Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Eyeshadow Palette
I purchased the palette online at Urban Decay on Friday, and it finally arrived here to me in California (they ship out from Florida, FYI!). For those interested in picking one up for themselves, both U.S. and Canadian Sephoras are taking phone orders. I know the U.S. number is 1-877-SEPHORA. Last I heard, Sephora would have it online around the 26th and retails for $52.
In the Book of Shadows, Alice in Wonderland style, you get sixteen eyeshadows, each weighing 0.03 oz. You also receive a miniaturized Primer Potion (0.13 fl. oz.) and two miniaturized 24/7 eye pencils (0.3 oz.) in Zero and Flipside.
It is important to note that the eyeshadows included in the palette are not new shades; they’re existing/previous shades re-named to fit in the Alice in Wonderland theme. That being said, if you own Urban Decay’s Ammo, Book of Shadows Vol. I/Vol. II, or the Sustainable Palettes, you may already own the majority of the shadows in the Alice in Wonderland kit. Below is a shadow-by-shadow review with the real-name of the eyeshadow in parentheses (for your reference).
Eyeshadows
- Underland (Flash) is a bright, cool-toned medium purple with an icy lilac shimmer. It’s soft, smooth, and richly pigmented.
- Alice (Painkiller) is a bright aqua-blue with an icy sheen. Like Underland, it’s smooth, silky soft, and has lots of pigment to it.
- Oraculum (Baked) is a warmed-up copper with a softer copper sheen. Smooth, soft, well-pigmented. I do find this one has a bit of a frostier finish than some of the other shades.
- Queen (Last Call) is a reddened eggplant with a burgundy edge. It has a frost-like sheen, but it is smooth and pigmented.
- Chessur (Chopper) is a cooler-toned, not nearly as bright, copper shade. It has the same soft texture as the majority of Urban Decay’s shadows, but it has silverish glitter particles that may contribute to some fall out in practice.
- White Rabbit (Polyester Bride) is a gently yellowed white (though still, very white) with a white-gold sheen. Like Chessur, it also has some glitter to it, so it’s not quite my favorite texture.
- Wonderland (Maui Wowie) is a tarnished gold, maybe an antique gold, but not quite so dark. It has a golden bronze sheen to it. It’s pigmented and smooth, but it also has a few glitter particles (though I think this is one of the more manageable glitter-based shades in the bunch).
- Curiouser (Grifter) is a lightened fuchsia-purple with icy purple sheen. It also has silverish glitter particles in it, which may lead to fall out. This is one of the lesser pigmented shades, though it still has decent color pay off.
- Muchness (X) is a peachy-melon with a gold sheen. It almost has a little mauve to it, in certain lighting. It reminded me of MAC’s Melon pigment quite a bit. This has a frosty finish, but it doesn’t have the glitter, so it’s smooth and easier to work with.
- Mushroom (Mushroom) is a taupe brown with kind of a silvery sheen and shimmer. It’s not quite as rich as some of the other shades, but it can be layered for a more intense look. (Don’t get me wrong, it has nice pigmentation–just not as intense as the other shades in this palette.)
- Midnight Tea Party (Midnight Cowboy Rides Again) is a flushed champagne with silver/gold glitter particles. This is quite possibly my least favorite Urban Decay eyeshadow. It is a pain in the behind to work with, because the glitter fall out is pretty insane. It’s a shame, because the color itself is pretty, but the glitter means “No, thank you!” for me.
- Vorapal (S&M) is a neutral, slightly cooled down silver with a brighter silver sheen. Smooth and pigmented.
- Absolem (Homegrown) is a grassy green with a golden shimmered sheen. Very pigmented and true-to-color.
- Drink Me, Eat Me (Sin) is a pinked champagne with a bright, frosty sheen. It’s like a pinker version of Midnight Tea Party–and sans all the glittery fall out.
- Mad Hatter (Twice Baked) is a lightly glittered dark brown with warm undertones. I don’t remember Twice Baked behing so lagging in pigment, but I really had to layer this one on to get a decent evenness. It gave me some drag and a faded look.
- Jabberwocky (Oil Slick) is a dark black base with icy blue and silver glitter. While not as prone to fall out as Midnight Tea Party, it’s still one of the glittery shades that may lead to some fall out while applying it.
Bottom Line: From the beginning, I’ve been a little disappointed that Urban Decay didn’t create some new shades for this palette, in light of the partnership between them and Alice in Wonderland. The names are certainly excellent and totally work with the theme, but I would have appreciated (and just loved to have seen!) brand new shades.
I like the shades and palette overall, but I think I already own the majority in various other palettes, too, so I’ll probably end up passing this on to my sister after I do some looks with it (well, hopefully!). I’m not a huge fan of Urban Decay’s more glittery shades (of which there are six, with one being exceptionally hard to work with) and tend to prefer their smoother shades. I think the palette could have done with a few matte or semi-matte shades, too, just to break up the frost and shimmer.
The packaging is very cohesive, and it looks good. It fits with the theme, but I think they put it together quite nicely. My lid won’t stay open, so it being used as a mirror is not happening as of yet. Since the theme, while well-done, isn’t a driver for me though, I probably would have passed on this palette under normal circumstances. It’s a better buy if you are looking to try a bunch of Urban Decay eyeshadows without investing in singles; it’s definitely a value palette if that’s the case!
Love it or hate it?

Saturday, January 23, 2010Thanks for the heads up about ordering over the phone! I had looked for it on UD’s website earlier this week and they’re sold out.

Saturday, January 23, 2010I want iiiiiiit !!!
Brian Kelly
Saturday, January 23, 2010I really want this so bad because I’m a die-hard Alice in Wonderland and Behind the Looking-Glass fan but like all the other MAC collections, there’s no chance of me even being able to own it.
Nicole
Saturday, January 23, 2010Luckily, this is NOT a must have for me! Yes! *Breathes a big sigh of relief* I still want to try out Urban Decay, but I think I’ll start with a 24/7 liner or two…
Haylie
Saturday, January 23, 2010You should get MUFE Aqua Eyes liner instead IMO. I originally got UD 24/7 first because of all the good reviews but it smudged on my like crazy since I have oily lids. Everyone always says that the MUFE isn’t as creamy as UD which is true but I think there is a point where it can be too creamy which is the UD liner. It’s not like the MUFE isn’t creamy but you can get a really thin line too.
Diana
Saturday, January 23, 2010Agree about your assessment of MUFE Aqua Eyes versus UD’s 24/7. 24/7 smudged like crazy on my eyes (which becomes super obvious with the bright colors). Aqua Eyes smudged a bit as well, but far from as much as 24/7.
Nicole
Saturday, January 23, 2010I have a couple MUFE liners right now, and I do like them. They last forever and smudge nicely on my upper lash line, but I’m not crazy about them for my lower lash line. I’m just curious on how UD will compare. I don’t have oily lids, so we’ll see! Thanks. :)
Samantha
Sunday, January 24, 2010What are the price points for MUFE and UD, to compare?

Saturday, January 23, 2010hahaha! Christine, we love you and your patience. :D

Saturday, January 23, 2010I love the packaging and the idea of this palette, but I’m with you on being disappointed about no new shades. It would have seemed much more special using LE colors. But I guess it’s great if you don’t already have these.
Rosie
Saturday, January 23, 2010I own all the palettes you mentioned. Only 3 shades aren’t in any of the palettes I own, so I passed on this. If I really wanted the 3 colors I would have already bought them single, that’s my thinking. While i think Alice is cute, I’ve always thought you have to be high to really get a kick out of the movie. It’s just so weird and looks weirder in the Tim Burton version.
Lydia
Saturday, January 23, 2010Thanks for this! I love it!
Connie
Saturday, January 23, 2010I was contemplating ordering this until I found out it has many shades from other palettes. Bummer.

Saturday, January 23, 2010Does anyone know if we’re getting this in the UK? And if so, when?
Christine
Saturday, January 23, 2010March, I believe!
Anitacska
Sunday, January 24, 20101st March in Boots and Debenhams!
Laura
Saturday, January 23, 2010I decided to pass on it when I realized that the colors weren’t new at all. There are a couple that are in there that I think I might like to own, but if I decide I do, I’ll just buy them instead of getting the palette.
I was quite disappointed.
daphne
Saturday, January 23, 2010I have to admit, the biggest reason I took the plunge and bought this was because it came with the Flipside liner, which I’ve been meaning to get in some form or another but been too cheap to :P I mean, the only UD eyeshadow I have is the Deluxe Shadow Box, so all of these shades were new to me, and I really liked most of them. But personally I don’t get the packaging hullabaloo. I feel like the only real reason to get this palette is if you don’t have any (or at least not the vast majority) of the shades.
I am getting a little annoyed that two of my favorite colors (Wonderland and Curiouser) are so glittery. I don’t mind the look of the glitter but I keep having to use my 182 on my cheeks to clean up. And I wish Curiouser had better payoffs – Christine, you don’t know of any dupes (any brand) that are better/not glittery do you? Also bummed because I noticed Mad Hatter had crappy payoff too, and I was so excited to get that color :( However many of these colors are different for me and I’m very pleased with them. Of the nonglittery shades, my favorites are Queen, Mushroom, Muchness and Drink Me Eat Me. I can definitely see myself all of those quite a bit.
Christine
Saturday, January 23, 2010Nothing wrong with the palette — it’s good if you don’t have two or three palettes by UD already, you know? Definitely worth getting if you only have one or two shades or have always wanted to try UD :) And hey, if you love Alice, not a bad way to collect something from the movie either!
You know what is a really good match, but it sucks because it was LE? MAC Lovely Lily pigment. Or MAC Lotusland eyeshadow. BOO. Those are the only two that come to mind.
daphne
Saturday, January 23, 2010Yeah, I hear you! It’s a nice palette, just maybe not a great new release. Since I’m slow on new releases it worked out well for me :)
The nice thing about Lotusland is that like most of the original Starflash shadows, it’s not too hard to find for sale on LJ/Specktra or in CCOs. In fact, the CCO in my hometown is crazy stocked and I bet my mom could find it for me there, so maybe I’ll ask her. Thanks so much for the rec, it’s such a nice color for me!
Christine
Monday, January 25, 2010Benefit has a light purple shade for Spring, too… blanking on the name, but I just swatched it & it’s similar!
Sheila
Saturday, January 23, 2010I’m definitely getting this, but will have to wait until its released in the UK in march =(
I passed on the first 2 books of shadows, but I really like the special theme this time. Plus I felt the last 2 had more greens (I can’t wear green), and this one has colours that are more easily wearable/pairable. YAY! Thanks for the swatches =D
DonnaN
Saturday, January 23, 2010How disappointing that this is just renamed shadows. I (HEART) the packaging, but not enough to dole out $52.00…..I’ll be skipping this one….
K
Saturday, January 23, 2010SUCH a beautiful palette in terms of packaging. It is so dark and eerily Disney and the pop-up piece is so unique. Like other Urbay Decay palettes, it looks rather chunky though (not space-friendly for travel.) However, I have to ask myself do I really NEED the palette? The answer is no (to most of my make-up wants these days) so I will proudly skip on this one. That leaves one up for grabs by someone who wants it more!
Vanessa
Saturday, January 23, 2010Hi Christine!
I saw the palette already out & on display yesterday at Sephora at Stoneridge Mall. I know you’re a fellow Bay Area beauty so I know you know where that’s located :) Maybe Valleyfair will have it soon? There was only 3 left when I saw them last night but I was surpised they were out a week earlier than the date you mentioned above.
xo, V
Christine
Saturday, January 23, 2010Very interesting! I bought mine online, but man, I would have just gone in store if I had known they’d be out :(
koalaj
Sunday, January 24, 2010i went to valley fair today to pick up a MUFE eyeliner and i asked about this palette. the SA said that they do have them in already and even though it’s not on the shelves yet, you can buy it if you ask! so i picked one up- i’m super excited because this is my first UD palette so i have none of the colors.
bananabelle
Saturday, January 23, 2010Thanks for your review Christine! I love how your reviews always seem so honest, all the other reviews seem to be just giving in to the hype. I ordered mine on Friday the 22nd (I had it in my shopping cart on release day but they ran out when I went to go check out… >_>) so I should be getting it next week.
Which shades are the more glittery ones? Sometimes I end u a glitterbomb at the end of the day regardless of whether or not I used UDPP.
Christine
Saturday, January 23, 2010Chessur, White Rabbit, Wonderland, Curiouser, Midnight Tea Party, and Jabberwocky are all on the glittery side (Midnight Tea Party being REALLY REALLY glittery!)
Hope you enjoy yours :)
Anitacska
Sunday, January 24, 2010I just don’t get why they put Midnight Cowboy into every BOS??? It’s their worst shade, so glittery, yuck!
Margarett
Saturday, January 23, 2010Don’t feel bad about waiting for your palette to arrive. I ordered mine on Jan 15th and I live in Florida and it still has not arrived yet. It has been 8 days and it was supposed to ship priority mail 2-3day delivery.
I had to have this because I did not have the earlier palettes and I collect Alice in Wonderland memorabilia. I checked the colors before ordering and I only had 5 of the 16. Can’t wait to try it out but the delay in it’s arrival is kid of a joke.
I am also still waiting for my Haute Look purchase of Urban Decay stuff from Jan 13th to arrive.
If I see my postman in eyeshadow I am going to be suspicious.
Christine
Saturday, January 23, 2010HauteLook’s delay doesn’t surprise me (I think it’s typically 4-6 weeks), but I can’t believe being in FL you haven’t gotten your UD goodies!! BOO!
montygrl4131
Sunday, January 24, 2010LOL-about the postman!
I live in Florida, too, and I waited 8 days as well. Finally received it yesterday. I’m fairly pleased with it. I do think both UD and OPI could have done a little better coming up with more unique ideas. This is Tim Burton movie after all. IMO.
Jennifer
Saturday, January 23, 2010Hi Christine, Thanks for the post and wonderful pictures of the palette. How would you say Alice(Painkiller)compares to UD’s Deluxe Shadow in Peace? As well as Underland(Flash) to Mayhem (BOS 1) or Ecstasy? These are the only 2 shades I don’t own already. Trying to somehow justify buying it despite that, lol.
Christine
Saturday, January 23, 2010Hi Jennifer,
Peace is much bluer (Painkiller has a little aqua in it), and Ecstasy is a little lighter than Flash. Flash and Painkiller are both available in either the Preen or Show Pony palette, though…
daphne
Monday, January 25, 2010Hm! I’m finding swatching Peace and Alice next to each other that they are virtually identical. I really don’t think you can justify buying the palette for that shade if you have Peace!
Rosanna!
Wednesday, January 27, 2010I swatched the entire Alice collection on my hand yesterday at work and fell in love :( I can’t justify 52 bucks either so I was looking for a dupe of Alice. Painkiller has a golden/greenish sheen to it that is not in Alice, and probably does not show in photos. They say its the same color, but it didn’t appear to be to me (or maybe the tester was a little raunchy, who knows). Alice just came off a lot more blue without green or gold to it.
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Aww :( They should be the same… that’s what UD says, so maybe it was just the tester being off.
Cherokee
Saturday, January 23, 2010Thanks Christine as always for a great review. I was really excited and was ready to order this. However, looking at the colors, I already own ones very similar from other brands. I don’t want to pay $52 for packaging.
amy
Saturday, January 23, 2010I love the pop up packaging, but the colours don’t really say “Alice in Wonderland,” to me. I was hoping they would create a limited edition palette with all new colours for this set.
Rowan
Saturday, January 23, 2010I’m a sucker for cute packaging and UD shadows so I HAD to get it! It just arrived yesterday and I did a look with muchness on the inner lid, oraculum on the middle, queen on the outer lid and crease with a light dusting of wonderland to the brow bone. I hope you get a chance to do some looks with this palette in the future!
Brenda
Saturday, January 23, 2010I did a bit of rough math, and I think if you don’t have a lot of the shades, it’s a really good deal!! You get a bit more than half the size of a regular shadow for about 1/4 of the price if you bought all 16 shades individually. So it stills works out much more economical.
I can’t get UD shipped to Canada and they are $19 here. I have three of the shades, but two of the shades in the Palette aren’t available at Sephora here.
I think I will check this out, as I do have a soft spot for the stories of Lewis Carroll (which was not his real name, he was not on drugs and not a pervert, I got his book for xmas and there’s historical biographies included).
Yukie
Saturday, January 23, 2010I’m a sucker for packaging and for Alice in Wonderland so I HAD to get it and I love it… but it’s also nice because didn’t have any UD shadows before I got the palette, so I got 16 of their “best selling” (is what they advertised) shades, 2 eyeliners and a primer potion for $52.
Tiffany
Saturday, January 23, 2010I MUST HAVE THIS!!
Tiff
Saturday, January 23, 2010I have the other 2 palettes, but I just had to order this to add to my collection :)
Stephanie
Saturday, January 23, 2010Underland calls for me, but I think it’s a little tricky when the rename the colors. I have a lot of them, so it’s not worth my $52.
Jenny
Saturday, January 23, 2010If the eyeshadows were new shades.. I would’ve scooped this up in a heartbeat! But I already own almost all of the colours, so I’m definitely passing this one up. It’s such a shame these are all repromotes of existing eyeshadows and given a new name to fit the theme.
HC
Saturday, January 23, 2010I think this palette is great for those who want to try Urban Decay’s existing shadows but have yet to fork out the $ to do so (like me!). I think UD did a good job putting together their best shades for this box BUT I wish there were a few more bright colors since Alice in Wonderland is a colorful movie (ex. the one with Johnny D. coming up!). Neutrals don’t quite fit the Alice in Wonderland theme, IMO. I received mine this past Friday and was so stoked about it, but I too wish there was a few matte/satin finishes! Where’s my highlight color? I watched this one YT video that suggested using “White Rabbit” as a highlight color but I can foresee my eye being a gigantic disco ball if I use all shades from this palette!
Thanks for your review, Christine! Just had to put in my opinion as well.
Bridgette
Saturday, January 23, 2010Wow yours came in on Friday? Mine came in Thursday (I live in Southern Cali.) and it got shipped on Tuesday. So the shipping was kinda fast. I love the palette but I do wish they had some LE colors. Oh well since I only own 2 shades of UD which are in the palette I thought this would be a good investment since I have been wanting to try out more UD eyeshadows for a while. Its pricey but if you were to buy all of these separately It would be like $256 bucks.
Helena
Saturday, January 23, 2010I want it so much D: sigh. It seems like the colors are so much more interesting with an Alice theme…hahaha.
Jenni
Saturday, January 23, 2010I’ve been waiting for this review for forever! Thanks so much Christine!! I don’t have any Urban Decay shadows, so I think I’m going to pick this up as an introduction to the brand :)
Katie
Saturday, January 23, 2010I was really excited about this, bummer that it’s just renamed shadows. I already have the Ammo palette so I guess I’ll pass. I guess I saved $52, though lol.
Christine
Saturday, January 23, 2010It’s good if you *don’t* have a ton of UD shadows — so perfect for a UD newbie — but not so great for those who have multiple palettes, lol!
Katie
Saturday, January 23, 2010Oh yeah, it looks great if you don’t own any UD! Definitely a good deal.
Kristel
Saturday, January 23, 2010I’ve been tossing this back in forth in my head for a while now! I’ve decided not to get this. Not enough new colours to justify cute packaging at probably $65CDn (I’m estimating)
babicsek
Saturday, January 23, 2010I so would like to have this palette, but UD isn’t aviable here in Hungary:(:(:(
Karen
Saturday, January 23, 2010The packaging looks really cute! I was going to get it but the price is a major turn off.
Out of the 4 palettes you mention that has the colors, which palette has the most of the colors from Alice in Wonderland because I really want to try out some of UD’s eyeshadows.
Christine
Saturday, January 23, 2010I believe it’s the Ammo palette :)
Ceriene
Saturday, January 23, 2010Too little variety in the finishes for my liking. I’m with you on wishing that there were a few matte or semi-matte shades in this palette. Skipping this, despite the gorgeous packaging.
Christine
Saturday, January 23, 2010I’m glad someone else spotted that! Ultimately, it’s not a big deal for me, since I do have matte shades, but it doesn’t make this an ideal travel palette if it’s all you want to take.
kim
Saturday, January 23, 2010when is this releasing in sephora?
Christine
Monday, January 25, 2010Tomorrow, I believe!
Almost black.
Sunday, January 24, 2010I held BoS vol. II in my hands recently and decided to skip it. Just too many colors I’m not fan of and which I don’t use. This palette is totally different – I would really love to have it! I like most of the colors + it’s really a great deal! :)
If it shows up in my country, I’ll definitely buy it. :)
dolce aria
Sunday, January 24, 2010The packaging is adorable! Much cuter than the BoS’s, even if it DOES have the same pullout drawer style(Which I HATE with a passion.)
This’ll be a pass for me(thank goodness) I already own 9-10 of the shades, and I am obsessive compulsive enough to where no cardboard packaging is too nice for me to remove it to line the colors up with teh other colors in my palette. If it was nice, heavy, purse ready, OK maybe. But this ain’t cutting it.
I’m a bit bummed they didn’t attempt any new shades.
Jenny
Sunday, January 24, 2010Soooo torn. On the one hand, I love the wearable, neutral shades (of which there are many in this palette), on the other, I would have liked some matte shades as well.
But I don’t have any UD eyeshadows…but I hate the glittery stuff – I mean what is up with them putting midnight cowboy rides again into EVERY palette?
And while the packaging is pretty, it’s also fairly inconvenient…..PASS. Thanks for the honest review Christine, I would have hated to blow $60CND on something that’s been overly hyped and disappointed me.
Incidentally, I bought my Barbie Loves Stila palette ages ago but only got around to using it last week and I LOVED how it looked – and I only used two colors. That was a good buy so thanks again!!!
Christine
Monday, January 25, 2010Yay! Glad you are enjoying your Barbie palette :)
I agree… hate Midnight Cowboy Rides Again… and it’s in palettes all the time!
Terry
Sunday, January 24, 2010The packaging is gorgeous!
Laura
Sunday, January 24, 2010I’ve got someone sending me this from the US because I was too worried I wouldn’t get one in the UK (it’s going to be very limited here, apparently). It’s such a waste of money because I already own all but two of the shades, but I just love UD palettes so much!
Anitacska
Sunday, January 24, 2010I tried to convince myself that I don’t need this, but even though I have 5 palettes (inlc. BOS 1 and 2), I haven’t got 6 shades that are featured in this one, so instead of buying them separately, it would make more sense to buy this palette, plus you also get the eyeliners and the UDPP. Plus it is very cute. :)
Rena
Sunday, January 24, 2010I really enjoy this palette, I’ve always passed on Urban Decay Shadows before, so for me it’s a good buy because I love Alice in Wonderland since I was little and never really played around with Urban Decay Shadows before.
Trisha
Sunday, January 24, 2010Those are all very nice looking. Normally I can find at least one color I’m lukewarm about, especially in a palette that big, but they really are all awesome.
Emma
Sunday, January 24, 2010I can just say WOW!
Maggie
Sunday, January 24, 2010I really, really wish they’d done original shades for this one. I’m a pretty big UD fan, which in this case is unfortunate, as I own all but a couple of these eyeshadows. The packaging is just so adorable, that it’s ALMOST worth ordering – but I have to be practical. It makes no sense to get a palette full of duplicate shades, no matter how cute.
I do agree that it is a fantastic starter palette for anyone who is new to UD. I envy you guys who can discover this brand AND experience the loveliness of the packaging!
Zinnia
Sunday, January 24, 2010must have ;)
Ashley
Sunday, January 24, 2010I ordered this on Friday :) Packaging is amazing and I am so in love with my BOS2 that I just had to have this one!
Jools
Sunday, January 24, 2010I don’t care that they are not original colours I think the palette is a thing of beauty and having to wait till March here in the UK will be hell :0) xxxJoolsxxx
jellynat
Sunday, January 24, 2010Beautiful colors but I’m so sick of all that Burton related business already.
HC
Sunday, January 24, 2010For all those who live in San Francisco and are without an Alice palette! I spotted them at the Sephora at Stonestown mall! :) I saw at least 5 on the shelves and 5 in the drawers.
kp7*
Sunday, January 24, 2010I went to my Sephora last night not thinking they would even have it and they did!!! I wouldn’t even call, i would just go because i had called them the day before and they had no idea what i was talking about! I love it!!! I couldn’t wait to get home to play with it! lol
Kesha
Sunday, January 24, 2010This might be slightly off topic but, I wonder why they keep licensing Alice in Wonderland to so many different cosmetic products?! I can see toys and clothing but, makeup and nail polish? Hm…
Christine
Monday, January 25, 2010It would appear, by the response from readers, that there is most definitely a market for it!
Allison

Sunday, January 24, 2010Can’t believe this got a B, kinda agree with your reviews… was expecting this for such a long time, had already read that there was nothing new. The packing is so pretty and the pallet is pretty, now I’m not sure if I’ll get, kinda not worth

Sunday, January 24, 2010I love the names and the themes but I have most these colors. If there were new colors I’d be ALL OVER this one!

Monday, January 25, 2010I am super jealous, I wish I could get it. My only option is eBay and those on there go for record prices!

Monday, January 25, 2010I have to thank you so much for putting the number for sephora on here, i almost never get to the stores in time to get limited edition items and i found out too late that the palette was sold out online. You have saved me from missing out on this. I never got the book of shadows for some reason i dont know what was, and i am a HUGE alice fan and i feel like this was the perfect way to get the palette. Thanks so much!
Christine
Monday, January 25, 2010No problem, Heather :)

Monday, January 25, 2010christine, i’m trying to decide whether to get either this palette or the book of shadows 2 and was wondering what you would recommend:
i’m not a big alice and wonderland fan, but i think the packaging is fine either way, so that’s not really a factor for me.
the ud non-matte shadows i already own are baked and twice baked (one of which seems to be in every one of their palettes!), honey and smog.
i really like the shades maui wowie, mushroom and x, so i did consider just buying the singles, but i’m having a hard time finding the mushroom single around here (uk). anyway, i thought maybe a palette would be good value as you pointed out)

Monday, January 25, 2010Hey Aradhana,
I don’t think you could go wrong with either, really, but I’d say Book of Shadows Vol II. mostly because it doesn’t have so many glittery shades. Even as much as I do like the color of Maui Wowie, the glitter fall out drove me nuts.
However, if glitter fall out doesn’t bother you, then I’d say the Alice palette may be a better bet (Painkiller is a really nice shade if you dig aqua blues!).

Monday, January 25, 2010Is the BOS 2 still available for purchase??

Tuesday, January 26, 2010Hey this eyeshadow palette is great and its fun to for the collectors out there well if anyone is interested i am selling one so let me know
Chrissy
Tuesday, January 26, 2010The book of shadows vol. ii was my first UD e/s purchase. I’ve only tried half of the shades but I really love the palette thus far. There are shades that I never thought I would’ve liked. Anyhow, when I saw the Alice in Wonderland palette my heart kinda sank b/c it seemed like a better buy. But now that I’ve seen you’re review and swatches, it seems like BOS 2 is much more wearable. I’m trying to ease off on collecting and only buying things I know I’ll get a good use out of and I have a feeling I won’t w/ this palette.
Thanks for the great review, as always!
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Happy to help, Chrissy :)

Wednesday, January 27, 2010This is so cute, I had to stop myself from ordering multiples. I kept calling Sephora and checking the website, they said it would be up on Tuesday and I finally saw it on there Wednesday AM. I don’t have six of the featured shades so I guess that is how I can make an excuse to buy this. I saw on Ebay that people had paid over $200.00 for this! And plenty more for 100.00 on up. Insane! I got mine on Sephora for $52.00 just because I waited a few more days. I too wish they would of came up with all new shades exclusive to this palette.
I have several UD Face Case’s and I’ve never hit the pan on them.Does any one know if the palette’s last quite a while too?
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 20106 singles is more expensive than the palette, so ;)
It should last awhile… I’ve never really tested that theory, but I think you should be OK!

Wednesday, January 27, 2010I bought this the day it came out on ud’s website. I really like it. I even like the flipside liner and i am not a being fan of teals. Also the glitters rock my world. I love glittery shadows and I dislike when there are collections full of matte colors. I haven’t been splurging on make-up lately but i totally splurged on this without regret!

Thursday, January 28, 2010Good collectors palette even for those who already own the colors. The packaging is beautiful!

Thursday, January 28, 2010I don’t have any UD palette’s and I am glad I waited for this. I got this at my local sephora. I am a huge alice in wonderland fan though. I love the pop-up, and colors are good. There were some basic ones I didn’t have. I thought the price was a bit high for what you are getting, but I might be wrong. I know some of it is because it’s “Disney’s”
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010It’s a great buy if you don’t have any UD shades already :) It’s pretty good value, actually — about the same price as the previous Book of Shadows, actually, so no price hike just ’cause it was Disney!

Thursday, January 28, 2010Does ANYONE like Midnight Cowboy Rides Again? Everyone I’ve ever discussed UD with (like me) thinks that their obnoxiously-glittery shades are a downer. The fallout is insane, and the glitter chunks are just too big.
It’s a shame, because I think the regular pearly sheen of UD shadows is amazing, coupled with their soft texture and rich pigmentation. I’ll probably get this when it hits the UK in March, since I only own two of the shadows in it already, and I want Flipside, too.
Christine
Friday, January 29, 2010I’d love to hear from fans, LOL. Worst eyeshadow I’ve ever used in terms of fall out.

Sunday, January 31, 2010Just found your site using a link from blogger Pretty in Dayton and I love it! This is a wonderful review and has helped me out a lot! I’ve been on the fence about this because I don’t have a lot of UD and it would be a great starter palette since BoS is no longer available. But I also agree with Rosie -I’m not a big fan of Alice in Wonderland -the story kinda bugs & I didn’t want to pay extra for the packaging. It’s good to know that this is a good value & (please edit if not ok) Bing was doing 20% cash-back at Sephora.
On a side note I got my Hautelook order a couple of days ago and I really like the shadows, liquid liner and the crazy large kabuki brush. Thanks again!
Christine
Sunday, January 31, 2010So glad you found us, Katie!! :)
Isn’t the kabuki brush HUGE? I have it, but I have never used it, LOL.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010I’m getting this one for sure. I never could get my hands on BOS. This one is beautiful. I actually prefer the UD24/7 to MUFE Aqua eyes. For me the UD pencils glide on so much easier. UD 24/7 are desert island worthy.

Sunday, March 7, 2010For all of you who bought this and are disappointed with it you could always put it on eBay and sell it. Because some of us missed the opportunity to buy it while it was in stock. It sold out so fast! That way you would get at least some of your money back on it. ya know
Lindsey
Wednesday, March 10, 2010Does anyone know where you can purchase one of these palettes? I called Sephora and their whole company is sold out and the Urban Decay website is completely sold out!
Christine
Wednesday, March 10, 2010All sold out :(

Wednesday, March 10, 2010If you know anybody in the UK (I believe it’s at Debenhans)or Singapore (Sephora)you may be in luck, they just had their release on March 1.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010I Bought this Alice in WOnderland palette about three weeks ago. I don’t have any of their eyeshadows so it was a nice kit for me because if I like any of the colors, they are part of the regular collection. That being said – you are right about the glitter fall out with some of the shades – what a mess – but I still like many of the colors. I have tried everything to minimize the glitter on my cheeks but with some of the shades it’s impossible. Overall , still a nice palette and I think the box is really cool. My lid didn’t stay open either but if you bend the lid back until you hear a bit of a ‘crunch/rip’sound then it loosens it up a bit and it stays open when you want it to.

Monday, March 29, 2010I love this pallette. Too much fun!

Tuesday, March 30, 2010Like an idiot, I waited too long. Now it’s sold out everywhere! Any idea what the real names are of the shadows? I hate to think I have to buy them individually… :(
Christine
Tuesday, March 30, 2010The real names are in parentheses after the Alice name :)

Sunday, June 6, 2010Hey! I have this palette and I love it! Would anyone be interested if I made a YouTube channel showing basic, but pretty make-up tutorials using these and only these colors? I find myself looking for something fresh with this palette, and I’ve only found a couple. Definitely not enough! Let me know

Friday, June 11, 2010a great look is ‘drink me, eat me’ all over lid (sin),
then ‘drink me, eat me’ inner corner (sin),
then ‘chessur’ in middle(chopper),
then ‘oraculum’ outer corner (baked)
and a tiny bit of ‘jabberwocky’ outer corner over that (oil slick).

Sunday, June 20, 2010This is sold out on Sephora, it’s pricey but it comes with everything I’ve been wanting to ‘try’ out. Urban decay primer potion, eyeshadows and the liners. I really hope this come back in stock. Do you think there’s a chance?
Christine
Sunday, June 20, 2010They brought it back in stock, but you have to purchase several other items with it – but you can get it for around $200. You can get other UD palettes like the Ammo palette for $40 and they have a lot of shades in that instead.

Friday, July 9, 2010I really want this, but I’m not sure if it is still in stores, I really want to try it though, but it looks like you get of variety…
