Guerlain Sun Celebration Terracotta Bronzing Powder & Blush Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Sun Celebration Terracotta Bronzing Powder & Blush
Guerlain Sun Celebration Terracotta Bronzing Powder & Blush ($76.00 for 0.56 oz.) consists of three distinct shades with a gold overspray (which I removed by brushing it away before swatching/applying). There is a pinky-coral, tangerine, and brown. It’s most practically used in halves, so taking the bronzer and either adding the orange blush or the pink-coral blush to it, but the size of each quadrant isn’t quite big enough for an average-sized blush brush. If you have a smaller blush or highlighter brush, you could feasibly use each shade individually.
Coral Blush is a brightened, medium-dark pink-coral with warm undertones and a satin-matte finish. It had fairly good color payoff, but it was a product that performed best in application, not just a mere swatch (which isn’t uncommon with Guerlain’s blushes–their blush duos are far more impressived applied than just swatched). The texture is thin, finely-milled, and blends well on the skin. On its own, this shade wore well for eight hours before starting to fade. Milani Lady Rouge (06) (LE, $7.99) is brighter, darker. Tarte True Love (P, $26.00) is lighter. Too Faced Melt Into Spring (LE) is lighter. Bobbi Brown Pink Coral (LE, $26.00) is also lighter. theBalm Frat Boy (P, $21.00) is more muted. NYX Pinched (P, $5.00) is similar. NARS Amour (P, $29.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Sun Celebration Orange Blush is a light-medium, yellowed orange with a satin-matte finish. It had excellent color payoff, and the texture was soft, finely-milled, and not at all powdery. It applied well on the skin and blended easily. This shade wore well for just over eight hours when I tested it. Givenchy In Vogue Orange (P, $44.00) is slightly less yellow-toned. MAC Honey Jasmine (LE, $21.00) is similar. NARS Puerto Vallarta (LE, $39.00) is more shimmery, cream. Illamasqua Lover (P, $26.00) is lighter. Inglot #45 Face Blush (P, $10.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Sun Celebration Bronzer is a medium-dark, yellow-toned brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was buildable, but it didn’t have intense color payoff. Even when layered, it reaches semi-opaque coverage but doesn’t hit full. The texture was soft, lightly powdery, but smooth and sat well on the skin. This shade lasted for eight hours on me. NARS Vientiane (P, $39.00) is a cream product. NARS Cappadoce (P, $39.00) is darker, cream. Guerlain Moyen Brunettes (05) (LE, $75.00) is similar. MAC Hibiscus Kiss Bronzer (LE, $25.00) is a touch yellower. Le Metier de Beaute Sun Drenched (P, $55.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
I bought mine on Sephora, but Nordstrom also has it now.

I like the idea of this, but I’m not too crazy about the colors.
Bummer!
Sigh, I’m so tempted because of the design, but I just know this won’t work for my fair complexion. Looks good on you, Christine!
Thank you, Christina!
I’m fair, too! Let’s get some color! *Swoons* The aesthetics are mesmerizing! “Light hand” 😀 😉
I thought the sun was a highlighter, that is disappointing …
Just an over-spray, unfortunately!
Oh, bahhhhhhhhhhh.. I retract my statement above to another fair beauty eyeing this. It just works on you, and quite well! $76? A spray sun? We’re hitting Mac territory…
Mine just arrived 30 minutes ago! Based on this review…I think it’s going back! But you didn’t say why it didn’t score higher….some shades didn’t apply with much pigmentation?
Thanks for getting this review up so fast!!!! You just saved me a lot of money!!!
Both the blush and bronzer aren’t fully pigmented, and the bronzer is powdery, while the texture of the blush was thin.
Thanks! It’s going back this afternoon…I’ll be right by a Sephora….think of all that money you just saved me!!!!!
No problem! 🙂
Christine, can you compare this to the previous blush/bronzer, Terra Azzurra?
The only thing they have in common is packaging – the finish, colors, etc. are all different!
Thank you for this! I’m waiting for mine to be delivered. I don’t mind at all that the bronzer portion doesn’t apply heavily since I prefer a lighter touch with bronzer. I was somewhat concerned that this might be a bit too dark for my NC20-25 skin, but I think this will be perfect.
Glad it will work for you, Deb! 🙂
Everyone’s experience with this will be different, but I have to say this is the most perfect bronzer I’ve ever tried. I think I now get WHY people wear bronzer.
I have a couple of MAC bronzers (including the prolong wear Sun Dipped) and I like this so much better. It’s very natural looking. I used my MAC 168 and I had no trouble just getting bronzer or blush separately.
Some might like other brands better, but to me this is far superior to the MAC products I’ve tried or NARS Laguna. 🙂
I must say, this might be worth it just for the gorgeous packaging alone!
I’d like it more if the over-spray went through it, I think. It loses some magic once that goes away!
They should make a blush with just that coral shade, it is absolutely gorgeous! That said, I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on this baby either 🙂
I want to say maybe Peach Boy blush duo is similar? I swear they have one duo that is a bit like this.
While this looks pretty on you, its no where close to the beauties Guerlain has had in the past collection!
For Guerlain, it’s actually less intricate than past bronzers have been, lol!
Hi Christine, thanks so much for your review! I really should have waited for your review. Unfortunately I just purchased mine from Sephora two days ago :(. Sad that this wasn’t a better performing product!
If you have fair to light-medium skin, I think you may still like it! If you have a skin tone that’s deeper than medium, it might feel like you have to apply several layers to get the right intensity.
Thanks Christine! I’m NC30 just like you (I believe), so I may try it, but I may end up returning it if it doesn’t perform well.
Might be the way to go 🙂 If you end up trying, keep me posted on how it works for you!
Thanks Christine! I should be receiving it tomorrow so will definitely update once I’ve tried it :).
Looks so pretty in the pan!
It does!
Well, I essentially bought this because it is sooo freaking beautiful in the pan. Now I am not sure I will disturb it once I get it and just save it as a collectors item.
It’s prettier with the over-spray, IMO. I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I don’t like over-sprays 🙁
Bronzers are always a bit lost on this vampire, but if I had infinite makeup spending money, I’d get it, lever the product out of the compact, and just keep that to use as a little ‘secrets box’ 😛
Good thing Guerlain releases fancy blushes, too! 😉 Maybe one of those will be more appealing down the road.
Waaaaaaaaaay out of my budget!
It’s very pricey – wanted it to be better, particularly at this price point.
This is funny, but not really. I finally decide to buy a Guerlain bronzer and it turns out that it’s not as excellent in quality as the ones in the permanent line lol.
Awwwww 🙁
Hopefully you have more luck with it/you don’t notice the deficiencies when you use it!
Thank you for the quick review. I was thinking about getting this but I don’t think it will work on nc45 skintone. Saved me $$$ to spend it on something else.
No problem, Shelley!
I don’t think it should factor into the product rating, but I would love to see a rating for specifically for packaging! I’ve bought so many products that have been ruined by the packaging. It would be helpful to know!
Hey Kelsey!
If packaging actually interferes with product application or if there’s something actually *wrong* with it, I usually call it out 🙂 Like a lipgloss that hardly gets any product out, I’ll usually mention, but if it’s your standard lipstick tube, there’s not much to say (it’ll mostly be an aesthetic choice).
I’m NC45 and knew the bronzer wouldn’t show up on me, but I picked this up yesterday anyway after trying out the blush colors at Nordstrom. I plan to mix the bronzer shade with the blush shades because I wanted a more neutral or natural looking blush. It doesn’t hurt the packaging is awesome.
Happy to hear that you have a good idea on how to make it work for you, Nichole! 🙂 I think mixing the bronzer with the blush is the best (and easiest!) way to use it.
Is the golden sun in the centre just an over-spray? It might actually be kind of pretty for summer if it went all the way through and you had the option of using it lightly, heavily or not at all, depending on where you placed your brush.
Just an over-spray! There’s a photo in about the middle that shows it mostly removed!
Thank you so much for showing a picture with the over spray brushed off, I’m always interested to see the differences. Overs sprays seem so intimidating to me, maybe fear of the unknown, silly I know.
They’re usually gone so quickly!
I’m glad I went with the regular terracotta four seasons instead, which is awesome!
So glad you’re loving your Terracotta bronzer!
Though The packaging is incredibly tempting, I am letting this go based on the rating! 😉
It really should perform better!
I wanted this so much because it looked so lovely in the pan! So disappointed that it doesn’t perform that well. And it doesn’t look so pretty once the overspray is brushed off!
It definitely loses something when the over spray is gone!
You’re in heaven. Lucky duck! BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thank you!
Aw, I was hoping to replace my Terracotta light for this. Then again I’ll still buy it for the packaging and as a Guerlain collector.
My Liu Palette sits unused in the velvet pouch with plastic covers. My Madame Flirte have hasn’t seen the light of day.
You should try to find a way to display them, even if you don’t use them!
The packaging is so pretty and this looks really good on you! Sad about the cons though! xx
Me too! 🙁
Hey, when you do lip swatches, have you considered taking one picture in natural light?
Hi Ammara,
One photo is in direct light (mimics sunlight), one is in indirect light (mimics diffused, filtered, or light from a window).
This looks good on you. Given my Olive asian skin color, i think i can work on the Coral shade. But not sure if they carry this in my country. So pretty.. Guerlain makes the prettiest and most stylish packaging ever..
Thank you, Dain!
This is gorgeous! I don’t usually go for products that contain a few different shades like this, but I love this bronzer!
Yay! 😀
I have so many bronzers I don’t use, I REALLY don’t need this, plus I want to invest in a pressed Meteorites… DAMN THIS IS STUNNING THOUGH.
Go pressed Meteorites!
Soul had like to see this and the 2012 pucci bronzer blush side by side
Pucci is definitely completely different, IMO!
how does this compare to the guerlain pucci bronzer? i know the coral and the pinkportions in the pucci one was small but it seems like the concept is the same?
The colors are completely different – http://www.temptalia.com/guerlain-terra-azzurra-bronzer-blush-review-photos-swatches
I received mine today and after reading your review may return it…it is beautiful in the container but your swatches have put me off of it a bit
Aw 🙁 Well, if you can return after trying, might as well try!
Thank you Christine…I got both of the New Christian Dior Diorskin Nude Shimmer Illuminating Powders after seeing your Review and LOVE THEM BOTH
Yay!!
Dang, I wanted to love this even though it’s incredibly expensive! It just looks so beautiful. I’m not loving the swatched colors though! Thanks so much for the review!
No problem, Rachel!
I just got mine today from the mail and I was thrilled! It looked gorgeous on the pan. There’s a pretty strong fragrance, but I’m able to ignore it. I’m disappointed to find out the gold is an overlay and not a highlighter. I wanted to keep it but for the price, think it’ll have to go back.
If you don’t LOVE it, definitely return – it’s too pricey to just be eh on it!
As a product it doesnt seems worth the price.. but is itself so pretty to put to use.. <3
Loved the bright sun in the center.. 🙂
It is really pretty with the over-spray!
Is this recommended for people with deep skin complexions? (NW45/NC55) I really want this!
I wouldn’t recommend it for NW45/NC55!
Funny, I am usually the big skeptic here, but maybe since we don’t have Guerlain anywhere around me where I can try things, I thought this was great stuff. I vary from NW25 to NC37 and it looks really pretty on me. So subtle that it can fool me for a moment, but when I step away from the mirror a bit- it does provide a beautiful natural color.
I use the blushes across the cheeks and bridge of my nose, forehead and chin just like the skin kisses me when I am outside. Then I apply the bronzer in the E shape on either side of my face.
Every time I do that, I get tons of compliments. I was convinced I would have to return it, but as it seems it turns out to be a winner for me. Swatched, I would never think it would work for me.
So glad you’re loving it, Capri! It’s not a BAD product, but it was underwhelming compared to some of the other bronzers Guerlain has done.
