Do you think you'll ever fall out of love with makeup?

Do you think you’ll ever fall out of love with makeup? Share!

I don’t think so! I think it is both an exercise in creativity as well as a way to add a little extra confidence on a day when you’re not feeling your best. I could see being more or less “into it” in regards to caring or watching about new products vs. just using what you have and love over time, though (assuming I no longer blogged).

Agreed, I don’t think so either, but I definitely go through phases. Sometimes I feel like nobody’s putting out anything that I really like, and it’s like being in a total slump. But sometimes there’s just tons of stuff to get excited about, which completely rekindles my love for makeup (e.g. the fact that I stayed up to place a big Charlotte Tilbury order, which can’t come soon enough)!

Pam Avatar

Never! Make up gives me that little confidence boost and it’s almost like meditation for me in the morning. If I don’t like a new product based on swatches/reviews, I won’t buy it. I’m not about the hype of products much (even though I got suck ed into the TF negligee lippy). Lol. But I go in stages of what I’m on the hunt for. Lately it’s been trying to find the perfect lipstick, next month it could be blushes or foundations I’d like to try. 🙂 Make up will ALWAYS be my go to buys. ^_^

I don’t think so. It’s a little time-consuming, and I’m very lazy, so I could get bored of it. But, on the other hand, when you get used to look better it’s difficult to go out with no makeup on.

Georgina Avatar

I think I could have a smaller collection in the future if I have children and may not have as much time to play with makeup, but I will always enjoy the ritual of applying makeup and using it to enhance different features.

Jennifer Avatar

Probably not totally. There have definitely been times in my past (and probably times in my future) where my priorities have shifted and makeup became a “special occasion” rather then an “everyday” thing. The amount of time each morning I can spend painting my face is also always in flux. But fall out of love with make up forever? I doubt it.

helen Avatar

Let me just say that i am much older than you, Christine and i find my interest in make-up only intensifies. Especially with the new formulations, textures and brands that introduce themselves all the time.
Make-up is way too much fun (and changes just enough) to keep it interesting and fun.

Michelle Avatar

NEVER. My dear mom loved her makeup and even when she was in hospital in her last months loved to have her nails done and had to have her lipstick on. That’s me!! I love makeup, I have all my life and I know I always will. 🙂

I don’t know if I could say I love make-up any less, but as my financial responsibilities have grown, other expenses have definitely taken precedence. There are just things I want more.

That said when a new make-up product or trend catches my eye, I make a little room in the budget to give it a shot.

Mariella Avatar

Not a chance. I can see myself at 80 still loving the whole process (I just hope I don’t end up one of those old ladies you see who look a bit much, with brilliant orange hair and red lipstick that has bled into the lines around their mouths but I still have to hand it to those women – they’re not giving up and given the choice between giving in entirely and “mutton dressed as lamb”, I honestly think I’d take the latter….though I hope to aim for the middle ground, a la Judy Dench, Helen Mirren, etc.)

Susan Avatar

Im 60 now, I have always loved skincare and makeup, its my guilty pleasure. I don’t go all out everyday, but I always wash, use serum, moisturizer and tinted moisturizer with a little blush, shadow and gloss everyday. I love seeing the new trends in makeup and nails, I cant see ever changing, its just my guilty pleasure and love an organized makeup drawer with new makeup!!!

Eileen Avatar

I’m 70. I started wearing a bit of lipstick and mascara for special occasions when I was 13 and began wearing makeup on a regular basis when I was 15. In all those years, I have never tired of makeup. There’s always something new to try and, of course, the trends keep changing. When the trends suit me, I purchase a lot; when they don’t, I let them pass. I’ve never lost my interest in makeup, though. It’s really fun now, at my age, to look back at pictures of makeup from the late 50’s, the 60’s, the 70’s, etc. and see how the different eras have interpreted beauty.

Zia Avatar

I guess anything is possible, but it’s hard to imagine because I really really enjoy putting on makeup and creating looks, whether they are bold or more understated. I think I’m getting closer to the point where I won’t buy as much new makeup, because my collection is pretty massive as is and there will be other priorities for my budget, but I think I’ll always like makeup. I think looking back on the last several years, as a big girl, shopping for makeup filled a void when clothes shopping became such a heartbreaking experience. Makeup allowed me to feel like a woman, and you don’t have to see if the size fits, so it never has let me down in that regard. Part of wonders if I ever succeed in losing weight, maybe my interest in makeup will wane, just because it will go back to clothes and fashion, but I don’t think so. I like to think it will always be a hobby of mine.

Jolie Avatar

I don’t think I will ever permanently fall out of love with make up as it is my creative outlet, however I do go through phases. Like this past summer, I barely wore make up (>15 times the past four months). The condition of my skin will determine whether or not I will put make up on.

Erica Avatar

I’m 51 and have loved makeup since I received a Barbie makeup head with the hair rollers and “makeup” accessories when I was 7. I’ve had lapses when I was too busy to keep up with current trends, but now with social media that will never happen again! The young adults in my life keep me on point too. The makeup love evolves, but will never end.

Carla Avatar

I think it’s VERY unlikely that I’ll ever lose interest in/give up makeup entirely, but I do find that as I get older (I just turned 50), I think I actually look best with less.
For example, I’m now willing to actually leave the house wearing nothing on my face except [sunscreen] concealer, powder, mascara, and lip gloss. That would have been unthinkable when I was 25.

MizLottie Avatar

Nope, never. I’m 53 and just spent $170 on a bunch of cool Inglot shadows & lippies, the newest Urban Decay mini Naked palette and some MAC foundation yesterday. My first job was selling cosmetics and the love has never left.

kellly Avatar

oh, goodness, no! I am much too vain and concerned about my appearance and looking nice and trying to look my best. I don’t think I look my best without makeup on. I’m not in my 20s any more and need help! Cosmetics have been getting better and better over time and I really don’t foresee a time when I would lose all interest in trying to make myself look better.

Tangie W Avatar

I love all things beauty. But I have gone through dry spells with makeup. What I will say is that I’m more particular in what makeup I purchase as to when I first started and would buy everything. As much as I love makeup I no it’s a want more than a need so I can’t say what will happen in the future. But for now I enjoy it very much!!!

Judy H. Avatar

I think I would never fall out of love with makeup, but I can see it playing not as much of a major part in my grooming in my later years. I think probably then, I might be just a mascara, quick cheek, quick lip girl. I doubt if I’ll be as concerned with makeup trends and probably just wear a color that I think looks good on me.

May Avatar

I for sure will never fall out of love with makeup. As someone who likes to draw and paint, this is just another form of creative expression for me. Also, it’s very therapeutic to set aside time to get ready for your day. You get to recreate yourself everyday, while knowing that every choice going into your look was a personal one. And so many new products to try!

Amy Avatar

I don’t think so. I am 50 years old and have loved makeup for as long as I can remember. Didn’t help my addiction at a young age when my mom started selling Avon!! I have tried to breakup with makeup but I can’t. I love it and love looking at it. Even when I don’t wear it for months, I still love to know what’s new.

Charlie Avatar

I doubt it, since I feel so pretty with it on. It’s a huge confidence boost. And if I don’t need that extra feeling pretty, my $35 lipsticks will be used even less frequently than they already are and that’s a sad waste of money. I guess I can always eat my lipstick collection.

Brittany Avatar

I doubt it! I once had a phase in high school when I wore no makeup at all for a year or two, but it was out of sheer laziness. Once I started getting back into makeup, I got INTO it and learned a ton of cool things and just got hooked. I’m like that with lots of hobbies. Once I stopped collecting jewelry, I filled the void with makeup and that hasn’t dwindled since. :p

Myra Avatar

I’ve used makeup since I was 13 – and only up until 2010, I’d never played with color (I’m 41 now). My first big palette was a BH Cosmetics 88 Color – and I had a heyday with that palette! My second “real” palette wa Naked 2, and I used that exclusively for almost a year! My third palette was the Lorac Unzipped Palette and then – I became hooked. 73 eyeshadow palettes later, I found colors that I love and work with my eyes (brown, grey and green) and skin tone (tan). I LOVE COLOR! My first MAC lipstick was Viva Glam 5, a beloved neutral nude. Now, 50 lipsticks later, my FAVE is Heroine…pure color loveliness :). I’m pretty sure I won’t go as bananas shopping and obsessing as I have in the last year, but I believe I will love color cosmetics forever.

Samantha Avatar

I do not think that I will ever fall out of love with makeup. With that said, I think that the relationship I hsve with makeup will likely change. What looks good on me now at age 27 will not always look good on me. Skincare will probably take the front seat soon (as in it already is). I want to keep my skin soft, supple, and wrinkle free, so even that is working with makeup and not against it. I have a lifelong fascination with makeup (and clothes).

Samantha Avatar

I honstley don’t think so, I am obsessed with anything and everything related to beauty. It’s just one of the many perks of being a woman. Like you said it can give you a confidence boost on a gloomy day r it can just be a creative form of expression!

keisha Avatar

Nope. Given, sometimes i may not wear it for whatever reason, I still love makeup, and believe I always will. I love to collect pretty makeup. And to be honest, when i do put it on, that act of putting it on actual calms me.

Sarah Avatar

Never. It will change, but always be a part of who I am. Taking care of my skin is a calming ritual and the colors and textures of make up are inspiring.

annamaria Avatar

I’ve thought I could over the last year or two — since my father passed away and I’ve been sadder. Instead of makeup lifting me up and giving me joy like it always has, it seemed more time consuming and less joyous. I still have loved makeup (or really liked it), but I didn’t feel “in love” with it. But then, I decided to break up my routine and use a blush and eyeliner, etc. from my stash I haven’t used for a while, and the end result made me feel better about myself and better in general. So I realized, thankfully, that I don’t think I’ll ever fall out of love with makeup. 🙂

Karen Avatar

Absolutely agreed. I’ve been buying, selling and using makeup since high school so I doubt I’d give it up. The role of makeup has changed as I’ve gotten older though. It uses to be I bought and used it more frequently to get a certain glam as opposed to now it’s more about looking more polished so even if I buy more it’s used more sparingly.

Diane Avatar

Never, I am always looking for products that help with my dryness or at least ones that don’t enhance it until I find “the one” foundation for me. I don’t wear makeup daily but when I am going out I love trying new looks and products, I have so many eye shadows and lipsticks!!

Elizabeth Avatar

No, I don’t think I would ever fall out of love with makeup. I am finding though as I have grown older, I don’t feel compelled to buy every new thing or every new color or collection anymore. When I was younger, I just had to have LE or new things, but I have accumulated so much, the items really have to be special, or something I don’t have to make me want to buy it. I still love to look at all the new seasonal or color trends, I just don’t have to have them anymore.
