It’s actually not a bad price, $5.60 a shadow…originally I believe it was supposed to be $120. For full MAC shadows that is a pretty good deal. It is slightly expensive all at once…but imagine buying them separately…

Elle Avatar

I wish I could say this looked interesting (I like Brooke) but it looks just bland to me…Sadly not even the package is exciting….Maybe the swatches will convince me but for now it’s a miss for me.

Dusty Avatar

Everyone is excited for Rocky Horror… I couldn’t give a rat’s patootie (its this years Rick Baker IMO). I’ve been excited for this one for MONTHS! I will be so sad if it sucks 🙁 Hehe Squee! So excited!!!

Dian Avatar

I am really loving that US price for the Gravitas palette… 85 Dollars?! Here in the Netherlands it will be 130 euros, which is about 168 dollars…. Too bad the US website of Mac doesn’t ship to the Netherlands. I really want it if I could get it for 85, but for 168, not so much….

Dian Avatar

Indeed! Especially with Mac, it’s just insane, about double the price on that Gravitas palette. I would love to get it for 85 dollars, even for 100, but I simply refuse to pay double simply because I don’t live in the US….

Helene Avatar

Oh, I know this feeling all too well. I’m slightly envious every time I see how much make up is in the USA. I’m one of these days going to make a short list just to compare.
Even drugstore brands ar on teh expensive side here.

Sylirael Avatar

LOL, I was in the pharmacy just yesterday, and the new Revlon Moisture Stain gloss things have arrived – at $30 each! 😀 Revlon managed to hold it together with the matte and lacquer balms ($18 each), but they’ve jumped the shark on this latest release…

MakeupTray Avatar

So, the colors that are not marked permanent are LE? Isn’t Antiqued also perm? I am confused why she/they put Mac’s popular perm colors in the palette?
This is a really pretty collection though

Sarah Avatar

I’ve heard so many different price points regarding the Gravitas palette! The one Canadian magazine I read listed it as around $130! I wonder why there is such confusion. Nevertheless, it’s listed on the website (and here) as $102 so I’m thankful for that (although I’m debating purchasing from the US site with that price differential…) Oh the woes of being Canadian

Zainab Avatar

I am definitely getting that palette now, since it includes all the permanent MAC shades I’ve been eyeing (except Rule). Even if the price is fairly high here it will almost certainly cost less than getting those individually.

I actually really love how the products have been photographed for this collection, it looks so chic and tranquil, and really 80s (but the classy 80s not the bad taste 80s).

Mariella Avatar

Is it just me or does Brooke look a heck of a lot like Maria Shriver??? Especially in the right hand pic at the top of the page…

Lots of oranges and corals in this collection – SO not my colours. And the eye shadow palette – I already own several of them so even if the price weren’t insultingly inflated for Canada (hello, MAC – where exactly did you get your start and where is your manufacturing facility???), it would be a no-go for me. Passing on this collection but I am happy to see once again a woman who isn’t barely out of her teens as the face of a collection.

Gina Avatar

Christine, I hope you will be reviewing the eyeshadow palette. I’ve been looking for a good not Naked one for awhile now. Had been hoping for vice 3 til your review.

CatBelly Avatar

There’s something fake about the second photo of Brooke Shields on the right. It looks photoshopped or else was resized to narrow her cheeks and nose.

majorly: i noticed that before the m/u. it’s the equivalent of the model with the outrageously skinny arms… makes her look ill or starved + I suspect she’s neither, just soignee + toned. She remains drop dead gorgeous. Does a stand-alone store get a promo/demo prior to release? This MAC release thing tires me out. I get the LE concept, but the reality is fairly insane. Is the thing to do: make a fake cart, save it, then replace that cart with your selections the minute the thing drops? Lovin’ those l/s, though, both.

Melissa Avatar

I saw this collection when I was in MAC store last Sunday. It is really stunning. The eyeshadow palette is gorgeous, burgundy lipstick beautiful perfect for fall and the bronzing powder really good too. I can’t wait to buy those three.

impekkable Avatar

I’ve been waiting for this ever since I saw pictures of the gravitas palette a few weeks ago.
Frankly, I didn’t give much thought to the prettiness of the packaging as I was concerned with the shades themselves, the only time I found the packaging a bit problematic was when I felt I couldn’t see one eyeshadow shade because of that orange square.
The orange square seems a bit too large, a smaller icon would have worked better, I feel.

Having a complete day and night look in a palette at this price point is an attractive idea but the MAC site states that these are cool shadows which is the only thing worrying me as I prefer warm shades. But I am glad to see so many permanent shadows which are well reviewed, giving more confidence in the quality of the palette, I think it also helps with palette sales at times, although some people (those plush with mac shadows) may avoid a palette of shades they already have.

I wanted to start my MAC collection with one or two 4-pan custom palettes, which are nearly $50, so I think this is good value if I can get even half the shades close to what I would have liked for my custom palettes. Antiqued is one and Soft brown was an option among a few browns. I would have liked Expensive pink and Carbon though I might not have bought them individually.
I’m hoping Clove, Pepper and Luscious and Plummed will perform well.
If that happens, it makes the palette a good value and I might just get away with buying none or one 4-pan with a couple of warm browns and burgundies.

moushka26 Avatar

Orange, or any shade thereof, is a warm colour, so why MAC would claim these are cool colours I don’t know. Peach, yellow and gold are also warm. Burgundies are usually cool but some have a rust base which makes them warm. My monitor reads warm so I can’t be sure from the photos. Taupes are cool by definition – if they are warm, they become beiges. It seems to me most so-called experts can’t tell the difference between warm and cool these days. Greys and blacks can be warm or cool depending on the amount of yellow or blue in them. “Trusted Instinct” looks cool, “Mortal” warm. I don’t think the oranges flatter Brooke. She’s stunning but cool colours suit her better. I hope the quality of the pigments is better than the packaging – it really looks cheap to me.

Genna Avatar

I really love the Gravitas palette, but I already own all of the permanent colors in it- so it would be $85 for essentially 9 shadows… Not really sure it’s worth it, I’ll just have to wait for the swatches to see if anything jumps out at me

Helene Avatar

I hope you get these so you can swatch this collection. I like the Graviatas palette, and I think I only have two of the eyeshadows in it. The Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow Palette’s also look interesting, but with MAC you never know. I also like the Gospel lipstick.

MichelleChefNYC Avatar

Products look nice, although I am not feeling that matte silver packaging… but what an odd collaboration… aside from selling Lazy-Boy furniture, you haven’t really hear much of relevance from Brooke Shields in many years… Although, I have always liked her… she went to my highschool lol

Andrea Avatar

Oh, the Gravitas palette! I was excited about this but I’m a little put off that it includes so many of MAC’s best selling and permanent shades that I already have. I’m not crazy about the gray color of the packaging either. For some reason, it looks cheap.

MakeupTray Avatar

I swatched these today if anyone is curious. trusted instinct swatched beautifully but Mortal did not. Skip mortal and get trusted instead.
The cream blushes were a bit on the bright side. Glosses are gorgeous.
All in all, you can skip this collection. There is nothing unique about it but it is very nice.

Christine, do you know if the bronzer is online only? That was the only item Macy’s didn’;t have and manager said it might be online only.

Rachel P. Avatar

I adore Brooke Shields! However, of the products I would want in this collection, the colors are not anything I’m particularly lusting after… wish I was more interested in the shades available! Cool collab though, love Brooke forever!
