2014 Editor's Choice Awards

I’m pleased to say that our 2014 Editor’s Choice Awards winners have been announced! 🙂 The Awards give me an opportunity to recognize and honor the products I’ve come to love the most each year, as well as over time. There are 80 categories, 154 winners, and 82 different brands who have won this year.  You can view the winners here!

P.S. — Don’t forget to nominate your favorite products and brands in the 2014 Readers’ Choice Awards! Nominations close January 16th.

Comments that do not adhere to our comment policy may be removed. Discussion and debate are highly encouraged but we expect community members to participate respectfully. Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Oh my, this list is so full of win (and I never use that expression)!!! So grateful there’s a printable version too. I agree with so many of these choices, so many of my HGs are here… So so glad Too Faced Pretty Rebel got the recognition it deserves too, it’s just outstanding but I know the competition was fierce haha! Glad to see Bare Minerals Ready eyeshadow, Buxom, L’Oreal and Sleek got some love too, I remain loyal to those brands as well. If I had a pick a product of the year, it would be the Ambient Lighting Powders, they rock my world and I can’t imagine my makeup life without them now! I suppose it’s been a great year in makeup for me… but I still have two Givenchy Le Rouges on my To-Buy list for the next time I visit Sephora!! I also am interested in ordering from Fyrinnae and checking out those Chanel cream-to-powder blushes!

I am very pleased with the winners! I am not surprised that the Chanel cream blush got best high-end cream blush 🙂 And after seeing the Hourglass Mineral Veil primer win best primer, I decided to put it on my wish list.

Thanks for putting together all this! It’s so interesting to see what came out on top for you across the whole year, in one place. It’s especially great to have it sorted by high end/budget, and fascinating to see how the two ‘ends’ match up on the same product!

Here’s to another year of (hopefully fantastic) products! 😀

Wow! Thanks for sharing and all the hard work put into this, Christine! I actually found out about this post a few minutes ago via Hourglass’ Twitter. Congrats on being (closely) followed by such great brands.

Now let’s see where to get this La Prairie cleanser (and T3 blow dryer, and…) as you couldn’t advertise it better 😀

Tigerlily Avatar

It’s apparently recommended to use several cleansers on rotation…so you could keep on indulging in the La Prairie and try out other ones 😉

Great list! – but I noticed that there is no eyebrow category? Perhaps I’m missing it. I was hoping to find who won for best eyebrow pencil, gel and powder.

Excellent picks! I wish I wasn’t at work so I could really run through them lol. I do agree though that Urban Decay, Cult Nails and Sleek had a really great year! Especially Urban Decay! I’ve always liked their eyeshadows but I branched out to their other products like their lipsticks and I just love them! So interested in trying out some of their new products for the year!

Hey christine, there’s a little mix-up in your awards. Under best budget curling iron, you put the same description you had for the remington shine therapy flat iron. There’s no mention as to why you like the hot tools curling iron.

Lots of fab products listed, but particularly happy to see Sleek included in your editorial list: such amazing products and so reasonably priced even if they are rather difficult to track down. The Romance palette is one of my personal favs as well which I tracked down based on your positive review.

Thank you so much for all your hard work in preparing your extensive list! Quick question, when I click on the link at the bottom of previous winners some of them took me to a page that said chanel and then listed your biggest makeup fails of 2013 — that was what happened when I clicked on the link to the chanel bronzer that won in 2009 and other took me to just a list of products by that company. Are the links at the bottom, for previous winners, supposed to link to that products review or just a list of products you have reviewed by that company. Sorry for the rambling question!

Christine Avatar

Hi Elisa!

Some products have won and I haven’t actually posted reviews of them (because unfortunately, I test and take photos for more than I can actually write about!), so in the instance where there is not a specific review, it will link to the brand’s category (where any and all posts featuring that brand are listed)! 🙂

Hope that helps!

Amber Avatar

Didn’t know where to post this. But will you be reviewing the raved about anastasia dipbrow pomade? I believe mac released something similar.

KK Avatar

WOW Christine!! Thats one exhaustive list! Shows your hard-work and dedication to the craft – not just in compiling the list but the whole year thru of testing, photographing, writing about products!! Hats off to you!

And much to my hubby’s annoyance – i see a number of products going on my “to buy” and “wish list” (yes, they are separate!!).

KK Avatar

To Buy list has:
1 Buxom full bodied lipstick – Scoundrel
2. Chanel Creme blush – Innotation and Affinite
3. Tom Ford – Love Lust
4. NARS smudgeproof eyeshadow base

Just struck of this from the to-buy list:
1. Givenchy Le Rouge Fuchsia Irresistible – such an amazing colour! Love the formula!

Phoebe Avatar

I look forward to this even more than the reader awards! Thanks for putting this together. I think I only disagree with one product on there! (the MUFE liquid liner)

I’m definitely going to have to try that Givenchy Le Rouge lipstick!

Phoebe Avatar

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner in black

It’s not perfect, but so far, it’s been the longest lasting on me. Only the very inside corner starts to disappear (not migrate…just disappear).

I can’t get the MUFE liner to stay at all.

Thank you for once again putting this list together, I refer back to it frequently. One category that I would love to see included in the future is brow product. This is a must have product for many people and it would be so helpful to have more reviews in the future. Thanks,

Christine Avatar

Thanks for the suggestion! I don’t feel comfortable giving winners for brow products, because I don’t test very many, and I don’t have the requisite experience to really be able to judge the very, very best as I am able to for say lipstick 🙂

Has Guerlain’s Parure Gold been discontinued?! I just bought it in December after reading all your reviews and I LOVE IT. Makes me want to buy a backup in case – I tried Lingerie de Peau and it just wasn’t the same!

Josie Avatar

I didn’t even realise! Which of Guerlain’s other foundations (or other brands) do you feel is most comparable? Wondering if it would be worth getting a back up, or to just wait and see what Guerlain comes up with over the next while? How long would it take you to go through a bottle at the rate you use it?

Christine Avatar

I don’t think any of Guerlain’s other foundations that I’ve tried are comparable… perhaps Extreme, since that is more full coverage, I think, but I haven’t tried it.

If it’s your every day foundation, worth getting a backup so you at least have some time to ponder what’s the next buy! Foundations last me 3-6 months, I’d say, if I used it 4-6 days a week. I haven’t finished a bottle of Guerlain foundation before, lol!

bfaajs Avatar

Great list….I actually ordered a Sleek eye palate directly through them…..received it in about 2 1/2 weeks…..great palate…..thanks for all of your hard work….
