Chanel Nuit Magique Le Vernis Nail Colour Review, Photos, Swatches

Chanel Cosmic Le Vernis Nail Colour
Chanel Magic & Cosmic Le Vernis Nail Colour

Chanel’s Nuit Magique Collection includes two limited edition shades of polish, which released this past Monday. I was underwhelmed by Cosmic, as it’s a shade that we’ve seen several times in the past couple of years, though with larger sparkle, but with the finer, sparser sparkle in Cosmic, it’s hard to see it except under a lot of light or at an angle. Magic was more unique (based on what I’ve reviewed and swatched myself), and it also applied beautifully.

Cosmic Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “black sparkling with blue and silver pearl.” It’s a medium-dark black base with fine flecks of navy blue and silver shimmer. The shimmer is somewhat sparse and fine, so from afar, it tended to look more like a black cream. It was mostly opaque after two coats, and the consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, but in some ways, it seemed watery. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Batty (P, $10.00) has larger sparkle. NARS Night Breed (LE, $19.00) also has larger sparkle. L’Oreal The Queen’s Ambition (LE) has more sparkle. L’Oreal Drop Dead Gorgeous (P) is similar. Illamasqua Creator (P, $17.00) has more sparkle, larger sparkle. Color Club Show Time (P) has more sparkle. China Glaze Smoke & Ashes (LE, $7.50) is similar. See comparison swatches.

Magic Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “daybreak blue.” It’s a medium-dark blue cream; it’s not too cool-toned, and it’s brighter and lighter than navy blue. This shade was incredibly pigmented and was fully opaque after two coats. The consistency was slightly thin, but I didn’t have any application issues. Marc Jacobs Beauty Blue Velvet (132) (P, $18.00) is the shade I could think of that is most similar in color, but it has a totally different finish. NARS Superstar (LE, $19.00) is less blue. Chanel Blue Rebel (LE, $27.00) is darker. China Glaze First Mate (LE, $7.50) is a bit darker. Essie Go Overboard (LE, $8.00) is greener. See comparison swatches.

I agree that Cosmic is disappointing, but I wasn’t expecting to be impressed as it was one of the few times that Chanel seemed to be following the crowd instead of leading it.

Magic truly is lovely and I do love those kind of cremes, but it does feel like it’s going to end up being one of the easier to dupe colors, so I’ll probably wait for one of those!

Rashmi– check out Feifei by Zoya!! It is the most gorgeous, complex shade! It shifts from a silvery blue-green to a magenta-purple, & is loaded with shimmer!

I love the deep blues. Did my first foray into those colors on toes last summer. Had a heck of a time getting the color off later, never had so much trouble getting a polish off (it wasn’t gel) — any tips?

I have to disagree, I love Cosmic. I’m not a fan of glitter and I love that even though it’s not as fine as glitter in their other nail polishes it’s still subtle. Blue base makes it pretty unique. I also haven’t noticed any issues with application, but I prefer formulas on the thinner side.

Magic is to close to Chanel Blue Rebel for my liking.

I missed out on Cosmic but after looking at your comparison swatches I can’t say I care all that much. I think I can achieve basically the same look with a good solid black and Orly’s Prisma Gloss Silver, or I can get really close. The silver is too sparse for me to find it that remarkable, really. I have Illamasqua Creator, I’m going to be happy having that instead. I agree, underwhelmed.

Still debating Magic, though. Lovely shade, but I don’t really have the money right now and I have Blue Rebel, might even have First Mate around somewhere so…I might save my pennies and hope for something earth shattering in the Spring colors.

I’m going in search of your swatches for Accessoire and Rouge Rubis, though!
