I’m liking the whole line a lot better than just the initial lipstick release (now it isn’t looking so much “masculine” as 70’s-modern-fusion). I still the think promo image is a little creepy… maybe too ‘shopped. But overall it does look promising and I’m pleasantly surprised!

AmyD Avatar

yeesh. expensive much? >.<

i like the packaging of the products – i recall reading comments on previous posts by commenters who thought the packaging was maybe too masculine, but i like the clean lines and simplicity of it.

the products are craaazy expensive, though! i'll be interested to see reviews and commentary on how these products perform.

Z Avatar

Without seeing an ingredients list for the face products (to rule out silicones – ha! – everything has silicones now…*sigh*) I probably wouldn’t be getting much. But that black orchid lipstick must be mine!

Amy Em Avatar

I’m interested in seeing reviews for this line. Is there a way to “encourage” companies to send Christine samples? I’d be more willing to splurge with her positive review.

Hilary♥ Avatar

There is NO WAY I’m paying $79 for an eye quad and $48 for a lipstick… these prices are ridicoulously insanely high!! The packaging looks pretty and the color range is good too, but dang it I will NEVER EVER buy this stuff – I REFUSE to pay so much money on beauty stuff.

Mimi Avatar

I’m with you on this. Just to be honest, I can afford to pay whatever price is asked but this is just ludicrous and I refuse to go along with it. It’s plain greed, as far as I’m concerned. I feel he’s making fools of women who would go along with it. To add to it, I don’t know if you’ve seen some of his past fragrance ads but they are pornographic and degrading to women. In one, a woman is shown nude with her legs split open wide and a bottle of his fragrance covering her private area. Not cool. Just plain disrespectful, degrading and insulting to women. I know he likes shock value but enough is enough. He won’t be getting any money from this cosmetic junkie on principle.

Hilary♥ Avatar

Oh wow I didn’t know he’s disrespectful to women, that makes me so mad!! I do agree with you, it’s just ludicrous amd even if quality is amazing, I still refuse to pay so much for his stuff. I prefer to stick to MAC – and honestly, compared to these ones MAC prices look so super cheap lol. MAC RULES!

Jane Avatar

I don’t think it’s the nudity that bothers rather than selling inferior product on womens’ bodies. There’s an appropriate and tasteful way to use nudity – Tom Ford does not know what that is. It’s just uncreative.

beth maiorana Avatar

One point, though: I personally was so appalled at the price that I did some math with the old calculator, and what I found was that, at least as far as the shadows are concerned, we are getting approximately twice what we do when we purchase Chanel or MAC. His price per gram is the same but when we buy this we are getting two times the amount. That made me feel better, sort of.

MatryoshkaDoll Avatar

The packaging reminds me of Kevin Aucoin’s.

Can’t say I’m too excited for this unless I hear any spectacular reviews. The luxury makeup market is a little too saturated at this point, and there are already a lot of mid-point brands (such as Illamasqua) providing excellent products for better prices.

cytaormina Avatar

I have several of their lipsticks and while they are super emollient and feel wonderful on the lips I found the wear time very very poor. I tried applying with a lip brush, straight out of the tube and with my finger and wear time was the same. The eye palettes look GAWGEOUS but the colors could probably be duped with MAC but the texture & application of these is probably quite superior to MAC. The fragrances are to die for. I had purchased the Neroli parfum in the industrial size and was heartbroken at the wear time. Max wear time was maybe 4 hours, no joke. Rep at Neimans for TF said that it is a very common complaint about the fragrance and the reason was because TF uses “natural ingredients.” WTH!!! That answer made no sense to me but SA suggested layering with TF Neroli body oil to make scent last. Great upselling there! I returned the fragrance.

Christine Avatar

Hey!

Just FYI, based on my experience with the Neroli scent is that it doesn’t wear very well (it was one of my complaints), but other Private Blend scents (Oud Wood, Noir de Noir, Amber Absolute) wear much, much longer. I get 12-18 hours of great wear, but I can still smell them the next day.

Tyler Rhoades Avatar

Citric raw materials are far less costly than say Jasmine, aged Orris (iris root), Rose and many other ingredients. They say it’s natural, which is just marketing, as technically ‘synthetics’ are natural. And ‘synthetic’ materials don’t necessarily last any longer than naturals.

Neroli (bitter orange/bigarade) is a citrus, and citrus materials in general weigh less than woods, resins, flowers and other raw materials. The fact that they weigh less causes them to evaporate more rapidly on skin. It’s their ‘nature’. You should try spraying the fragrance on your clothing for longer wear, but first spot test to ensure the fragrance won’t stain your clothing.

Karana Avatar

I don’t know if you respond to facebook, but have I have question about the packaging. I know before the lipstick packaging use to be white. Are they going to change to this color now or keep it with the white? I love the sleek white color!

georgianne Avatar

looks like a really beautiful line of products…but way too expensive. i could not buy it in good conscience. if you can spend this kind of money without blinking, please help restock your local food pantry as well.

PoetrysTruth Avatar

I can’t see anything earth shattering about TF products that would have me pay this ransom of a price. Unless some tiny elves are coming with the products to apply them daily…I will take a pass on all of TF products. They aren’t magic and I’m not going to make all my $$$ disappear to have them on my make up vanity.

UrbanBeautiful Avatar

woooow beautiful!!! i dont fall for much, since i allready collected quite an amout of makeup, and most things dont catch my eye anymore …. but i will definately have to spend some money on that makeup line. the textures and colours look very nice and luxurious, and all the things look very sleek… something i wouldnt be ashamed of taking with me and using in public. on the other hand i wouldnt expect any less from tom ford! awesome!

Ashley Avatar

The packaging is beautiful but the prices are insane! The brush prices are comparable to the most expensive Hakuhodo brushes so I wonder how they compare?

I know Tom Ford likes to be provocative and I don’t mean to be overly sensitive- but I think naming an eye colour ‘Bruise’ is offensive. I know it’s meant to be edgy, but come on! There’s nothing beautiful or sexy about a woman being punched.

Kayti Avatar

I’m very interested in the foundations as that’s the only thing I will splurge on when it comes to makeup and its good to see he tried to cover all shade ranges.

Mariella Avatar

Wow, let me just mortgage my house to pay for all the items in this collection (may have to throw in the cottage as well!). Some of the brushes look amazing, as do a lot of other very tempting items – the blushes, what I’m guessing is a contouring kit and some of those lippies – YUM.

Jill Avatar

The price is rather too much for me, and I’m not digging the packaging. It’s too 70’s wood paneling for me, and bland. But, that’s just me, and I can definitely see where this could appeal to a lot of people. I hope the quality justifies the price.

Miss Avatar

I wish there was a “meh” button. It’s hard to pick between love it and leave it, especially when you like how the products look but hate the price.

Heather Avatar

Looks like a great assortment of basics, but the colours are just that, basic. A few of the nail lacquers are catching my eye though! The packaging is lovely!

cherryglass Avatar

I find it puzzling that very high end brands insist on including those tiny embarrassing sponge-tip applicators. I can’t picture anyone EVER using those things after dropping 78$ on a palette. Surely, we can afford an eye brush or two.

Selenite Avatar

Now I don’t feel guilty about my MUFE and FACE Atelier. I’ll bet the Tom Ford collection has good products but I’ll pass. It actually seems more expensive than Chanel and NARS.

Cathy Avatar

Wow. Christine, fantastic pics! You’ve outdone yourself, which is not easy to do lol! The products do look beautiful but I have to wonder, are they special enough to warrant the prices? I mean, $30.00 for a nail polish! I do love Tom Ford but I don’t think I’ll be splurging on any of these products, unless the reviews are stellar. Thanks for the info!

Mocha Avatar

I can skip this, but what’s really freaking me out is not the price, but his hand. All of his fingers look like they are the same length! (o_0)

Claire Avatar

WOW!!!!!! Everything looks great! And with such a hefty price tag it seems promising. Christine, could you do a review when you can? I would love to see if these live up to their price. The brushes are VERY expensive. I want to see what they are like and if they are worth it or if I should stick to MAC, Sigma, and drugstore

della Avatar

Ok, so I think Tom Ford has done some great things in the past, and when he wants to he can be the Master of Sultry. However, I think I’m likely to just give this whole collection a miss. I don’t see anything on the face of it that I just have to have. I’m not a lipstick girl; I’m more of a,”sheer-gloss-so-I-can-play-with-eyeshadow-lady”. As such, I just am not seeing products in those photos that scream, ” OWN ME! OWN ME NOW!” I wish I could say it was just the price tag, because I do think some of those prices are prohibitive for many people, but it’s not. In a market where Creme de la mer seems to stick around no matter what price, it’s not as though his niche is worried about how to pay for dinner after buying a few products. Truth of the matter for me is that it’s the products leave me flat. Unless I see some reviews that just cry about the innovation of product and how much better and different the items are to everything else on the market, then I don’t see me getting this stuff. It’s less creative and more boring, which isn’t something I’d have expected to say about Tom Ford. 70’s redux? Bleh, so been there how many times over? If I’m going to spend the money, and I might be persuaded to, then it’ll be because I’m so excited about product. Maybe he’ll win me over come Spring.

Naz Avatar

It’s very extravagant and all very luxury branded. I can’t see this being in the average woman’s purse. I mean, I think it’s great that people still want some sophistication, but it’s beyond HIGH END. And after reading an interview with him in Vogue, it’s obviously not geared towards the average woman. I’m not even sure it’s geared towards the modern woman; he made a comment that no woman should do her makeup in public unless she’s using a beautiful compact. Okay, I don’t LOVE when a woman does her entire face on the subway (because it kills the mystery for me), but he’s talking to a large percentage out there who have no choice. I buy cosmetics to wear them; not to display them on my vanity (which is another thing he thinks all women should have). He’s of another era, which translates great on film. But that’s fiction.

GinaTheresa Avatar

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. There’s something pretentious and silly about Tom Ford doing a make-up collection. Plus that picture of him holding the girl’s neck creeps me out. Objectification anyone? Yuck.

K Avatar

I’m honestly wondering where they plan to fit into the market with these prices and what look like easily dupeable shades. Unless their product quality if somehow a billion times better than anyone else’s, I don’t see them going very far as more than the novelty of owning something by Tom Ford, honestly.

amanda Avatar

If Mac pulled prices like this I would be done with cosmetics forever. Am I going mad but a brush for 110 dollars? Darn that’s a lot. The things look lack luster I expected me Tom.

Kayti Avatar

You are correct which is why I’ve decided to pass on this…I was also told the quality is basically a dupe for Giorgo Armani. I don’t care what the reviews are or who the reviews come from, I don’t think the prices are justified and this is a prime example of you paying for marketing and the name on the product.

BooBooNinja Avatar

Completely out of my price range.
I’m disappointed by how pokey and poor quality the applicator brushes (that accompany the palettes) appear. You’d think TF would go the extra mile to make those applicators at least useable!

MAChostage Avatar

I would absolutely LOVE to see this line in person, it looks fabulout! But alas, I don’t have a Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf anywhere near me. 🙁

Ruth Avatar

That’s a pretty extreme price tag-fifty bucks for ONE lipstick? I have a hard time imagining the formula is more miraculous than guerlain or chanel, or longer lasting than the L’oreal ones or even the 7 dollar covergirl ones. This seems to be purely paying for “brand” I see nothing fresh or new here

Alia Avatar

Tom Ford Lip Lacquer Vinyl

I had to play with this a bit, alone on my lips it was ok, under light or sunlight it was very shimmery sparkly which was nice but it did not feel like the name “Lip Lacquer Vinyl” at all, I can’t explain it but it did not even feel like a gloss or even a lip balm. So Then I added some clear gloss and WOW it was just so pretty on my lips, I bet this would be perfect over lipsticks and layered with clear or color gloss but I did have to play around with it, alone its not bad but def not what I was expecting for $30

Angela Avatar

I really looked at the eyeshadow and guys, it’s not as expensive as it sounds. Here’s why…

If you divide it out per gram of product TF is about $7.5 per gram. This is much cheaper than the other high end brands. Dior = $9.3 Chanel =$11.4 and I was SHOCKED by this one Kevyn Aucoin = $48 PER GRAM there is only 1.13 grams of shadow in a 5 pan palette. I’m trying to verify this cuz it makes my soul hurt.

Oh… the TF quads are also cheaper than mid range brands MAC ($10/gram) and MUFE($8.4)

I hope this helps someone !

This is cheaper than MAC($10), MUFE($7.80)

ladies …women are multifaceted creatures capable of reinventing herself clearly Tom worships you. look at this collection its gorgeous and it shows a side of cosmetics you don’t see aren’t you a little sick of the frilly frilly? Don’t take this the wrong way but the price point reflects the market and lifestyle that tom is targeting so if you aren’t going to pay what they are asking well you’ve made that decision. i love the composition of color and i like that its sexy and sharp. i really don’t think his price point is that bad especially where we can all agree we want it and tom hasn’t disappointed us yet we know it will over exceed our expectations
