, and the texture was soft and blendable, though a bit powdery. It lasted for eight hours before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Gold Bar is a yellowed gold with almost cool undertones and a metallic sheen. The texture was a little crumbly and dry, but it was blendable and had good pigmentation. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I really don’t understand the mixed review on this palette, I have no issues with the Aqua, or in fact any of the Anastasia shadows. I rate them up there with the quality of the Lorac Pro Palettes.

I purchased this palette back in summer and I was really sad that my palette didn’t have the ‘Get The Look’ cards included 🙁 Overall I feel that the mattes in this palette are way more superior to the shimmers. I love using Sienna and Caramel in the crease. The one that disappoints me the most is Glisten because it swatches so nicely but it does not show up on my lid AT ALL! I need to try it out with Fix Plus, but it’s weird because I never had a problem like this with shimmer shadows…

I tend to steer clear of orange-toned shadows and, having recently purchased both KvD Monarch and the new Vice3 (to say nothing of TF Chocolate Bar and so many other palettes that have warmer shades than my “comfort zone” compels me to use), this would be an easy one for me to skip, even if the quality was A+.

I just bought this yesterday to give to my daughter for christmas. It’s a shame the aqua got such a poor grade. That was my main reason for getting it. I think overall it’s still looks like a good pallet for a makeup beginner.

I bought this as an impulse buy looking at all the youtube bloggers saying how wonderful this palette was. It is nice, and I really like it a lot. I use this with a primer and I really do like it. Some eyeshadows are a bit dry but that’s okay.

There are some pretty shades here, but like Mariella, I’ve purchased quite a few “warmer” neutral palettes lately (MAC Gravitas, UD Vice 3, tarte Holiday set, KvD Monarch…), plus I’m about to pull the trigger on bothe MAC 15-pan neutral palettes, so this is a definite skip.

I’ve been waiting with baited breath for your review on this Christine, as I just wasn’t sure it was something I would use. Soooo glad I waited! The aqua had me mesmerized … Although the color would look blah on me. Glad it’s not a must have…you saved me $$$ to spend on another item- on another day!

I wanted both this & the Tamana but picked up this 1st (mainly cuz it had my name) & the Mac Amorous Adventure a few months bk. I really like them & I didn’t have a problem with the aqua but I also use a primer & if I remember I think you said in the past that you don’t for testing, so that could be it.

This is…a very warm palette! 😀 The aqua is an embarrassment, but some of the other colours are interesting – the gold is almost what I’d call a ‘butter’ gold – it seems very bright and pale yellow, which I somehow feel like I haven’t seen much of, next to all the white golds and antique golds.

After re-reading that last statement, I feel that I may either think too much about eyeshadow colours, or not enough… 😛

The shadows have been touch-and-go for me, but I am all kinds of obsessed with the little, fluffy end of the double-ended brush that’s included in the palette. It is so perfect for deepening the crease on my semi-hooded, very-prominent-browbone eye! Christine, can you think of a standalone brush that is similar in size and shape? I have been searching everywhere.
