Happy Thanksgiving! (2013 Edition)
The best part about Thanksgiving is it serves as a reminder to be thankful for all of the good things in our lives. It’s also an occasion where families and friends come together to share in holidays. I’m so excited to see everyone later today when they pop by! Even if Thanksgiving isn’t a tradition in your part of the world, the meaning behind it is something we can all share in. I’d love to take a moment to share a few things I’m thankful for, and I’d love to hear some of yours! Happy Hanukkah, as well, to those who celebrate!
5 Things I’m Thankful For
- An amazing, supportive, kind, loving husband. He’s someone who sees me day in and day out, and he always knows how to make me smile and laugh until I have tears in my eyes.
- The support and love of my family and extended family. I am so fortunate that my family has continuously supported, encouraged, and helped however they could to help me reach my dreams. It is so good to love and be loved.
- My dearest, sweetest boy–Mellan–for his warm, wiggling body, his wet nose, his kangaroo imitations, for always putting a smile on my face. He has such spirit, such a positive, uplifting outlook.
- Good friends are hard to find, and best friends the rarest jewel in the crown. I am so fortunate to count a few inspiring people in my circle of friends–I have learned so much from them and they have helped me grow.
- All of you, who have given me purpose and have helped make living my dream possible. Thank you so much for your support over the years–your readership, your comments, your questions.
5 Things I’m Thankful For — Beauty Edition
- Smart doctors; this year, I finally managed to get a handle on my acne, and I owe that to my primary care doctor for prescribing me topical treatments. I am forever indebted to her for the state of my skin right now!
- Coral in any shape or form, whether blush, lipstick, gloss, or eyeshadow, I continue to love you however you may be released next!
- Unusual lip colors thanks to brands like OCC and Illamasqua, because these let us be creative, free, and have fun with our makeup!
- Highly shimmery gloss has become a go-to when I need a lip color on the go and have nothing else in my purse! It adds lots of oomph and shine in a single stroke. (Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lipgloss, I’m looking at you!)
- Richly pigmented, hydrating lipstick seems to have been introduced over and over again by more and more brands this past year; I feel like I have five favorite formulas, not just one!
general-I am thankful for my family and their good health, and my good health. I am thankful for the best mom on earth.I’m thankful for a stress free life without a lot of worries. I thankful for financial security and a warm home to come home to. I am thankful for kind, peace loving people who do the right things when it comes to others-in particular the weak-animals, children, the elderly…
makeup-I am thankful for the vast array of makeup products available that help us look and feel beautiful.I’m thankful i can indulge my love of makeup-within reason, obviously.
Good health is definitely something to be very thankful for!
Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂
You too Christine :)- I’m also thankful for your reviews and good advice that help all of us make more informed decisions
🙂
Beauty wise I’m thankful for…
1) Guerlain Rouge G lipstick formula. It makes my lips feel so soft and smooth and the colors are so beautiful!
2) Sleek eyeshadows! They are so high quality, come in fun bright colors and at a bargain price at that!! (I plan to wear them tonight for my Thanksgiving look!)
3) Finishing powders. I’m just now getting into them and they are seriously MAGICAL!! (Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder and Nars Light Reflecting Powder are my picks!)
4) Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip gloss! Be able to have the most sparkly shimmery lips ever without feeling like you have glitter on your lips!
5) Bare Minerals Original and Matte Foundation -the only foundation that truly does not break me out and gives me the coverage I need!
I’m happy you’ve found a foundation that works so well for you, Cat! 🙂 One of the hardest products to find your HG for!
What a lovely list and a great idea, Christine, to post this. Here in Canada, Thanksgiving is long gone but….
I’m thankful for : My husband – you don’t make it through 33 years of marriage still happy and in love without a great man who is by your side and covering your back. My mother in law – in addition to helping create this wonderful son who became my husband, she has taught me so much about how to be the better person, be less covetous and more giving; she is wise and wonderful. My children – DD who got married this summer, my son in the Canadian Forces and my youngest son still in school; we’ve been so lucky in that all 3 of them were great kids who never got into serious trouble, never gave us any real grief and who all have decent values and are great people – hard working, thankful for the advantages they’ve had and what we’ve given them. My job – I have the coolest job and the best co-workers and I’m liked and respected by my colleagues and students alike and that brings a lot of satisfaction. And my friends – I don’t have oodles but they are great, long time friends in whom I can confide just about anything.
Beauty Edition: Jouviance skin care products; Too Faced Boudoir Eyes; Nars Lhasa; natural looking foundations (liquid and mineral powder) from Shiseido, Tarte and Laura Mercier; MAC – as much as I grouse about their LE stuff and collection after collection, if I need a lipstick or an eye shadow, I know I can find what I’m looking for at MAC. Is that 5? If so, I have to add a 6th – Inglot shadows. Honestly, even compared to my priciest shadows from Dior, Chanel, etc., Inglot still wins in terms of pigmentation and texture.
It is interesting how we both have Thanksgiving but the timing is very different!
Congrats on 33 years – so happy to hear that you’re still happy and in love 🙂 So rare and so magical.
teehee..we’re already under a foot of snow.. that’s why 😀
I’m thankful to you, Christine and this website! It’s helped me a lot with making smarter purchases and application techniques. I also enjoy that this is a ‘kind’ site where all us fanatics can come and comment and share tips without all the nastiness that is too popular on the internet.
Have a great day!
Aww, thank you so much, Linda!! 🙂
Hi Christine, Can you please share which topical treatments you have found to have helped clear your acne? I am struggling with hormonal acne and would love to know what worked for you! Thanks!
Hi Dar!
My doctor prescribed a topical antibiotic called clindamycin, and then I also use Differin (though I use the generic version)!
I’m always thankful for my family and friends, but this year I’m especially thankful because one of my sisters had to go through various medical analysis due to a possibility of cancer, but thank God, no cancer was found. She is not only my sister but my best friend and I feel so lucky to count with her 🙂 ! Therefore, more than ever, I am grateful for health and for the time I’m able to spend with my family, friends and Kasumi, my black Lab!
As for beauty items, I’m grateful for the incredible variety of products out there, for all tastes and budgets, that allow my creative side to express itself. I’m also thankful for Clinique’s Moisture Surge and Superbalm Moisturizing Glosses, which save my skin in this cold weather. And I’m also thankful the MAC store near my work – it´s nice to know I can “escape” over there once in a while 🙂 !
I cannot stop from wondering how Mellan imitates a kangaroo! Do you think you could post a video sometime? I’m sure he’s the cutest when he does that! Happy Thanksgiving, Christine!
So happy to hear that your sister is cancer-free! I can’t imagine how scary that must have been to go through for you and her!
It’s really how he sleeps! 🙂 Here’s one pic of him in a kangaroo-like pose – http://instagram.com/p/gi2dTZyP26/
Thank you, Christine 🙂 !
Mellan is the cutest boy! Hope you and your family had the loveliest Thanksgiving!
You as well, Leticia! 🙂
So many, many things to be thankful for, both great and small, but all worth being grateful for! You did mention that this part of the earth may not celebrate Thanksgiving (I’m from Manila, Philippines) but nonetheless, we all give thanks for all our blessings. Which is why I am thankful for Temptalia too. Your site is a part of my daily routine and my love for make-up makes life more colorful and exciting!
My heart still goes out for the Philippines – so heartbreaking. I hope you’re doing as well as you can be, Soleil!
Thank you!

Things I’m thankful for, non-beauty edition: High-speed internet, the ability to think critically, chocolate, feminism+body acceptance+human rights movements, and that I haven’t been stabbed in a dark alley.
Things I’m thankful for, beauty edition: Red lipstick, sunscreen, lip balm, pen eyeliner with calligraphy brush tip, and hair smoothing serum.
Pen eyeliner with a calligraphy brush tip – yes, a fantastic invention for liquid eyeliner!
What’s your favorite hair smoothing serum?
Happy Hanukkah and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in USA.
I’m thankful for the whole Temptalia team and this amazing website with such great people.
I’m seriously thankful to be mostly in remission after being ill for 5 years.
I’m thankful for my partner, Harald. We live and run a business together and after many years are still able to discover interesting and good things about each other, make each other belly laugh, find support, respect, and acceptance in each other, hell..find each other attractive!
I’m thankful I get to share my life with animals. 200 goats, 40 sheep, 4 horses, 4 dogs, and a barn cat. Yeah, it’s an adventure every day.
I’m really thankful for duct tape. It’s bailed me out so many times..
Thank you so much, Wendy!
But more importantly, I am so happy to hear that you’re doing well and still in remission!
I’m thankful that this year I achieved the following: learned how to sew, went abroad for the first time ever (to Iceland), celebrated my 50th birthday, discovered vintage clothing, started a new job, and reached my target weight after quite a long struggle. I’m thankful I have a wonderful husband and fantastic teenage daughter who love and support me despite my makeup addiction and ever-growing collection of clothes; I’m also thankful I have two gorgeous cats and a beautiful dog who always make me smile even when the going is rough. Makeup wise, I’m thankful for OCC Lip Tar’s staying power during working long shifts, UD Naked 2 for helping my eyes look their best whatever the occasion, and the Blue Lagoon Icelandic skincare range for breathing new life into tired, dehydrated skin.
Congratulations on so many achievements, Caroline! I’m so glad you were able to travel, celebrate your birthday, and reach your weight loss goal!
Was it a dermatologist you went to? How do you go about picking a good one? I am having a severe acne problem and really need to visit one, but I don’t want to pour money into their treatment and still not see results.
Hi Krystal,
I talked to my primary care physician 🙂 She prescribed both medications for me. You might try talking to your primary care doctor first, even if just to express your concerns and get a referral/recommendation.
