L'Oreal Matte-r of Fact & The True Diamond Nail Lacquers Reviews, Photos, Swatches
L’Oreal Matte-r of Fact Nail Lacquer
L’Oreal Matte-r of Fact Nail Lacquer ($5.99 for 0.39 fl. oz.) is a blue-teal with a matte finish. It’s a new and limited edition shade for fall, which I’ve just wrapped up testing, because testing took all of 24 hours–it chips like crazy. Matte polish, in general, does tend to chip on me far faster than regular polish (especially since regular polish almost never chips on me), but there were chips on every nail after a day. It’s opaque in two coats, and like most matte formulas, it dries down very quickly. I would recommend a ridge-filling coat prior, as you can see some ridges from my natural nails. MAC Screening Room is glossy, but it is the closest I could think of in terms of color. See comparison swatches.
L’Oreal The True Diamond Nail Lacquer ($5.99 for 0.39 fl. oz.) is a clear base with a lot of fine silvery-white shimmer and sparkle. It’s designed to be used as a top coat, and one coat has great coverage for a top coat–you’ll get plenty of shimmer across the nail. I used one coat over Matte-r of Fact, and a second would have been totally unnecessary. I used two coats of it alone on my thumb nail, just so you could see what the top coat looked like on its own. The top coat extended the wear of Matte-r of Fact by two days before there was noticeable chipping. I generally have no problems with chipping when I’ve used L’Oreal’s Colour Riche formula–it wears well and long for me (week)–and would expect this to be just fine over more normally-wearing polishes. I don’t personally have anything similar to this, so I didn’t have any dupes in mind.

Most nail polishes chip within a day on me, so I’m avoiding Matte-r of Fact, but I’m all over True Diamond. Love those shimmer overlays. 😀
I really liked The True Diamond! 🙂 Simple but versatile and easy to use.
I can’t quite wrap my head around matte polishes, I guess because I’m so used to them being shiny or metallic or something. It doesn’t look bad, but it does look very weird.
It’s definitely something that’s not for everyone. When they get too pale, it reminds me of White-Out, which doesn’t work for me!
I love matte nail polish but it’s kind of hard to find, at least it has been for me. I feel like I could deal with the difficult formula. Christine, do you know if there are more colors in the matte formula or is it just this blue one?
Hey Ioana! I believe they have three. I know for sure there’s also a black (I have that one), but I think there is one more (which I don’t have).
They also released a matte top coat, which I’ll be reviewing soon, and just as a quickie note, I’d opt for that over any of the matte polishes.
I know Sinful colors released a mattifying topcoat polish awhile back. I’m not sure if it was LE or not, but you could try looking around at drug stores to see if they still have it.
revlon has a permanent matte topcoat out
Both those colors are gorgeous, too bad the blue chips so bad! I mostly like Loreal’s new formula.
Me too! I don’t have great luck with matte polishes with wear, so it wasn’t totally surprising.
The matte finish is just gorgeous.. L’Oreal nail paints are really good..
liked both the versions of NOTD..!! 🙂
The True Diamond really brought a lot to the party!
Such a shame about the teal….but that top coat! WOW. I can’t believe that’s only 1 coat over the teal–I went back to reread your post to make sure!! Gorgeous!
I know, right? It has amazing coverage!
Oh man too bad about the quality 🙁 🙁 Because the color and the finish are gorgeous!
I know! 🙁
Polish that chips in only a day, color that stains, and it sure does show every nail ridge, I think I will pass of the teal polish but I do like the matte look and the way it looks so surreal like cartoon nails. I am certain I have a dupe as far as color and I can just add a matte topper to get the same look. I’ll pass on the teal, but now that glitter – that can be mine. I adore glitters and shimmers. That is right up my alley!
Yeah, I would definitely say a matte top coat is a better idea – and they tend to wear way longer than an actual matte polish!
The True Diamond is really cool! This looks like a great product to use during the Christmas season.
Agreed!
This looks really good on you! <3
Thank you!
I can’t wear any matte polish, period. I had a Zoya matte, Savina, where I did my usual method of application in the evening, and I woke up with a chip missing from the center of a nail. That’s definitely the extreme end of “mattes have shorter wear time,” though!
I can rock the matte look if I do a normal mani and then add matte top coat, so there’s that.
