What do you think the next big trend in nail polish will be?

I’ve been seeing a lot of metallics (with the holidays around the corner, it makes sense), more “pretty ugly” colors that are muted/murky/dirty with more cream finishes, and then more pearl/duochrome kind of finishes.

I’m hoping the next trend will be ‘simple’ and classic. I’m rather tired of the nail art. Rhinestones, multicolored, stripes, etc. I’m done with it. I want basics and classics back.

I want to see more multi-coloured micro glitters – full coverage in a sheer base, only 1 coat needed (over a complementary base colour if desired) – navy, aqua, gold and green for a rich aquatic look; purple, pink, red and indigo for a gorgeous royal shade; black, silver, periwinkle and cobalt for a classy charcoal blue; red, gold, copper and orange for a spicy hot pumpkin colour; khaki, silver, fuchsia and bronze for a crazy cool camouflage blend.

Perfect for Hallowe’en!

After all the nailart that’s been going around the past few seasons, I bet (and hope!) polishes will move towards fancy finishes, like multicromes and holos, that are interesting without needing scotch tape and a dotting tool. More and more niche brands have been coming out with those finishes but the main stream ones have always lagged behind in performance and variety. I bet that will change.

Definitely browns and dusty roses. The 90s are coming back around. I can see clean simple nails becoming the thing over fancy ombre and sequins etc… long lasting manicures too over acrylics.

Maybe Velvet or Hologram (again) for the holidays. If you have not checked them out yet, take a look at China Glaze fall ’14 “All Aboard” collection. It has some gorgeous smoky jewel tone creams in port, purple, teal, chocolate, navy, as well as a few murky metallics and a bronzy duo chrome also a couple reds. Just what you want to wear when the seasons and wardrobes begin to change! I couldn’t resist them, bought 7 out of maybe 11 — so cheap at Sally’s.

Plain, pale neutral crèmes and sheers: whites, beiges and tans, greiges, pale pinks of every hue, lavender. And deep reds, almost black crèmes.

I think the muddy browns, purples, greys, reds and black will be on the way out. They are so depressing. I’m looking for opaque cream pastels and pearl shades in all colors.

I would love to see classic short, dark, vampy reds, with exposed half moons at the cuticle like the trend was in the 20’s and 30’s. I am so over the glitter and over sized chunks. I just don’t like the feel of chunky metallic glitters on my nails, and they seem to be so very high maintenance. No matter how many coats of top coat I apply, there always seems to be chunk that snags on something and once it gets pulled loose, there goes the whole manicure. I am a retired nail tech, and after wearing acrylics for almost 20 years, I am more into a low maintenance manicure. I want to spend time on other things, and having shorter, natural nails with a pretty dark fall inspired cream is working really well for me right now. I have been having a love affair with oxsblood colored polishes, and it is much less work. I hope duochromes and jellies still stay trendy for spring and summer of ’15, but I adore vampy colors in the fall and winter seasons.

I feel ready for autumnal colours, cremes, someone mentioned washed out pastels I think. I think we’ll see the jewel tones, plums, dirty blues and browns – at least I hope that’s what we’ll see:) I’m done with glitter and pinks and corals.

I’ll be here in the corner hoping that flakies become an easier material to source, and there are tons of them, in various colors, made by everybody.

I love flakie glitter so much.

I’d love to see “dirty pastels,” those soft, pastels with a bit of grey in them to make them more modern and sophisticated instead of teeny-bopper-like. Something like that would be duly welcomed and year-round appropriate.

“trends in nailpolish” has to be one of my pet peeves…because a lot of times it means some unexplainable fad like shatters, rough textures and holographic glitter. I’d rather follow my own taste and wear what appeals to me…regardless of the trend…
