This spring, Milani launched a new gloss formula, Brilliant Shine, in fourteen different shades. The new formula is supposed to have “rich color, extreme high shine, and comfortable lasting wear,” plus be “moisturizing and non-tacky.” I have several more to try (and not all of them are even photographed yet!), but here are the first three I tested. The texture is thick but smooth and mostly non-sticky, and the gloss smells like sweet vanilla but has no discernible taste. It comes with a paddle-shaped, sponge-tip applicator that fits along the curve of the lip. The formula has a high-shine, glossy finish, and they wear between three and four hours on me. I notice a slight tackiness that develops after an hour of wear, but it never feels full-on sticky, but it’s not 100% non-sticky. In some ways, the formula reminded me of MAC Lipglass, just not as thick and not tacky. Based on these three, they’re somewhat hydrating while worn.

Milani Berry Tempting (05) Brilliant Shine Lipgloss ($5.49 for 0.21 oz.) is a cool-toned, pink-tinged berry with a cream finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, and it applied evenly for the most part. Sometimes deeper shades like this can look splotchy on lips, but I thought this one managed to still allow the natural lip color to come through without looking too uneven. It wore well for four hours. Maybelline Amethyst Potion (045) (P, $8.99) is similar. NARS Penny Arcade (LE, $26.00) is brighter. MAC Real Posh (LE, $15.00) is darker, shimmery. MAC Mall Madness (LE, $15.00) is shimmery. MAC Colour Saturation (LE, $20.00) is slightly brighter. See comparison swatches.

Ravish Raspberry (06) Brilliant Shine Lipgloss ($5.49 for 0.21 oz.) is a brightened, pinky-berry with a cream finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, and it applied evenly overall. It lasted just over four hours on me. It’s brighter and pinker compared to Berry Tempting. Maybelline Amethyst Potion (045) (P, $8.99) is more muted. Urban Decay Big Bang (P, $19.00) is shimmery. NARS Penny Arcade (LE, $26.00) is similar. MAC Colour Saturation (LE, $20.00) is also similar. See comparison swatches.

Pink Lady (07) Brilliant Shine Lipgloss ($5.49 for 0.21 oz.) is a cool-toned, blue-based medium pink with a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, but it wouldn’t apply evenly at all! It looked splotchy and as if it had settled into lip lines yet not fully. When I wore it, the color lasted for three hours. Edward Bess First Kiss (P, $30.00) is warmer. NARS Coeur Sucre (P, $26.00) is cooler-toned and shimmery. MAC Long Love Love (P, $19.50) is lighter. MAC Pink Nouveau (LE, $15.00) is similar but more pigmented. See comparison swatches.

Hm, the last few images seem to not be loading and I’ve refreshed a few times. Tried to open in new tab, but it says 404 Not Found? I’ll try again later. I’m glad you’re reviewing these though. I think I may stick with the new liquid lipstick whatever ones for this collection, but I’m gonna wait for the rest of your reviews!

Watched your reviews on this, all 3 Nakeds, now must look for your VICE reviews. First started watching you as one of Christine’s Sunday links. You’re adorable + you certainly tell it like it is…. And, BTW, hate to go all speech path on you, but i am one. Hope you’re doing closed captions for the deaf community. You are totally intelligible, even from across the room (had to tend to some food….) No hearing people need the captions. You are perfect!

Yes, I am doing the closed captioning for d/Deaf/HOH like myself, thank you! Probably only 1% of makeup tutorials are captioned, if any that aren’t mine are at all (and I don’t mean the simple writing directions stuff people do on just music tutorials), so… somebody’s got to do it. Unfortunately, it has to be the girl who can hardly hear/understand herself, hahaha.

And I love it when people tell me they found me from Christine, eee. :3 Hahaha. <3

Christine is THE product authority + the fact that you’ve got her stamp of approval + are often a Sunday link should make you very proud. (Run on sentence….) And I think that ‘underwhelmed’ says it all for the new UD duos. Let’s see if my comment about THAT gets removed. (I kinda zinged the woman who said it wasn’t a word, which it is…and you used it perfectamundo {which isn’t a word, but isn’t word coinage great?}) Keep up the great work!

good product for a great price! I particularly like the raspberry shade. I rarely wear lipgloss because I live on top of escarpment and it is just so astonishingly windy here. I inevitably end up with my hair stuck to my lips–sometimes even just jumping into my vehicle– which drives me completely cray and there I sit in the driver’s seat for the first few minutes peering into the review mirror while I pick at individual hairs stuck to my lips. I’m getting blind as a bloody bat with my up close vision so I have to haul my damn glasses out of my purse in order to see the suckers. TMI..I know! Anyhow, on point, I’m planning to cut my hairz off..like uber short in a couple of weeks so perhaps lipgloss might be back on the table….

I’m wearing Sweet Grapefruit 09, a light semi-opaque light/medium pink and I like it so far. It is much less sticky than other glosses I’ve worn. I rarely wear a gloss by itself, usually I wear them to hydrate my lips when I’m wearing drying lipsticks, but so far I like this one on its own. I love the first two berry shades that you tried out. Eager to try those!

I think I’ve been spoiled by the recent crop of opaque and colourful glosses at the drugstore. These look nice, but I think I’d opt for Revlon colorburst or Maybelline color elixirs over these.
