Illamasqua Sadist Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “matte bright royal blue.” It’s a rich, deep, medium-dark blue–there’s a little indigo/purple that tints it so it looks very cool-toned. It had a matte finish, and the color payoff was quite good. The texture was soft, finely-milled but not powdery–yet still blendable and had a lot of pigmentation. It lasted for nine hours without creasing or fading, but there was some residual staining after I removed it. Sephora My Boyfriend’s Jeans is shimmery and darker. Sugarpill Velocity is similar but slightly lighter. Urban Decay Chaos is similar in color but has some shimmer. NARS Rated R #2 is much lighter. NARS Outremer is darker. Sugarpill Royal Sugar is a touch brighter and shimmery. Inglot #388 is darker, less blue. See comparison swatches.

Vulgar Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “bright flame orange, matt finish.” It’s a brightened, slightly lightened medium orange with a matte finish and warm, yellow undertones. It had really nice color payoff, and it applied smoothly and evenly. The texture was lovely; soft, finely-milled, but not at all powdery, and still it was easy to apply and blend out on the lid. Vulgar wore well for eight hours–no fading or creasing–and after nine hours, I noticed some slight fading. Disney Rajah is more shimmery, slightly darker. Maybelline Fierce & Tangy is a bit lighter and a cream product. MAC Rule is darker. Chanel Pearl River #4 is lighter, more shimmery. Make Up For Ever #10 is darker, bolder, and a cream product. See comparison swatches.

I’m with you. I basically ignore their products because the names are so awful. The nail polish called “Taint” basically sealed the deal for me. Not everything needs to be “Cherries in the Snow” girly-cutesy but some decorum is appreciated.

Well, if you think about it a bit, “Cherries in the Snow” can be pretty bad, too… “Sadist” is not only related to sex, neither is “Vulgar”, which can be used to describe many things. As for “Taint”, if used as a verb, it’s not graphic, at all.

Agree, I don’t get a sexual connotation from either name. More of a “dangerous” one.

I don’t think “Taint” was used in the manner that some think, at all. It’s used in the verb form like you said :).

But it’s the same with Nars. Deep Throat, Orgasm? And why should sexual innuendos be the only thing they have to look out for. I don’t get all grumpy when I have to buy a piece of makeup with a girly-girl name even though it’s in contrast to my identity. Or boycott OPI because of their bad puns.

Really weird thing to make a decision over, it’s just a damn name.

Are the names vulgar? Yeah. I don’t care because I pretty much never pay attention to the names once something is in my drawer. What I do care about is these look like some gorgeous mattes. Not colors I need, mind, but a good matte is always appreciated!

Hey Christine! I just dropped by here after not having visited for a little while and wow new things again! Anyway, my point was to come and tell you how grateful I am for all the hard work and commitment that you put into this blog. You never let it fall behind and are always improving and finding ways to make it even better. I really appreciate it, and I know all the others do too! You’re an amazing woman. =)

It’s been enough to hear names like Sin and Selfish (and i own some of them!), making it out as if they were some wonderful qualities, but Sadist??? seriously? I dont mean to sound prudish, but it’s very off-putting. Why are they trying to popularize these concepts?
