I actually had a lot of fun with this. First I went to the wikipedia page to see what colors had been picked in the past so that I wouldn’t repeat them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantone#Color_of_the_Year

Then I went on Pantone’s color finder site: http://www.pantone.com/pages/pantone/colorfinder.aspx

And from there I inserted a color that I was interested in (like ‘mint’ or ‘rose’) and a bunch of colors popped up.

After playing around with the site for a bit, I finally picked a color for 2015’s Color of the Year. And I settled on…. Poppy Red! http://www.pantone.com/pages/pantone/colorfinder.aspx?c_id=3055

I just think it’s a pretty color and the Color of the Year tends to be rather bright and vivid. I’d imagine a lipstick inspired by Poppy Red would be gorgeous too.

YES! I totally agree with you – I’m on a pewter rush at the moment. But it’s still a colour that’s hard to come by… However, your blog has really helped me! (Thank you by the way! ;D) I just recently bought Glametal by Ciaté which is almost the same colour as Épatant by Chanel (which looks much less green here in Germany than the version you swatched)

I like the idea of pewter for being universally wearable and because it can be used with pretty much any other colour. It’s hard to imagine the colour of the year being so neutral, so for an actual colour, I’d pick teal. It’s wishful thinking, I know, because it’s not that far removed from emerald green from last year, but I just love the colour!

I followed Karen’s prompts (thank you Karen) and decided that my colour should be navy blue:
PANTONE
19-3832 TCX
I also like mint (but green was used last year) and pewter is a great shade too. But the blues are my favourite. Lots of clothes, eyeshadows and nail polishes are beautiful in navy and it goes with all other colours.

I like the pewter and also the dark blues like Pantone 19-3940 TCX Blue Depths and 19-3933 TCX Medieval Blue. It is likely to be brighter color though so let’s hope it’s a nice red.

Although I would totally love to see a pewter or taupe colour of the year I think an electric or cobalt blue for next year would be great!

That’s a trend, not a color of the year…. You choose what you want and people create trends, many companies mix with Pantone to get the masses friendly with the color ahead of time, and I don’t follow trends yet love color and all that goes into it, but overall this is really just a fun question. 🙂

It should be a color that a) suits a broad spectrum of skin shades, b) suits both warm & cool tones, and c) translates well into clothing (since the clothing industry takes cues from it as well). That said, a vibrant cobalt or violet would be a nice choice.

As much as I love pewter for makeup choices, and it does fit the first two considerations, I can’t see it crossing over to clothing…
