Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick ($34.00) comes in a variety of eighteen shades. They range from pale to bright, beige to berry. The formula is described as “light and covering, the cream texture becomes fluid on contact with the lips, for a delightful feeling and an exceptional gliding effect.” The packaging is obviously luxe with its golden tubes and elaborately designed ring that overlays the lipstick “shade.” On the top of each tube is a mirror, which, while small, is usable when you need a touch up.
Let me tell you why I LOVED these babies! This is, quite possibly, the creamiest, most pigmented, and deliriously glossy formula I have ever tried. All six colors were rich in color and hue, and they were spot-on in terms of what you see is what you get. So, they’re creamy (meaning they glide on like a dream), but they’re moisturizing and not in the least bit drying to boot! Glossiness? Oh, yes, indeed. It has such a glossy, reflective finish that makes you think there must be a gloss on top, but nope, that’s just the lipstick by itself.
I always wear gloss on top of my lipstick, because I love shine and glossy finishes–but I’ve been wearing these colors all by their lonesome and loving it! Of the six I have, my favorites are Caress Pink, Forbidden Burgundy, and Peach Passion. Tomorrow, after I do some swatching at MAC, I’ll be checking out the YSL counter to see if any others catch my fancy! And no, I don’t care one whit that these are $34 a pop. I consider them worth it! (P.S. – Cremesheen? After experiencing these, you have a lot to live up to!)
See a TON of packaging photos, lip swatches, and skin swatches!

Ooooh I can’t wait to check these out today! Hopefully some of the other colors they have are more wearable though – I agree with you that the Caress Pink is the best from your 6. So did they send these to you to try? It was probably worth it, cuz it’ll get me to buy some :-P

wow, the first of its kind! YSL is truly the starter of innovation. I’ve seen aqualumiere lipgloss, but these lipsticks are creamy, moisuturizing and glossy, I think this should be called the real 3-in-1 lipstick. I almost couldnt believe it when I saw the pictures. WOW, at last some advanced makeup formula for some practical use!
thanks for informing us!
Christine

I love these lipsticks SO much. I just can’t get over it.

Thursday, September 25, 2008
These are my DREAM lipsticks, totally opaque. Thanks for reviewing. I don’t like the cool light colours on you, it makes your skin tone look green; yikes! But the last three are warmer and much better!

wow………..those look GORGEOUS!! I have to say though, i just got the 1 cremesheen that i ordered, and it is UNBELIEVEABLE!!! It’s so much creamier than amplified cream lipsticks, and has GREAT color payoff!! i’ll stick with those for now (cause my wallet can’t fathom $34 for 1 lippie right now…..)
Christine
Friday, September 26, 2008
Really? I didn’t find them to be very creamy at ALL! :(

Agh I want all of these so, so bad.
When I got my Pur Black YSL gloss, they gave me a very neat sample of 4 of these. The bright red is killer.
The sample packagaing is awesome.. its like those flat foil gum packs where you pop the gum through the foil? Icebreakers I suppose?
The wells are large and all filled with this delicious lipstick, it came with a lip brush!
I love everything about them.. the scent the feel.
Christine

WOWZER! I totally dig the packaging. It’s calling the bling-bling demon in me. YSL was the first brand of lipstick I own and I’ve never been disappointed ever since. I go to MAC for variety but I never lost the love I have for YSL lipsticks. And Caress Pink, Forbidden Burgundy and Peach Passion hopefully will find a new home in my vanity case soon.
Christine
Friday, September 26, 2008
Haha, the bling bling demon! I’m getting addicted to YSL!

Friday, September 26, 2008

The very next day after seeing your review, I had to have one!!! Went to my nordstrom and bought the #1. Wore it out last night with a smoky eye, and I absouletely love it. Also, the girl gave me a little sample booklet that has #1, #8, #10, and #17. So glad you reviewed these.
Christine
Monday, September 29, 2008
Oh, nice! You’re so lucky to have scored the sample booklet ;) I’m also happy to hear you enjoyed it, too!! Nothing makes me happier then when I review something, a reader purchases, AND they like it, too.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008
they look fab on you Christine! Is forbidden burgundy less dark than it looks in the tube? I’ve been looking for a perfect plum color w/o too much cool purple tones in it and this might be it!
Christine
Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Thanks, Meme! It’s pretty much the same color it looks on my lips when swatched. It’s probably just a touch lighter than what you see in the tube, but I find they’re fairly accurate to “what you see is what you get.”

Thursday, October 2, 2008
Over $30.00 is a lot to pay for a lipstick (here in Canada they are $38.00 ouch!). But I just tried them on your recommendation & they are gorgeous! I think I’ll pick up #4.
Christine
Friday, October 3, 2008
I’m glad you liked them! They are definitely worth the splurge if you can afford it :) Or else, holidays!

Tuesday, November 11, 2008
OMG! I totally need #7! I have been looking for that color for such a long time… thank you Christine! Does the picture of you wearing it look exactly like it does in real life?
Christine
Tuesday, November 11, 2008
Yes! These photos are very true to color!
Caroline
Saturday, November 29, 2008
Hi again lol, is lingerie pink a dupe for Snob. I have snob but snob has more purple undertones whereas #7 looks to be a true bubblegum. COuld you help me out?
Christine
Wednesday, December 3, 2008
It’s similar, but this one is cool toned. When I think of bubblegum pink, I think of a warmer pink, so I don’t know if this one is what you’re looking for.

Sunday, March 15, 2009
These are absolutely amazing! I purchased a few and I feel like a queen. They really give out a punch color and are a creamy dream. I don’t think they are extremely long wearing, but there is just something superior about these lipsticks.
Christine
Thursday, March 19, 2009
So glad I’m not the only one who likes them!
Andrea
Thursday, March 19, 2009
I bought Nude Beige the other day and it is soooo creamy and long-lasting! I also got the Gloss Pur in Pure Coral, and looks pretty cool with the Nude Beige. I had actually gone with the intention of getting Peach Passion, but I chickened out cause it looked a little bright on my hand. Will definitely be going back now!!
Christine
Friday, March 20, 2009
I will have to try out the Pure Coral over my Rouge Voluptes! Glad you like ‘em Andrea :D

Thursday, June 25, 2009
I love them all ! So creamy. is there a MAC dupe for nude beige, caress pink and peach passion ???
Christine
Monday, June 29, 2009
Peach Passion might be similar to Ravishing. Caress Pink… maybe Sweetie, though it’s brighter. I’m not sure about Nude Beige.

Christine, please do a review on some of the other colours! Pink-based nudes don’t like me – I’m really interested in some of the other colours – particularly #2 Sensual Silk and #4 Sweet Honey. Also the new colours coming out with YSL’s autumn/winter collection!
Christine

Thursday, September 17, 2009
I was wondering do you have to reapply these lipsticks often? I heard that you had to and I am completely in love with number 13. I just wanted to know before I made that big of a purchase for a lip product.
Christine
Friday, September 18, 2009
Hi Tricia,
I don’t find myself reapplying these too often. If I want it to go all day, I may reapply once or twice, but nothing excessive.
Karen
Monday, September 28, 2009
Hi Christine,
Can you recommend a pink one for nc35 skin? I tried the famous #7 but it just doesn’t like my warm skin tone. I already bought #1 nude beige and also the peach passion, I really need to find the perfect pink one! thanks alotttt!!!
Christine
Tuesday, September 29, 2009
Frivolous Pink!! I think it came out for fall, but it’s gorgeous!
Val
Sunday, October 4, 2009
These are AMAZING. I have the first one and it is absolutely GORGEOUS. I really want more but I only got one because it was duty free and in a set so my mom got one and I got one and they’re absolutely PERFECT. I REALLY want more but they’re sort of hard to find in Canada.
Christine
Monday, October 5, 2009
So glad you’re lovin’ these two, Val! :)
Mandy
Sunday, October 18, 2009
I saw amazing reviews about these YSL lipsticks and i got the Lingerie Pink today. It is truly amazing. Very expensive but it is well worth it. I have never worn any lipstick that is that bright before. Do you have any recommendation for lip liner ? Thanks so much.
Christine
Monday, October 26, 2009
So glad you’re enjoying it, Mandy! I like using clear liner, actually, like UD’s!
Alisha
Thursday, October 29, 2009
Thank you so much for the swatches, really helped me out picking a color for sephora F&F sale!
Christine
Friday, October 30, 2009
No problem, Alisha!

Tuesday, November 24, 2009
Christine can you please help me out here! I can’t afford YSL at the moment but I love #1, #2, and #7. Can you tell me any dupe maybe to MAC’S lipsticks?
Christine
Monday, December 14, 2009
For #1, try Angel. For #7, try Snob. I’m not familiar enough with #2 to give you a dupe, sorry!
Margaret S.
Wednesday, December 2, 2009
I love these and am itching to finally get one for myself. Can you recommend the best one for fair cool skin tone? I’m an NW20 (maybe lighter now that it’s winter) with olive-colored eyes and brown hair. I’m eyeing the pinks, but the peach passion looks so unique too. How do you think the peach would look against my skin tone? It’s not available at my local sephora for me to swatch…. would you wear a gloss over it or on it’s own?
Christine
Thursday, December 3, 2009
I think Peach Passion would be very pretty on you, actually! :) I’d wear it on its own or with a gloss – maybe a red or coral gloss to deepen it or a pink gloss to make it more coral.
Jenny H.
Monday, December 14, 2009
I feel like #1 would be too pale on me since I have very pigmented lips (maybe kind of like shygirl-esque).. I wanted to try #2 sensual silk.. perhaps I’ll go try it in-store
Jenny H.
Monday, December 14, 2009
So, I just came back from Sephora.. and I tried the lipsticks in #2 Sensual Silk and #4 Sweet Honey (?)
First of all, OH MY GOSH.. I AM NOT LYING WHEN I SAY.. THEY ARE EXTREMELY SILKY AND CREAMY.. AND DELISH.
haha.. I couldn’t decide between #2 and #4 but I got #2 which is lighter and more unlike the lipsticks I already have.
#4 is going on the xmas list.
I have to admit they are very pricey and I would not have gotten them if I didn’t have $15 off a $35
CON: my boyfriend commented on how YSL probably spent most of their money on the packaging and the part of the lipstick tube that says YSL felt really cheap and loose and plasticky (perhaps it was just the tube that I have?)
Christine
Saturday, December 19, 2009
I’m so glad you’re lovin’ ‘em, Jenny!
I always liked the packaging – I guess it didn’t seem cheap at all to me (unless they’ve changed it in the past six months…). That’s so odd…
sizbelle
Tuesday, December 29, 2009
after this post, i would be aiming for #1, nude beige!
so far i got #3 and #13 (yes, the one you swatch!)
i agree 100% that they are highly pigment and VERY creamy!
def worth all cents..
Christine
Thursday, December 31, 2009
YAY!!
Nora
Sunday, January 3, 2010
Yes! I have one of these and it’s seriously the softest, most pigmented and creamy lipstick I’ve ever tried. They also smell and taste amazing, and the packaging is beautiful.
They don’t last very long, though. Which is bad considering they are so expensive, but applying them is so much fun. xD I think I’ll live, haha! <3
Christine
Monday, January 4, 2010
Aww ;)
