The Scarlet Season: Illamasqua Encounter Lipstick
The Scarlet Season: Illamasqua Encounter Lipstick
Illamasqua Encounter Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a matte, bright true-red with a slight touch of orange in its base. While some of Illamasqua’s lipsticks can be drying, Encounter is about as dry as I’d expect for something this matte–but I noticed it didn’t really dry my lips out after wearing it, which is something I do find can happen with some of the drier mattes I’ve tried (e.g. MAC’s Ruby Woo). It also applies very evenly, despite being a matte texture, and it goes opaque in just one layer. I’m personally not a big fan of matte lips, so I tend to gloss things up. This works really well with Illamasqua’s Lily Rose Sheer Lipgloss, as seen here.
What about you? Would you wear this red?
The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

I LUUUUUUUUUUV Illamasqua’s Lipsticks the Reds are Amazing
What are some of your favorite shades, Nice?
From Deep Reds like Howl and Growl to raspberry reds like Salacious
The pigmentation is amazing
I can see that u have been using this lipstick a lot lol
I’ve only used this lipstick twice, actually! Once to test it initially, and the second time to use it for this swatch here.
This is one of my favorite reds! It’s so true that the formula is dry without being drying. Almost like a matte velvet or something.
So glad you enjoy it, Jessie!
I bought it based off of your swatch, so thank you.
Aw 🙂
the lip swatch reminds me of your lip swatch of russian red. only the finish is different. russian red is a bit more glossy?
Yeah, Russian Red is a little more glossy, and it is a bluer red.
this one is pretty, i always liked matte reds. it is nice that it is a matte but it doesn’t look or feel all that drying. Illamasqua is not available at my Sephora though.
Yeah, hopefully by 2010, more Sephora’s will get Illamasqua in. I know some of it has to do with having to restructure the displays/stores and shifting brands in and out, so it’s not an overnight thing.
I must say that I wasn’t very impressed with this color. I prefer ‘Box’ as the true Illamasqua Red. I think I just prefer my reds ‘deeper.’ This was rather pinkish on me.
I couldn’t get my hands on Box, unfortunately!
How amusing — I ordered this lipstick and it arrived today. I like it!
Yay!
