Chanel Rouge Rubis Le Vernis Nail Lacquer
Chanel Rouge Rubis Le Vernis Nail Lacquer ($27.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is described as a “vivid red.” It’s a brilliantly bright, medium red with neutral undertones–balanced between warm and cool. Sometimes it looks almost warm-toned, and then it would look cool-toned; it’s very well-balanced. The texture is more jelly than it is cream, and it had such a naturally high-shine finish. It was opaque in two coats. I normally get a week of wear with Chanel’s polish (but almost nothing chips on me), though I know that Chanel’s formula can be hit or miss for many!
There are plenty of similar shades, since it is a rather opaque red! It really depends on whether you’re looking for a perfectly neutral red or don’t mind one that leans cool or warm. MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned, cream. MAC Touch of Red (LE, $16.00) is similar. MAC Russian Red (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Flaming Rose (P, $16.00) is pinker. Guerlain Champs-Elysees (P, $23.00) is slightly pinker.Dior Marilyn (LE, $26.00) is darker. Cult Nails Evil Queen (P, $12.00) is very similar. China Glaze Hey Sailor (LE, $8.00) is cooler-toned. Zoya Sooki (P, $8.00) is warmer. Essie Silken Cord (LE, $8.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.

What nailpolish formula do you think is best, price being no issue?
Illamasqua, Cult Nails, Guerlain are the ones that come to mind… they all wear stellar on me. Guerlain has a lot of natural shine without a top coat. Illamasqua and Cult Nails have wider ranges.
Chanel is often at the forefront of new colors/ingredients/technologies but Chanel polish is very often duped by a myriad of brands – so while they may put out something new and cool first, it’s likely you’ll see it filtered through 10 other brands over the next year (Chanel Peridot comes to mind).
Es un rojo precioso, muy brillante, aunque mi preferido sigue siendo el Dragon 🙂
Interesting colour. When I first looked at it in the bottle, I figured it for a warmer red.. not the case. I like!
Cute shade. I am a sucker for red nail polish and lipstick.
Gorgeous nail polish and it’s perfect to wear for the holidays.
which top coat you use with chanel nail polish? i think some of them don´t work because of the formulation. Any suggestion?
I usually use Zoya’s Armor!
Christine–Your comment “…but almost nothing chips on me” makes me curious (or envious). What brand basecoat and topcoat do you wear? I’d imagine that your hands get a workout.
Hey Lynne,
You’ll hate me a little more – but I get almost the same wear with and without base/top coats so I’ve found base/top coats to be nice to use but unnecessary for extended wear (better for protecting the underlying nail from staining, filling in ridges, and then top coat for real shine). When I use a base/top coat, it’s generally Zoya’s top & base coat! When I test a polish formula, I do it with and without!
I am actually not a fan of red polishes, but this wows me. Stunning!
Wow, it is what I’m looking for.
Just in time, my sisiter’s birthday is coming next week.
I know her. She likes the color very much.
