I’ll have to check this out since it’s been recommended multiple times now! I’ve only done one at-home waxing, and let’s say NEVER AGAIN! was my sentiments afterwards.
For me, any beeswax based product is fine. Even the cheaper stuff from Sally’s.
Often I’m just too lazy to go all out and wax, so I tend to use Veet – the sensitive skin variety.
Does Veet do a good job? How long does it last before you get a lot of growth?
I’ve always been curious about cream bikini removers.
I’ve tried alot…I’m onto Gigi right now, the microwaveable kind stinks. So I’m going to suck it up and buy a warmer and tub of wax, like the professionals use. I love a good wax from the salon, but can’t keep spending $50+ every few months..

I think for the summer months, spending $50 would be worth it, at least compared to shaving, lol!
Shaving is the worst down there– it leaves you with 5’oclock shadow and grows back so fast & stubbly- such a waste. Waxing is worth it– can leave you bare for at least 4 weeks.
I agree 100% with Robin. Gigi is the best! My mom owns a salon and has used Gigi from day one. I personally prefer their chocolate wax.

She also uses the chocolate wax. I use it all the time and on EVERYTHING: eyebrows, upper lip, underarm, arms, legs, and yes bikini too. I love it because it’s not as harsh as the regular beeswax, yet it never fails to remove all hair. It also smells so good and when you heat it up, the aroma fills the room up with a chocolate scent. However ladies, use caution when waxing or you’ll never look into waxing again. Some tips that may be helpful are:
1) Dust baby powder over the area that you are waxing to ensure that the wax will adhere to your hair.
2) When applying the wax, blow on it to cool before applying to avoid burning yourself.
3) Apply a thin layer of wax in the direction of your hair growth.
4) Put a muslin strip over the wax and press firmly, stroking the strip multiple times.
5) Pull the strip so that you are pulling opposite from the growth of your hair, making sure that you are holding your skin taut at the end that you pull from.
6) To ease the pain, quickly apply pressure over the area with your palm.
7) If there is wax residue, use the strip to remove it or use Wax-Off by Gigi. Baby oil also removes wax easily, but if you have sensitive skin, it may make you break out.

Well, I’m not a good adviser of hair-removal at home. I’ve tried all the creams, gels and waxing strips. And especially the creams, how I wanted them to work!
Unfortunately, no matter how long I would leave them on, and no matter how hard I would scrape them off, at the end I still had loads of hairs stubornly hanging on. So, invariably I would end up just shaving them off. Soon enough I turned to professional waxing and never left.
Still, for an emergency I would buy wax or wax strips (Veet). They are softer on your skin and you get a better immediate and long term result. They are a lot of work though, and that’s why I stick to paying somebody else to do it. lol
Sounds like me! I use Veet too. Their pre-waxed strips work pretty well for me. It’s the least messiest of all waxes- no dripping,uneven application, etc; especially when you’re doing areas like the back of your legs. Just smooth on and yank lol.
I realised the difference between a good salon wax and amazing salon wax recently when I tried a new place. The waxes I got at the latter (legs, brazilian) were so much more comfortable.
I’d definitely advice everyone to “shop” around for a good waxing salon. When you find one that’s really good, stick to it and request for the same therapist everytime you make a booking.

I definitely agree with your advice. That’s why I’ve sticked to same therapist that did my ever first waxing when I was 15. I’ve tried other places, who were more convenient when I moved away, but the results varied from having my underwear sticking because of left over wax (not fun!) to a clumsy therapist who, ripping away the wax on the wrong direction (dumbass!!!) left a permanent mark.
After those experiences I faithfully went back to my first therapist, book my appointments my sms (I’m studying abroad) and when I fly back home, I go across the city just to do a waxing. 🙂
What should I look for when trying to find a good waxing salon?
A friendly therapist who communicates well and answers all questions. One who checks on you during the process is good too (is the wax too hot? any sore areas? etc).
Definitely a place that has therapists who are trained well. I noticed less tugging on my skin at the better place. Also she didn’t have to go over the same areas as much, which means the therapist is both skilled and the quality of the wax they use is good. She stretched the skin properly, sometimes getting me to help in certain areas, changing leg positions, etc.
I also liked that she didn’t give me the sales pitch at the end of a session eventhough they had their own brand of waxes and after-wax care products.
I also learnt that the most expensive place isn’t always the best 🙂
Have you girls noticed a difference in pain corresponding to different times of your monthly cycle? It’s weird how much of a difference it makes!
Yes they say NEVER get waxed right before or during your period– the best time is right after.
I have very sensitive skin, and I’ve never waxed before, only shaved. Does Veet work well? Is it comfortable? And my hair grows very fast, would it still lasts for around 4 weeks?
That sucks! I’ve only tried at-home waxing for down there once, and I thought I was going to die, LOL.
i second bliss ‘poetic waxing kit’! the wax seems to bother my skin much less than the wax they’ve used at the salons i’ve tried. it lasts a really long time too!

I have never even attempted to wax at home. If I did I’d buy a wax heater and do it like a pro. Anything else, I haven’t heard the greatest things.

I’d ask your friends and family, depending on where you live. Also, Allure Magazine always does salon “best of” services each month. See who/where they list for waxing services. Also, try yelp.com- they are a great word of mouth resource for references. I would only get a bikini wax from a real salon, not a cheap nail salon where they offer $7 lip waxes…NO, get the real deal even if it will cost you $$$. Get it done at the salon a few times, then if you are feeling brave, try at do it at home treatment!

but do wax my brows. I bought a gigi pot and warmer intending to do my own legs etc and i made a hot sticky mess and it was just so messy running down the sides of the warmer etc..ugh.
So i shelled out (a ton) for laser. I started in december 07 and i’m loving the results.
I get my eyebrows waxed at a salon. Hurts like a mofo. I was wondering if she put bikini wax on mybrows lol
but theylook good so pain shmain.
i’ve tried it all tho and no good products torecommend. I’m sugarged and hot waxed cold waxed microwave,strips,hair remover nuttin works for me myhair is soooooo coarse! I leave it to the pros. Sigh 🙁 Also not willing to walk around with hairs that need to grow out for it to be long enough to be waxable…ew. ok rant over LOL

I hate waxing, at home or in the salon. It’s just so painful! But I do it anyhow because it beats the hell out of shaving. The price we pay for beauty, huh? I tried the beeswax home kit once and it scarred me (emotionally). Just horrible. So I’ll pay the money to get a good wax every 4 months or so.
I look for someone who is gentle, patient and who will talk to me. LOL. someone friendly. I talk to them before I make an appointment to see if I get good vibes about her. I found a really good one some months ago. she was great!

Why do I never see epilators talked about with hair removal? It’s like a well kept secret by the industry or something. You do it about once a week, and like wax, it pulls the hair out. At first it hurts a bit butyou get used to it. They cost about $60-70, you can get them at Target or Kmart over by the electric shavers. It’s expensive but you save a lot of salon cost over time. Just like wax, it pulls the hair out and lasts a LOT longer than shaving. It has a ceramic rotating wheel with lots of tiny tweezers and the hair comes out like magic. You can use it all over your body except I’m not sure how it would work in the eyebrow area. I have the Braun-silk epilator. Used to have the emjoi which I didn’t like quite as much. The Braun has a light which helps a lot. Be sure to exfoliate in between to eliminate in-grown hairs! The hair thing is such a drag isn’t it ladies?!!!!
