Urban Decay Naked Vault for Holiday 2014

Urban Decay Naked Vault
Urban Decay Naked Vault

And in case you were wondering, the value of the products in the set add up to: $162 of eyeshadow palettes, $48 worth of eyeliners, $60 worth of lipglosses, and $90 worth of cheek palettes, which adds up for a total value of $360. It’s a shame that the Naked1 and Naked2 Basics were included as a better inclusion (and I probably would said to add Naked Revolution Lipstick as well). Of course, in a dream world, I think it would have been cool to release a vault of their Revolution Lipsticks (not just a mini set of six).

Naked Vault ($280.00) (Limited Edition)

Explore a range of neutral shades for eyes, cheeks, and lips with this fully-loaded set. Ultraluxe and limited-edition, it features a dozen of Urban Decay’s most-coveted Naked products. The bestselling Naked, Naked 2, and Naked 3 eye color palettes feature bronze, taupe, and rose shades in an wide range of textures—along with three coordinating 24/7 Glide-On Double-Ended Eye Pencils. Every shade in the Naked palettes features Urban Decay’s Pigment Infusion System™, a proprietary blend of ingredients that gives each shade its stay-put, velvety texture, rich color, and blendability. The creamy formulas of the award-winning 24/7 Glide-On eye pencils allows you to draw color on smoothly, and it dries down to leave a long-lasting finish. Naked Flushed features Urban Decay’s micronized, jet-milled formula with a luxe, ultralight texture. Naked lip gloss is laced with ingredients that are good for your skin, including Hyaluronic Filling Spheres™, vitamin E, avocado oil, and shea butter which hydrate and condition lips—and the infusion of rosehip seed oil provides an extra dose of vitamins, including vitamins A and C.

This is made for a person like me who has a single ud Eyeshadow lurking about somewhere and a liner set but this is such an investment. I did so much research on these Eyeshadows (sighing over swatches) and ended up with a LORAC Pro instead so… Dunno.

StrangeOne Avatar

Okay, it’s definitely a no from my side now. If they had just swapped the glosses for the revolution lipsticks then maybe I would have considered this more. I’m not too keen on the flushed sets either.

Celia Avatar

This release strikes me as so odd. The Basics palettes seemed like a no-brainer inclusion in this. The Flushed Palettes are all sort of similar and the matte shades would be a good addition here. On top of that, while it’s a nice collector’s edition for those who want it, it seems like a delayed reaction. A lot of people who love Naked will already have some of the palettes (not even a huge Naked line fan myself here but I own 2 and 3 and like them quite a bit). And those who don’t have any of the Naked sets may not want the redundancy between 1, 2, and the Flushed palettes. Some interesting tweaks could be made. Though I hope it makes some collectors very happy!

Lydia Avatar

It’s hard for me to imagine that this will sell very well. It seems like anyone who is interested in the Naked line and has $280 to drop will already have at least one (likely more) of the products represented – drastically decreasing the appeal. I could be wrong, of course! Just seems like an odd move.

Kimmy Avatar

OMG – its REAL! Lol. I saw someone post this on twitter the other day but they weren’t sure if it was legit. I thought – oh how perfect! I don’t own any of the naked palettes – not any. I must have known in the back of my mind that they’d be releasing something like this, lol. $280 is a little steep – but as a really extravagant holiday gift to myself, maybe? 🙂

Sylirael Avatar

As a UD fan, the *idea* of this is kind of awesome at first glance. 😉 Having said that, the only things I’d really get out of it would be the Naked 3, the double ended pencils and the glosses. I have Naked 2 and Naked 1 doesn’t really float my boat – neither do bronzers and highlighters, really, so the flushed palettes are a shrug as well!

For the price, the set might be good for splitting up and gifting, but I don’t recall the Naked + Flushed palettes being that awesome that I’d gift them. Hm.

TOTALLY agree that they should have put the Basics palettes in, and the Naked lipsticks too. If it had been: Naked 1, 2, 3 (I could gift 1 and 2 with a clear conscience, LOL!), the pencils, the lipsticks, the glosses and the Basics (could gift Basics 1 and the nude lipstick happily), then it would have been something for me to consider.

Woah nelly! That’s the mother load right there…but not sure how much of that I’d really use. Damn me for picking this moment to be sensible.

Mariella Avatar

Pretty nice, I guess, but is there anyone who’d splash out this amount of $$$ who doesn’t ALREADY have at least 2 or 3 of the items in this “vault”? I suppose if you have a lot of friends or family who are makeup junkies, it would be great to buy it and split it up amongst them but most of the people I know aren’t all that into makeup and those that are are sort of in the same boat as me and I wouldn’t presume to buy them makeup. Still, pretty nice!

Denise Avatar

I already have all three Naked palettes. Pretty sure most people who love UD enough to shell out $280 in one go probably already own a lot of what is in this. Who is the target market, I wonder?

Emma Avatar

I think it’s kind of problematic to release a vault like this. Being honest, anyone who is willing to buy a $280 UD set probably already has at least one Naked palette. And it seems a little redundant to buy a massive set like this if you’re someone like me who already owns half of it. I agree with Christine here: a lipstick vault would have been better, or maybe just the Flush palettes as a set? All in all, beautiful box but a hard pass from me.

Evelyn Avatar

I wish they would revamp the packaging of Naked 1 already to match the others; then I might consider getting it. Including the Naked Flush palettes makes this vault instantly unattractive to me, though.

Rachel R. Avatar

I’m not terribly crazy about the Flushed I have, so I wouldn’t get it on that count. I have both the Naked Basics, but none of the regular 3 palettes. I think this is great for someone who loves neutrals and/or doesn’t have much Urban Decay. Or to split up into separate gifts. If you really did want everything, it’s a decent deal.

Pami Avatar

That would make an impressive gift for someone who doesn’t have those products, but I’m really surprised they left out the Naked Basics palettes, and the Naked lipsticks. If they are going to do eyes and lips, why not all of them.

If they were concerned about the price point, they could have left out the Naked Flushed palettes. Still, it made me say wow! when I saw it.

While we’re on the topic, I wish they would come out with a Naked Basics3 palette. I’d love to have the mattes in those shades!

Genevieve Avatar

I agree Pami, for those of us who are cool-toned, a really great cool toned palette would be worthwhile. Naked 2 was really neutral – mostly warm, some cool toned colours. But not enough.

Staci Avatar

I imagine anyone who might be interested in this will, like me, already own too much of it to justify getting it. I have the three naked pallets and a naked flushed. It’s a nice set. I just really wonder about who’s buying it.

Carrie Avatar

At this point I can’t see someone who was interested in the Naked line not have enough of the items on their own to make this worth while (unless you were planning on gifting one of the palettes). And even then all the palettes (eyeshadow and flushed) have so much overlap that it’s not even that great a value.

It’s like okay, UD, we get it. Naked. Naked. Naked.

Naked.

UD Holiday has become so disappointing. 🙁 As a brand they’re starting to fall by the wayside for me. I feel like they’re just coasting on Naked at this point -even as far as Eyeliners go there are too many other good brands out there to make this too appealing.

Carrie Avatar

biiiiiig pass from me. i have all the palettes already, i only like one of the flushed palettes, are the glosses aren’t for me. i want the pencils but i can get them separately.

keisha mello Avatar

My Christmas gift this year and if that fails my gift to myself!!! This is a beautiful collection of UD nakedness and I can’t wait to have it! I am a huge UD fan and a bigger UD naked fan eyeshadow like butter yum yum give me sum! Thanks Urban Decay makers this will make many people ecstatic!!

candleashes Avatar

Already own Naked 3 and plenty of the liners, and the cheek palettes and glosses don’t hold that much interest for me. Agree that lipstick/ basics palettes would have been nice to have in this set. Will probably just get Naked 1 and/or 2 palettes and a lipstick or two – still cheaper than getting the set even without any discount. The timing for this is odd. I imagine very few people want the Naked line that bad, have this much money to spend, and yet don’t have any of these items

Phoebe Avatar

I’m interested in the palettes, but I don’t even have ONE Naked product. So I guess I am the anomaly everyone’s talking about.

That said, I see a LOT of moms/grandmas buying this for their daughters/granddaughters for Christmas. It’s a great gift for someone who is relatively new to makeup, but I think it will ultimately be a great gift from a gift giver’s perspective. You know there are moms/grandmas out there who know their gift recipient really likes makeup and hear that this set is good quality. They don’t know what else to get their recipient, and they know this will at least have good wow factor.

Megan Avatar

I just ordered this set – I think it was made for me! I was living in a country for many years where UD isn’t sold. Then the Naked 1, 2, and 3 palettes all came out, and I just couldn’t decide which one I wanted- let me tell you, I read so many reviews and looked at all these swatches and just got overwhelemed, and didn’t get any of them. The blushes all look pretty much alike, but I plan on stashing on in my gym bag, one at work, and one at home, so I’m not all that bothered. I love UD eyeliners (side note: eyeliners really have improved over the last 5 years or so…much better textures across the industry). Never tried the glosses- my guess is that they are pretty much just like every gloss out there. Agree that those Revloution lipsticks are great!

Erin Avatar

I agree that this is an odd vault offering since the average UD fanatic already has a few of the products in it. I’d much prefer the 2013 liner vault though it was too expensive for me to get then and I’d probably hesitate to get it now, too because of sheer price.

Here’s my breakdown on purchasability of this one for me:

I already own Naked 3 and 2 of the Naked Flushed palettes. I like the Naked 3 enough that I wouldn’t mind having a second for when I run out of my current palette or to gift and while I’m still getting used to the Flushed palettes I only picked up recently I could pretty easily gift those 2 I already have to friends and family. I have been eyeing the Naked liners and glosses as well as Naked 1 and 2 and the 3rd Flushed palette anyway so it’s actually not a bad deal for me to round out my collection.

I did the math and with the 10% discount I have from Sephora Memory Match, the cost of the set would be about the cost of those products I don’t already have. With my Ulta 20% off coupon it should be about $20 cheaper than the full price of the stuff I don’t have if Ulta gets it before the 20% expires… No matter which retailer I get it from it’s a good deal for me if I want all of this. I’d get 2 flushed palettes and a Naked 3 for free essentially which could be gifted.

I guess I have to decide if I want the products together now or if I’d rather buy ’em piecemeal later and skip the giftables. It’d be a no brainer if I hadn’t already dropped almost $200 during their friends and fanatics sale but my wallet is already hurting from that and the Vice LTD is supposed to release for holiday and I definitely want that one. Decisions, decisions!

Megan Avatar

When I first saw this I instantly thought, “I NEED this!” but after looking at it more closely I think I would regret it. The only thing I in the vault I have is Naked 2 and I don’t use it much. I want Naked 3 and the Streak Flushed but that’s really it. With $280 I could buy the 2 UD items I want and the Hourglass blush and powder palettes and still have money left over for 2 or 3 Revolution lippies!

Genevieve Avatar

It is an interesting concept. I think if you were a Naked fan you would have some or all of these Naked palettes anyway. If you haven’t got a Naked palette, then this money is a huge investment for something you may not end up liking or using as much as you thought you would. It would have been better if they included a Vice, Vegan or Ammo palette in there instead of the Naked eyeshadow palettes. I am not quite sure why you would have 3 blushes…..

Dani Avatar

It would be really awesome to get this as a gift but from a business perspective, I think they were hella late releasing this. So many people already own Naked palettes, 1,2, and 3… plus the Flushed palettes aren’t anything to write home about.

Jenn Avatar

I agree this is a weird release, seeing as most people probably have a few of the Naked palette’s already, and the 3 blush palette’s are..meh…especially since the only real difference in them is the blush color. Including the Naked Basics would be way better IMO, as well as lipsticks instead of glosses. However, it must have done well in sales because it was on Sephora’s site earlier for sale and now it’s completely gone off the site. Strange. I did the math and if you can use a 20% off at some point or another, you can get all these items for almost the same price as the vault(within a few dollar range).

omg. omg. omg. omg. **HYPERVENTILATES**
ive actually never owned a NAKED anything from UD. i recently borrowed my friend’s naked 2 to do my eyes at work and was blown away. i guess most of my life (that involved makeup) ive never done “natural” or “subtle” very much. just didnt appeal to me. but ive been branching out more in the past few years and now can nail a subtle eye. so i basically need this because it will help me grow! or something. i need to justify spending almost $300 on a bunch of more subtle stuff.

AmyBS Avatar

I briefly thought about getting this with a 20% coupon, so it would be $224.00 I don’t have any of the Naked palettes. But it’s an awful lot to shell out at once for something I don’t even know if I’ll like it. Most reviews I’ve seen, people have a favorite version 1, 2 or 3. So it makes me think I might end up loving one of them, but not all 3. And the glosses and Flushed items don’t interest me. So it’s definitely a no-go for me.

Lotus Avatar

Blah.. Urban Decay is decaying.. I believe their naked stance was to incorporate more buyers who are afraid of colors… But then everyone else had to nude them up, too! UD is good at making people wait, and making money. What about an iconic collection featuring the best of their limited sets as well as things from them that have been revolutionary? Sadly, most have these now.. But they peddle them for more money. 🙁 Poor UD needs a hug! 😛
