5 Soft Brown Eyeshadows to Be Sweet On
5 Soft Brown Eyeshadows to Be Sweet On
Rich browns are absolutely gorgeous to wear and especially to look at, but softer, lighter browns can be beautiful, too! Soft and light enough that they’re not rich or dark, but not so light that they become more beige than brown.
- Burberry Pale Barley — light-medium golden brown with a gray cast
- Buxom Mutt — medium brown with a hint of taupe
- Bare Escentuals Guru — almost a cool-toned soft brown
- Urban Decay Suspect — medium warm brown with a soft gold-bronze sheen
- Urban Decay Naked — light-medium neutral-warm brown with a matte finish
I really love Suspect and was so happy that it was included in the Naked 2 palette. I also really like Too Faced’s Teddy Bear which looks like MAC Wedge in the pan but for some reason it works so much better on me.
I like the Urban Decay eyeshadow. Sleek makeup also has a couple of nice soft browns in their I-Divine palettes, in different tones and ranging from matte to shimmery.
I’ll try to use UD Suspect someday (I have it on my Naked 2 palette) to see how it shows on me 🙂 I like to wear neutrals (especially @ office) so I’ll give it a try!
I love MAC Patina. It’s one of the few colors by MAC that I return to again and again because it’s so unique and beautiful.
Ahhh Burberry Pale Barley, you WILL be mine…
UD Suspect is probably my favorite ‘everyday’ shadow. I use it in the crease!
I’m really loving NARS Blondie lately, which is funny since I bought just because I thought it would be a nice staple to have. The color is very unique in that although it’s a yellow-based brown, it also has a slight grey tone to it. Another one (though it’s been neglected for some time) is MAC Patina. At some point this week I’ll try the two together.

@xamyx Portobello is a great everyday duo, so is Madrague, which I probably use more out of the two.
Hmmm..I had Blondie on eBay watch and it was cheap then thought ‘meh.. maybe I need to rethink!
Naked is my favorite highlight color. I have it in my Naked palette and I own a single too because I wear it every day.
I’m a huge fan of UD Suspect and MAC Wedge. These two colors are real everyday, go-to shades for me. That Pale Barley is really lovely too though.
suspect is a great natural color! i love it in my ud naked 2 ~
Mid brown is such a great way to draw attention to any really bright colour. It works with everything and probably the most finicky shade to buy in my opinion. Getting is right is a challenge as they can turn yellowy/orangey/taupey/ashy.. I’ve gone through a lot of misses in this category. I’m eyeballing the UD brown at the bottom except I’m dissin’ them right now 😛
@wwendalynne why are you dissing them?
@nikkiw283 Hi Nikki! Oh, just the whole crap about selling in China definitely put me off of the brand. I hate people doing things under false pretenses and trying to make out like they are doing something good and thinking we’re stupid enough to fall for it. That’s how I feel about their press releases anyway…
I’m surprised that there aren’t any MAC colors on here! I haven’t tried the UD shadows, but they look great.
I don’t think I could live without MAC Wedge. It’s so hard for me to find the right soft brown for my skin tone. Most of the time they are way too warm/yellow (popular ones like UD Naked and MAC Soft Brown look so bad on me) or they lean taupe and wash me out. MAC Patina is great if you want a soft brown with a twist, it’s a great shadow to spice up a neutral look.
Urban Decay “Toasted”…it’s a soft, shimmery warm brown with hints of pink/lavender/peach. I wear it as a wash but my favorite way is to wear it in the crease with MAC Yogurt on the lid and Espresso in the outer V with dark brown liner. It brings out the pinky cool tones in it. It’s similar to MAC All That Shimmers but with more depth (IMO).
I also really like MAC Era and Malt.
My favorite soft brown is urban decays naked for sure, because I am very pale. It is still very flattering on me 🙂
For a true brown, I love theBalm’s Matt Gallagher from the Meet Matt(e) palette, but I’m also rather liking Milani’s powder eyeshadow in Pearl as a nude shade for my eyes. (It’s pale enough that I’m not sure if it counts as a soft brown, but it isn’t quite a beige, either.)
I love UD Naked, but I really want to try the Burberry Pale Barley!
