my answer is so simple. it’s food. with my friends, it’s always been food. more great food, the more special they feel. and when everyone’s full and calmed down, i drag my girlfriends to the room and do a makeover.
I have to agree that food can definitely make the occasion – especially when it’s GREAT food, as you say
depends on who i’m celebrating with — when it’s my family, it’s always a huge event at my parents house at the beach. when it’s with my friends, it’s usually a night at our favorite bar, then back to my house for more frivolity

LOL with naps
On birthdays or holidays everyone covets the time to be able to take a nap…un-interupted. If its a birthday its the other parents job to keep the little person busy so the birthday person can enjoy their time alone…napping 
LOL! I am jonesin’ for a nap myself, though it’s not a special occasion…
