I have a small collection of Chanel 4 ombres and have no fondness for the formula whatsoever. Sometimes I will make that sacrifice when I feel the colour is unique enough to warrant dealing with a frustratingly powdery product. Habitually, I always start with a wet base, but still find it is a major struggle to lay down product in specific areas.. A number of these are really pretty, but nothing that special that I can’t easily walk away.

They are all talc free…..pigmented and all gorgeous.
The MUA regional director taught me to person white tissue paper to get the true color, not just swatch it.

These have been completely reformulated and have been getting rave reviews from the foreign (non-USA) bloggers who have had these since February.

Olivia Avatar

I do not like the regular quads but these are really good. I got to swatch one last week and they are much better than the original quads.

Bought the Cambon n Venetien two days ago at the boutique.
Haven’t bought anything a Chanel for a long time.
Had a purple duo set, not the same but similar one when I got it 35 years ago.
Still have it….my first purple shadow.
Hope you review them….they are all yummy.

I like the colour combos in many of these, but I think Tisse Venitien might be my favourite, just for how cool it would be to have a coral and a green together.

Don’t the les 4 Ombres in the US usually have the squarish, pressed pans, not the dome, baked ones? We get the latter here, but I thought you guys had a different variation? Or am I just making all this up? 😛

OMG, I need at least 3 of those! They are so pretty! I’m a new Chanel user and I love it! Bought Prelude after reading your review. I’m loving Vendome, Tisse and Mademoiselle!

Kate Avatar

I checked these out over the weekend (and grabbed Tisse Venitien, because I have a problem resisting pigmented greens!) they are softer and more intense than the regular quads, but I saw a lot of dupes, color-wise. Also they had some new Stylo Yeux eyeliners, which I didn’t get to try.

Christine, do you think you’ll get a chance to review? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Christine Avatar

Hi Kate,

I don’t have any at the moment, and after spending $500 on Chanel’s fall collection and it generating little reader interest, I’m allocating budget to other brands this month! I reached out for samples, but was told they didn’t have any yet, so if/when that changes, I might review at that point. (I am always willing to purchase products, but Chanel took a ton of the budget last month!)

Kate Avatar

Ah that’s a shame Christine. These launched in UK a while ago. The formula is new and soooo much better than the old one imo. I have Tisse Vendome and it is very pretty. Venitien is gorgeous and next on my list, it’s so pigmented. Others are also really pretty with exception of Madamoiselle which lacks pigmentation but lovely if you like a natural look. Well worth a look at would love to hear your reviews on them one day when you have saved up or hopefully get press samples so you don’t have to lose out 🙂

I’m really looking forward to these arriving at the counter. I know these are already available at. Chanel.com, but since these are permanent, I can’t think of any good reason to rush to buy them sight unseen. They’ve been out for awhile in Europe and Asia and the reviews are favorable. They seem to be very impressed with the new formulation’s texture which is evidently a gazillion times better than the baked version they usually get. We’ll see how it compares to the US version 🙂

Veronica Avatar

SO EXCITE. I’m hoping some of these new quads are cooler-toned, as I loved Prelude but found the colors too dark for my fair skin to justify buying it. :3 I’m a Chanel fanatic, so I’m thrilled to see hit the line!

Julia Avatar

Oh, we are having these in Russia since March. They are very different from the former baked quads (I have Vanites to compare), much smoother, more pigment, less fallout. I bought Mademoiselle, Camelia and Cambon, and they are all nice, though I’m going to get rid of Cambon as I turned out to have too many pink shadows and the taupe is too shimmery for my liking and wearing.
But still I like US pressed quads waaaay more, I only had a chance to buy one quad – Quadrille from Spring 2014 – in such formula but I am totally in love with this palette, especially considering the amount of 6,8gr vs. 1,3 in baked quads

Debra Avatar

I’ve been following these “quads” on some European blogs and have to say some look downright garish. They look like Dior-wannabes.

Something weird is going on with Chanel — the fall collection is all over the place (I bought Atmosphere & Orage nail lacquers and the Confident Rouge Coco Shine) and now these new items that look very dupable.

I miss the coordinated approach for each collection that was pure Chanel.

Mariella Avatar

Some of these really appeal to me (Gabrielle, Mademoiselle, Rivoli….) but all look pretty dupeable (some even look like dupes of one another!) and knowing the iffy quality of some of Chanel quads, especially given the price tag, I’ll probably pass on these or at least be waiting to read reviews.

Olivia Avatar

These are lovely! I got to swatch one that is exclusive to Nordstrom’s last week. The texture is creamy and pigmentation is very nice. I wil be buying at least two of these.

rachael Avatar

Venetian and Vendome look gorgous. Camelia looks similar to a winter collection quad I got 3+ years ago. I love the sparkly sophisticated colors but hate trying to pack the powder on. It’s was a subtle baked formula. I’m interested to see how they reformulated it.

Anne Avatar

I have Vendôme and I quite like it. I’ll probably get Rivoli and Vénitien at some point, and maybe Mademoiselle too. Does that mean the square pans palettes will be discontinued though?

Amalia Avatar

Nothing special IMO , shimmery and metallic AND 2 gr only. The pigmentation is more intense from the baked ones . Big hugs from Greece.

Helene Avatar

I haven’t bought a Chanel quad in years and years. I had quite a few at one time but they were all very disappointing. Since this is a new formula I will go by a Chanel counter and do some swatching. I do think most of these looks very much like the ones I had all those years ago. There’s one or two I might find interesting, but these are quite expensive here so they must be really excellent for me to buy them.
I hope Chanel sends you some samples to review, Christine.

Sanna Avatar

OMG! You must get at least one of them maybe two as the formula is amazing! I have actually stayed away from collections recently but yesterday I was at my local Chanel counter and just swatched the new eye shadows quads by habit and wow! The formula is completely different and I’m now graving for Tisse Rivoli at least! Such beautiful neutral palette! I was actually thinking of getting the Bare Minerals the Truth palette but after the swatch I can’t decide whether I should buy it or Tisse Rivoli but honestly the Chanel Tisse Rivoli swatches are better! I’m based in Europe so I can completely understand the rave about these shadows! Get it, get it… so beautiful! 🙂
