5 Shades of Stormy Gray

Earthy… weathered… how about five shades of stormy gray? Gray can be such a basic shade, but it can add a lot of dimension and depth, too, and sometimes it can look so modern and clean on its own.

  1. NARS Transvaal — can be used as an eyeliner or cream eyeshadow, it’s a medium-dark, creamy gray with neutral-cool undertones
  2. MAC Typographic — a classic, dark gray with a matte finish
  3. Illamasqua Raindrops — a smattering of silver flakes suspended in a bluish-gray
  4. Inglot #387 — a cool-toned, blue-tinted gray with a mostly matte finish
  5. Zoya Dove — a medium, warm-toned gray cream

What’s your current go-to gray shade?

I totally agree about MAC Typographic. It is such an amazing and versatile shadow and the texture/blendability are the best. I also love Keep Your Cool (Pro Longwear) and Too Faced Up in Smoke, which has slightly dark brown undertones. I don’t wear grey nail polish, so all my “faves” are eye shadows.

I’m liking Cargo’s single eyeshadow in Flint right now; it’s a matte medium grey with just a hint of brown in it, and it’s actually in that very narrow (for me) window where I can use it in the crease OR use it as a corner/liner shade.

I think my favorite stormy grey is Julep’s polish in Lisa. I also love Sephora by OPI in Break a Leg Warmer, which is sadly discontinued now that Sephora is revamping their polish line.

You can now find Raindrops in Sephora stores in Toronto, and in the larger Hudson’s Bay stores (Sherway Gardens & Yonge/Queen both have full Illamasqua counters now). The Bay also carries it for $17 – a LOT cheaper than Sephora. 😀

I love going gray once in a while! Especially when I want to impress someone but not come off seductive. I usually add hues of blue to highlight my eyes and not look too depressing. My favorite to use is the Sephora gray and black palette. It also includes and gray with sparkles. I like to apply that around the corner of my eye to bring some extra attention.
