The Scarlet Season: Lancome Retro Rouge Lipstick

Lancome Retro Rouge Color Design Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a creamy, opaque shade that gives you full coverage in just one swipe. It’s a bold, bright cheery red with just a touch of pink. It has a lovely glossy sheen with a smidgen of shimmer sprinkled throughout. It really gave my lips a juicy look–that’s the best description I could think of–and it felt incredibly weightless. I found it wore well and got about four to five hours of wear without much fuss, too.  I think what surprised me about this particular formula and lipstick was just how rich in color and high the pigmentation was–I just wasn’t expecting it to be so true-to-word.

What about you? Would you wear this red?

The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

I bought that color not long ago. It’s very holiday-esque to me…due to the shimmer part of it. It’s a really cute red. You should try to get your hands on Berry Sensual Color Design. It’s one of my fave reds.

christine, please could you suggest a red lipstick that has more of an orange tone to it as i think these go better with blue eyes whereas true reds go with brown eyes. i am looking for a great reddy-orange lipstick… do you know of any brands that do a high pigmented one? Thanks x

I have that shade,I never end up wearing it, it always seems to lose out to one of my other reds (I have about 20 different shades. I ordered from the Lancome website, to be honest I was disappointed when I opened it, I expected it to be a little more of a true red–it runs a little orange for my skin tone.

I love this color, it looks like it’s glowing! I am very pale with dark brown hair and green eyes, do you think this would complement my skin tone or should I pick another color?

I love this color. I’ve purchased it twice. I love that it has a little pink in it. I’ve had trouble finding it lately and someone at Macy’s today told me that the Color Design colors are being discontinued. I hope this isn’t true because it’s probably my second favorite color of all time. I adore a beautiful bright red mouth.
