Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Dekadent & Mein Herr Lip Tar Stained Gloss Reviews, Photos, Swatches
OCC Dekadent Lip Tar Stained Gloss
OCC Dekadent Lip Tar Stained Gloss ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “translucent crushed blueberry.” It’s a pink-tinged violet–much like what you’d see if you did in fact crush blueberries. On my lips, this translated to a cool-toned, medium-dark pink color with a subtly glossy finish. It has a thinner texture than the average gloss, but it’s not too thin. It’s non-sticky and a little gel-like on. This shade wore for well for four hours, but it didn’t have any real, long-lasting stain. Unlike other shades in the Lip Tar Stained Gloss range, this one is very sheer (just as described), so depending on what you’re looking for, this may be more or less your style than the rest of the range. This type of sheerness always seems to leave my lips looking somewhat splotchy and uneven. Revlon Sugar Violet is sheerer. Bobbi Brown Electric Violet has shimmer. See comparison swatches.
Mein Herr Lip Tar Stained Gloss ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “creme fraiche beige.” It’s a light, peachy-beige with subtle warm undertones. It had semi-opaque color coverage, but this shade settled into every lip line. From afar, it isn’t as noticeable, because the color is more opaque than not and glossy, but it’s there and I wish that it wasn’t. This is an issue that tends to happen with paler beige glosses. It lasted four hours. MAC Calypso Beat is pinker. Chanel Zephyr is shimmery. MAC Liquid Passion is similar. NARS Buenos Aires is shimmery, less warm-toned. MAC Ready or Not is more opaque. MAC Peachstock is similar. MAC Fashion Whim is also similar. See comparison swatches.
Both shades will be available at Sephora on August 27th.

I’ve just had my first experience with these lip tars (the shade was Pretty Boy) and I was so disappointed. I guess I had the idea that these lasted for hours but the first time I wore it (applied by the Sephora SA and I think she used too much of the base/gloss underneath it), it wore off as soon as I had a coffee (15 minutes later!). I’ve used it a few times since (with and without the base) and was less than impressed with how long it lasted. Some of these colours appeal to me but I don’t think I’ll be bothering with these since they don’t last nearly as long as I was expecting.
These seem to be a real love it or hate it product. Sadly I’m in the hate it category even though I really like the company’s values. They also do not last long on me and are super drying. So sad about dekadent, it’s so sheer.
That’s the thing – I was prepared for “dry” and was willing to deal with that in order to have the “long lasting” effect, even just for the day of my daughter’s wedding. But I can get drying and long-lasting in some of those drugstore 2-step products (I have one of the originals – Maybelline, I think). I was just so surprised that this didn’t last at all well but it seems I’m not alone in this.
I don’t own any of the matte Lip Tars, but I do have Stained Gloss in “New Wave.” Like Mariella, I was rather underwhelmed by the product’s staying power, especially since the word “stained” appears in the name.
It also isn’t very moisturizing. I’ve found that my favorite way to wear “New Wave” is to rub a tiny amount (it *is* very pigmented) into my lips, blot, re-apply, and top with a clear gloss. This way, I achieve a face-brightening sheer “pop” of bright color – great for warm weather.
Dekadent is such a pretty colour, and I realise it is supposed to be that sheer, but I would definitely be much more likely to buy a more opaque version.
I have never understood how a nude or white based shade can supposedly stain lips. These don’t seem as fun as the other Stained Glosses.
Well…on second thought… pass! Thanks as always, Christine 😀
Meh.
The Calypso Beat from Mac is my favorite. I really enjoy this color.
I really like Dekadent. I don’t mind it being sheer, but I just wish it was a touch more opaque.
Kind of bummed I was really liking the color in the tube and was thinking Dekadent would be slightly more opaque…both are a pass for me.
Dekadent is gorgeous for just a little something on lips.
Dekadent is way too sheer for my taste but I love how Mein Herr looks on you!
Not related, but I LOVE your earrings in this picture!
Thank you!
Wow, I expected these to have more pigmentation.
I wish Dekadent was more opaque. I do like the color it gives to the lips, but just wish there were a bit more of it. I actually like Mein Herr more than I thought I would, given the color. Even with the settling, it’s not a bad color.
Love the dekadent, so pretty!
Are these supposed to stain though? I thought the name “stained gloss” was more of a play of “stained glass” which is what the formula is supposed to represent. Pigmented but still translucent and glossy.
Hey Brianna!
Here’s what it says on OCC’s website: “OCC’s Lip Tar: Stained Gloss™ is our newest texture option from the Lip Tar™ range, combining the hyper-opacity of Lip Tar™ with a casual glossy finish that’s ready-to-wear from its first slick application to the high impact stain it leaves behind. ” [Emphasis added.]
I’ve tried one Stained Gloss (“New Wave”), and while it is fairly well-pigmented and concentrated, I’m just not seeing the “the high impact stain it leaves behind.”
Okay, it did stain my sloppy sweatpants when I wiped my finger on them, but my aim was to stain my lips, and that didn’t happen.
I am glad you posted swatches. Thank Youuuuu. I wanted dekadent (or so I thought) but I will be passing on it AND the others 🙁
Dekadent looks like it might be for me, especially if I mixed in a bit of “New Wave,” which I already own.
I’ll have to pass on Mein Herr, though.
