Pat McGrath Sublime Mothership Eyeshadow Palette ($125.00 for 0.47 oz.) is the most versatile and easiest to use palettes of Pat McGrath’s Mothership palettes in the permanent range. The tones just work particularly well since they run rather warm-toned and most of them are more neutral than not. There are also less over-the-top shimmer/glitter finishes in it, so they layer and combine more readily, too.

About This Series

Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate brow bone or additional transitional shade based on skin tone. I know that I tend to use more like five or six shades in a typical look, but I think that four is a happy medium to give a good idea of the “core” color scheme of a look while giving you the ability to lighten/darken as desired. I have listed the colors in this order: inner lid, middle of lid, outer lid/crease, and crease/above crease.

You might see combinations that seem slightly repeated but placement will vary (e.g. a halo placement where the lightest and more shimmery shade is placed on the center) as placement can also create a different effect/look! You might also want to consider incorporating your favorite matte/shimmer shades (as applicable) to increase the versatility of certain palettes. Consider these ideas a jumping off point!

I am loving this addition to the blog. I know this must have added a lot of additional work to your already busy schedule, Christine, but it is really a wonderful addition. There are some days when you just don’t have the time to try different combinations and figure out placement but with this all I have to do is look and pick a combination! Thank you so much.

Ditto!!!! Palette design with a brand that has textures and quality like those of Natasha Denona, Pat McGrath or even the young lady that’s new to me Linda Hallberg. know, we want it all! Great combo, excellent quality at a reasonable price. 😉

This is great Christine! I am still waiting to be able to buy them in France (because of the FedEx issue shipping from he states), so you looks ideas are great for when finally I’ll be able to buy the one I want, which seems to be the one that less people like, the Mothership I, Subliminal.

I some day want to own all Pat McGrath palettes. They are works of art in themselves, IMHO, of course.
I really like to see how you are thinking up a look, interesting, fun and educating.
Now I must say the green shade in this palette is so gorgeous it makes my heart beat a little faster.

I absolutely love these idea posts. I have this palette (and many others in these posts you’ve done) and constantly struggle with look ideas. It’s frustrating to look at these beautiful palettes and not be able to use it to its potential when I’ve invested so much of my money! Thank you, Christine!
