The Summer Season: Bobbi Brown Orange Lipstick

Bobbi Brown Orange Lip Color ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a vibrant shade of deep orange. This is orange without being neon, flashy, or so unnatural that it looks weird–this is an orange you can wear that looks and feels like an orange, but it’s wearable. It’s a rich, opaque orange with a creamy finish and lightweight feel. It has a subtle glossy sheen and no scent or taste that I could distinguish. Bobbi Brown describes it as a “pumpkin orange,” but I’d say it’s a bit redder than a pumpkin. Nonetheless, count me amongst the surprised, because I never expected such a bold shade to come from Bobbi Brown!

Is this the right orange lipstick for you? Would you wear it?

The Summer Season is a series of posts featuring bright, vibrant shades of coral, orange, and pink lipsticks and lipglosses — all perfect for a summer of fun — that runs through July 2010.

Im of a darker complexion mac nc50, it looks great on me, but vastly different from Christine's swatch, it is a great orange for darker skin, mac morange and so chaud are very stark on my complexion, but doable if you love a bold lip, Bobbi Brown's orange is very warm and easy on my skin. Christine my dear, I love love love your site, i think that you should have a reader submitted photo gallery, your swatches are helpful to those who are of a similar shade, but as i see with the BB orange, they give me no clue as to how a shade will work with my skin color.

Does this pull warm? I'm cool toned and very pale (MAC doesn't even have a foundation light enough for me) and want to jump into this trend, but don't want to buy one that isn't good with my skin tone!

The most beautiful, true orange. Looks great with Poppy lip pencil by Prestige (local drugstore)......enjoy!!

hey christine! i was looking around for some orange lipstick swatches and WOW this is perfect! i love it, but..i don't think i can afford it :( do you know of any good drugstore/cheaper orange lipsticks?

Wow, this really brings out your eyes!

Terrific review! I read your review and promptly went out and got a tube of my own - it really is fabulous, and very wearable! My lips thank you, but my wallet does not ;)

LOL! Hey, at least it was a Cle de Peau or Guerlain lipstick... then your wallet would HATE me! :P So glad you're loving it, Kate!

This is a lovely colour on you. I wonder how it'd look on more neutral to cool complexion like mine (NW25)

Just bought and ADORE MAC's So Chaud...similar color. I never would have considered orange but something made me try. I adore true gorgeous reds so its not soooo far off, :P

Beautiful. And I am pretty fair, but I pull of this kinda red just fine!

I would totally wear this lip color!!! It looks great! <3 <3 <3

does anything look bad on you?!?lol! I could never in a million years pull this off-very pretty though!!

That color sets your whole face aglow. It even makes your eyes pop!

The orange shades look really good on you. But I'm a brown girl and would be scared I'd look like a clown!

Christine, I am brown too (with yellow undertones). Do you think orange lipstick would be harder or easier to carry off on brown skin??

No! I love vibrant shades on darker skin tones :)

Use the MAC Cork of Mahogany lip pencil with it and this should work fine. The MAC So Chaud lipstick is just a matte version of this and it looks great with the Mahogany pencil.

Sorry I meant MAC Cork OR Mahogany lip pencils!

This one reads as having a strong red undertone. I want the try the Giuliana lipstick!

It's pretty but I probably couldn't pull it off. My girl friend that I go shopping with tells me I don't look good in "pumpkin orange". She's happy to have found a color that doesn't look good on me because she claims I can pull most colors off with ease.

I love the look of orange lipstick, but it's hard to find a shade that goes with my complexion. This color is so pretty though.

I like that color! It looks really nice on you Christine! I like how you show your whole face now too when doing lipstick swatches!

That shade looks stunning against your coloring!

I like that. I may have to scoop that up and Bobby Brown along with Almond blush that I have been eyeing.

This is a beautiful lipstick, but I wonder if it would look good on someone as fair as me (I'm a NC15/20).

I have seen fairer skin tones pull it off! I'm NC25 :)

Me too, but the SA at NARS wanted me to try this colour! Of course I did not dare it, but after she did my mkae-up I was convinced I will try it the next time, she was fab. Think if you have a pure, neat skin you can rock it and it looks very diva-esq.

This is G R E A T on you (but honestly, this is wearable only for a handful of people!)

when you swatch on your lips, do you use a lip brush or just use the lipstick straight from the tube?

From the tube! I am too lazy to use a brush - plus, I often swatch 10-15 at a time, so I'd kill that poor lip brush!

Wondering how it would look on darker complexions like mine. I'm too cheap to buy it and see.

I think it would be lovely...
