Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick is Phenomenal!

YSL Beauty Rouge Volupte Review

From left to right:  #1 Nude Beige, #7 Lingerie Pink, #8 Fetish Pink, #9 Caress Pink, #12 Forbidden Burgundy, #13 Peach Passion.  (The order remains the same for all photos!)

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick ($34.00) comes in a variety of eighteen shades.  They range from pale to bright, beige to berry.  The formula is described as “light and covering, the cream texture becomes fluid on contact with the lips, for a delightful feeling and an exceptional gliding effect.” The packaging is obviously luxe with its golden tubes and elaborately designed ring that overlays the lipstick “shade.”  On the top of each tube is a mirror, which, while small, is usable when you need a touch up.

Let me tell you why I LOVED these babies!  This is, quite possibly, the creamiest, most pigmented, and deliriously glossy formula I have ever tried.  All six colors were rich in color and hue, and they were spot-on in terms of what you see is what you get.  So, they’re creamy (meaning they glide on like a dream), but they’re moisturizing and not in the least bit drying to boot!  Glossiness?  Oh, yes, indeed.  It has such a glossy, reflective finish that makes you think there must be a gloss on top, but nope, that’s just the lipstick by itself.

I always wear gloss on top of my lipstick, because I love shine and glossy finishes–but I’ve been wearing these colors all by their lonesome and loving it!  Of the six I have, my favorites are Caress Pink, Forbidden Burgundy, and Peach Passion.  Tomorrow, after I do some swatching at MAC, I’ll be checking out the YSL counter to see if any others catch my fancy!  And no, I don’t care one whit that these are $34 a pop.  I consider them worth it!  (P.S. - Cremesheen?  After experiencing these, you have a lot to live up to!)

See a TON of packaging photos, lip swatches, and skin swatches!

Ooooh I can’t wait to check these out today! Hopefully some of the other colors they have are more wearable though - I agree with you that the Caress Pink is the best from your 6. So did they send these to you to try? It was probably worth it, cuz it’ll get me to buy some :-P

Christine

wow, the first of its kind! YSL is truly the starter of innovation. I’ve seen aqualumiere lipgloss, but these lipsticks are creamy, moisuturizing and glossy, I think this should be called the real 3-in-1 lipstick. I almost couldnt believe it when I saw the pictures. WOW, at last some advanced makeup formula for some practical use!

thanks for informing us!

Christine

These are my DREAM lipsticks, totally opaque. Thanks for reviewing. I don’t like the cool light colours on you, it makes your skin tone look green; yikes! But the last three are warmer and much better!

Christine

Yes, mine too, Kella :)

wow………..those look GORGEOUS!! I have to say though, i just got the 1 cremesheen that i ordered, and it is UNBELIEVEABLE!!! It’s so much creamier than amplified cream lipsticks, and has GREAT color payoff!! i’ll stick with those for now (cause my wallet can’t fathom $34 for 1 lippie right now…..)

Christine

Friday, September 26, 2008

Really? I didn’t find them to be very creamy at ALL! :(

Agh I want all of these so, so bad.
When I got my Pur Black YSL gloss, they gave me a very neat sample of 4 of these. The bright red is killer.

The sample packagaing is awesome.. its like those flat foil gum packs where you pop the gum through the foil? Icebreakers I suppose?

The wells are large and all filled with this delicious lipstick, it came with a lip brush!

I love everything about them.. the scent the feel.

Christine

My Pur Black arrives on Monday, so exciting :)

WOWZER! I totally dig the packaging. It’s calling the bling-bling demon in me. YSL was the first brand of lipstick I own and I’ve never been disappointed ever since. I go to MAC for variety but I never lost the love I have for YSL lipsticks. And Caress Pink, Forbidden Burgundy and Peach Passion hopefully will find a new home in my vanity case soon.

Christine

Friday, September 26, 2008

Haha, the bling bling demon! I’m getting addicted to YSL!

claudine

The very next day after seeing your review, I had to have one!!! Went to my nordstrom and bought the #1. Wore it out last night with a smoky eye, and I absouletely love it. Also, the girl gave me a little sample booklet that has #1, #8, #10, and #17. So glad you reviewed these.

Christine

Monday, September 29, 2008

Oh, nice! You’re so lucky to have scored the sample booklet ;) I’m also happy to hear you enjoyed it, too!! Nothing makes me happier then when I review something, a reader purchases, AND they like it, too.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

they look fab on you Christine! Is forbidden burgundy less dark than it looks in the tube? I’ve been looking for a perfect plum color w/o too much cool purple tones in it and this might be it!

Christine

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Thanks, Meme! It’s pretty much the same color it looks on my lips when swatched. It’s probably just a touch lighter than what you see in the tube, but I find they’re fairly accurate to “what you see is what you get.”

Thursday, October 2, 2008

Over $30.00 is a lot to pay for a lipstick (here in Canada they are $38.00 ouch!). But I just tried them on your recommendation & they are gorgeous! I think I’ll pick up #4.

Christine

Friday, October 3, 2008

I’m glad you liked them! They are definitely worth the splurge if you can afford it :) Or else, holidays!

Caroline

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

OMG! I totally need #7! I have been looking for that color for such a long time… thank you Christine! Does the picture of you wearing it look exactly like it does in real life?

Christine

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Yes! These photos are very true to color!

Caroline

Saturday, November 29, 2008

Hi again lol, is lingerie pink a dupe for Snob. I have snob but snob has more purple undertones whereas #7 looks to be a true bubblegum. COuld you help me out?

Christine

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

It’s similar, but this one is cool toned. When I think of bubblegum pink, I think of a warmer pink, so I don’t know if this one is what you’re looking for.
