Clarisonic Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing System Review, Photos

Clarisonic MIA

Clarisonic Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing System

Clarisonic Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing System ($149.00) is the latest launch from Clarisonic. It is a miniature-sized version of the original Clarisonic, and it is also $45 cheaper. It’s also available in pink.

You may wonder how this possibly can be part of Money Saving Mondays… because I know the Clarisonic can be a hefty investment for some who really want it, this does offer you a way to get it for less. It is also just as effective as the original, more expensive Clarisonic, so it represents true savings.

First, Clarisonic has a really useful comparison chart for the four models: Mia, Classic, PLUS, and PRO. The Clarisonic Mia is about an inch and a half to two inches smaller the the original, and it doesn’t feel as bulky. The Mia comes with a pLink charger whereas the Classic used a cradle charger, which makes it a lot more compact. The Mia brush head is the same size as the Classic, so you don’t lose anything in how well it cleans or the area it cleans.

Surprisingly, the Mia feels heavier compared to the Classic, but not by much (note that neither are, by any means, heavy). When you opt for the Mia, you have only a single speed setting, whereas the Classic provided you with two. Since I’ve used the Classic forever now, I can say that it’s not a big deal, and it wouldn’t surprise me if you didn’t even know you had two speeds on yours! The Mia also only lasts twenty minutes on a full charge compared to the Classic which lasts thirty minutes. Again, this is not really an essential difference to me; twenty minutes is still ten or so uses, which is plenty on a single charge.

I recommend you read my original review for the Clarisonic to get a more in-depth look at why I really love the cleansing system and recommended it even at $195. In brief, it is an easy, efficient way of cleansing the skin. It helps with skin turnover and keeps my skin clearer and smoother looking overall. I’m not often sold on advertising claims, but the Clarisonic is one beauty gadget I can’t live without!

  • Product: 9/10
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 9/10
  • Packaging: 9/10

Recommendation: If you want to get your skin its best shape, the Clarisonic can help. It gives skin a softer, smoother appearance while deep cleansing every time you use it without irritating even sensitive skin. If $145 is still out of your budget, consider looking out for F&F sales at Sephora where you can save another 10-15%. Or put it on your wish list!

I am always intrigued by this product at Sephora, but never have enough $$$ to spend for just one thing. I am wondering how soft or rough are the bristles? If this works for me, it would definitely be a worthwhile investment in the long term because I am always double cleansing, especially when I do wear foundation. All the extra cleansing, wiping and toning can be drying for my already dehydrated skin.

love Avatar

The bristles are soft, trust me I was a skeptic, until I finally shelled out the dollars to purchase this product.
It was hard for me but one day I walked into to Sephora and bought it.
IMO, I think its worth the investment 🙂

Thanks Christine, I have been struggling with acne for years, but I’m doing a combination of things to keep it under control- antibiotics, IS clinical (really expensive IMO), Klaron etc
I have noticed somewhat of a decrease in pore size and smoother skin texture 🙂

No problem! 🙂 I have the same battle… I even spent months where I used a very basic, slimmed down skincare routine and wore face makeup *very* seldom and only for a few hours if I did. Still didn’t improve. I’ve since been on some rx, but still no real improvement 🙁 I think it’s hormones that have changed up my skin and made it all boo! hiss! again. Argh, acne. Where’s the miracle cure?

love Avatar

I wish there was one, I think hormones has a lot to do with. I didn’t have acne in my adolescence and its so weird I’m getting it in my adult years. I have noticed some improvement…Birkram Yoga is my new obsession, I have heard that yoga is a healer. Try it, it can reduce stress 🙂 which helps improve your well-being dramatically

Temptalia is referring to Sephora’s Friends & Family sale, which I believe usually happens around Christmas time where you can take an additional 20% off their products online or in store with a special F&F code.

sprut Avatar

I picked the regular one up at Skinstore.com and they have 20% off every couple months you just have to sign up for emails. I’m not sure if they’re selling Mia.

TT Avatar

It’s crazy that you would post this, because QVC just aired the MIA like Wednesday or Thurdsay of last week, the cost was broken down into 5 easy pays, I tried to get my order in for the advance order shipment, but just got an email that they may not be able to fulfill the order. *sad face* Hopefully they will air this item before Christmas, and include the easy pays!!!

Frankly, I’m not rushing to spend $150 on ANYTHING. Also, I find it odd that it shares its branding with a certain eating disorder’s pet name amongst sufferers 😡

I’m a guy I’ve used this for a week now and my skin looks really good I used to get shave bumps on my neck and I don’t get them any more I have good skin this just made it even better I get compliments on my skin first time I used it I was rinsing the cleanser off my skin and it felt so smooth and clean my skin had never felt like that after cleansing before I use the normal brush I ordered mine from qvc it was $126 plus tax free ups ground shipping broken down into 3 easy payments came with 3 1. oz cleansers and two brush heads a normal and the gentle one stop reading reviews and just buy one try qvc they have a great return policy some times they offer flex pay if you dont like it send it back

This is way off topic, but I just picked up a mascara today.

Givenchy’s Phenomen-eyes, It’s a bit steep $28 (I know…) Did you do a review on this?? It truly is phenomenal!
lol

I was so scared to pay this much money also, but now I have had my Clarisonic for over a year & I seriously could not live without it. I wish it wasn’t so expensive but it is definitely worth it. I got mine on QVC with the easy pays so it made it a little easier to afford. Glad you love it too Christine!!

I just got the mia from qvc but have used a few times and loved but when it came time to charge, it hasn’t worked since then. Has that been a problem with the mia. It has been charging now for 3 days and all it does is beep 3 times but nothing else.

Kara Avatar

I just ordered my Mia off ebay a few weeks ago (I highly recommend looking on ebay if you’re trying to get a Clarisonic for less – most are brand new, and you can save $25-$75). My skin tone looks more even, and the blackheads all over my nose have shrunk/degunked quite a bit.
I think the only thing I don’t like about the Mia is that it doesn’t beep when it’s time to move to another area of your face. I don’t feel like I’m cleaning everything evenly, because I never count to myself. I wish there was an indicator to change parts of the face1

I purchased the Mia from QVC and I charged it once and the second time it wouldn’t charge at all so I called Clarisonic (NOT QVC) and they are sending me a completely new one free and in the same box, I will return the one that coesn’t charge. No questions asked. It was amazing.

Just an update to Canadians. The Clarisonic MIA is now available at The Shopping Channel(www.theshoppingchannel.com). =) I have never seen Sephora Canada stock it, then if you try to order it online it is Canada restricted. It also includes a few bonus items and you can use Easy pay to make it more affordable (up to 10 if you have their credit card, online you can get 5 easy pays on the MIA). I ordered one and it is due to arrive sometime next week. They also stock the classic for the same price as Sephora Canada in store. Hope that helps! 🙂

Christine Avatar

Either – to be honest, they’re very much the same, just the Mia seemed slightly heavier (even though it’s smaller!) and it is about $50 cheaper. I’d probably go with the Mia since it’s cheaper. Mia or Plus, probably skip the regular!

milla Avatar

i was just looking for reviews on this product because qvc is selling it for today only for $119, free shipping and 3 payments (over three months). i’ve been curious about it and now that it’s this reasonable, i thought i’d give it a try. they have it in four colors. i got the yellow one.

Marissa B Avatar

Can you remove the cord on the MIA when you want to use it, or is it always attached? I’ve seen reviews on these a lot lately and I think I really want one! Getting the more expensive one seems pointless though if the smaller one does the same thing….plus it’s pink!

Maui Avatar

Hi Christine!
I have combo and acne type skin and I’ve heard that during the first few weeks, expect to break out because it cleans all the dirt that caused the acne and after it’s “clean”, breakouts will decrease? Do you know if this is true? I just bought this a week ago and I’m loving how much my skin is soft but my T-zone is craaaaazy 🙁

anonymous Avatar

maybe a silly Q but what are the 2 speeds on the clarisonic and which of them is on the mia?? they say 1 speed vs 2 but never say what the difference is or which they skipped which seems like an obvious question.

Sophia Avatar

Hi Christine,

First of all, nice site! I’ve ended up here several times by googling various things, and I always enjoy your content. Thanks!

Two- I used to have a Clarisonic Plus, gave it away, and recently I missed it, so I got myself the Mia. It’s cuter and I never futzed with speed settings or timers or anything. BUT I was disappointed by how loud it was. Do you find the Mia is noisier than the Classic?

alex the health Avatar

My clarisonic has changed my skin forever ! I could never live without it ! Now, everytime i walk into some beauty products store people ask me what i do to my skin because it looks amazing ! It truly makes me happy.

Ericka Avatar

I was wondering which one was better. I am stuck on buying the Mia and the Plus at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale since you get way more items than you normally would. Should I get the Plus or the Mia? Can you use the Mia on your body? How long does the Clarisonics last? The Plus is a big investment at $225.

Christine Avatar

Hi Ericka,

You could, but the brush head might feel too small. I have never used the PLUS so I could not really say much more. I don’t think lasting power is a real concern – have not heard much about it breaking or anything like that from readers over time.

grace Avatar

i dont have this but have SIGMA cleaning and polishing tool! its been really good so far and was only $35USD
had to buy it, cuz im in New Zealand and we dont have anything like it!

cristina Avatar

Hi, i am going to buy the clarasonic mia w/ the F&F sephora discount i just dont know much about it. like what do you use it with..? wich one should i buy?

Aleisha Avatar

This is good to know. I have tried everything from Burt’s Bees but its way to oily. I’ve tried every product too at Whole Foods. I do the at home facial with the Riiviva Microdermabrasion tool for my acne scarring and it’s terrific. It’s here at http://www.riiviva.com.

Do you have any recommendations as to what avenue to take for moisturizing; without all the oily residue that happens when I use oils.

Thanks!
