Summer Makeup: Sunny Grass – Yellow, Chartreuse, and Green

Here’s a fun look for all the green lovers out there!

Oh, you say Lucky Green is not permament? Well, let me fill you in on a little something MAC has slipped under the radar this season… On January 15th, MAC Freestanding stores will have Lucky Green… permanently. Oh, yeah! (I actually have a fairly decent amount of pan showing on my Lucky Green, love it so!)

Along with Lucky Green, PRO shades such as Atlantic Blue and a few additional shades will all be added the permanent eyeshadow range at freestanding stores. I don’t have much more information, but you can expect me to be at MAC first thing on the 15th to purchase one of each! :) From what readers and artists have told me, all MAC counters will get these shades in, but counters will only have them available until their stock runs out.  It’s pretty much the equivalent of C-Shock in terms of shades — they’re bright, colorful pops of color.  I won’t be able to tell you anything about quality ’til Friday, sorry folks!

Here are the shades:

  • Winkle Mid-tone cornflower blue
  • Sunny Spot Light acid green yellow
  • Lucky Green Frosted mid-tone lime
  • Vibrant Grape Bright magenta violet
  • Free To Be Bright true coral
  • Atlantic Blue Bright violet blue
  • Red Brick Orange red
  • Goldenrod Bright marigold yellow

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the lid with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply Golden Olive pigment all over the lid portion. Using the 239, apply Bright Sunshine eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Lucky Green eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Bio Green eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Humid eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. Next, define the crease by applying Bottle Green eyeshadow with the 226. Lightly tap and brush Bright Sunshine eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Nylon eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying #20L eyeliner on the lower waterline, Honey eyeliner on the lower lash line, and Sour Lemon eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. Finish by applying Blacktrack fluidline on upper lash line and then sweeping lashes with Exceptionnel mascara.

For cheeks, apply Optimistic Orange cremeblend blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Caramel Kiss lipstick first, and then layer Champagne Pearl lipgloss for a complementing lip.

This is gorgeous. I haven’t worn green in a while, this is a good day to start again! 😛

  2. Saira

Love this look! It’s so nice and bright – perfect for dreary winter days! That’s so cool that some of the PRO shades will be available in Mac stores! Do you know if this is just the case in the US or will they also be available in the UK? Also, will they be available online as well or just in Mac stores?

    • Thanks, Saira! I know they’re being added to the permanent line, so hopefully they’ll be available in the UK, too!

      • Saira

I hope so! Just saw that you added shades that are being released, thanks for doing that :o) . Are there any shades in particular that you think are stand-out shades that are worth checking out? I have Vibrant Grape and love it (got it from Style Warriors collection) and am tempted by Free to Be, Atlantic Blue, Lucky Green and Winkle.

        • Lucky Green for sure. I like Atlantic Blue as well. I haven’t really had enough experience with the rest (and haven’t seen some, ever) to tell you anything else, but I’ll review ’em on Friday.

          • Saira

Just to let you know and any UK readers that the Mac Pop collection comes out in the UK on the 4th of February! I emailed an artist on the Mac site and she said it’ll be out next month. Can’t wait to check out Lucky Green and Atlantic Blue! I’m tempted by Free to Be too but I’m not too sure if it is too similar to Dear Cupcake. Will need to check it out next month.

Not my colours, but beautifully done nevertheless. :) I’d probably do it without the yellow for a bit more subtle look. I have just ordered Olive Green pigment and will try to create a similar look when i get it. Thank you! Oh and btw, loving the lips and cheeks. :)

  4. Really a summer look! I love greens! This looks great on you! :)

  5. This makeup is really beautiful Christine :) As I said before I’m not using green shades in my makeup routine but I like to see your posts with this color :). Green really looks good on you :)

  6. Sarah M

So pretty! Also, I’m loving the cremeblend blushes. I hope MAC launches more colours. I’d love to see some plums, shimmers, nudes, etc.

  7. Roxanne

Ahhh! It’s beautiful! You sure love Honey, don’t you? 😉

  8. I love this look on you. :)

  9. Elly

LOVE this look! I do green eyes a lot, but the gold liner adds something extra special. Definitely going to try this one out!

  10. Daphnee

    Very pretty!

  11. Jinny

What others will be at the counters?… do you know?

  12. So fresh! And the lips are perfect with the eyes. It is in green that you are at you’re MOST beautiful, you know. It’s quite obvious that this is what you prefer to wear. With that make-up, if I was a guy, I’d marry you on the go. 😉

(PS-I’d like to see some make up pics of yours with free hair, without diadem – even if your hair goes on your face – that’d be cool with a wild oriented make-up)

    • Thanks a lot! :)

My hair is actually pretty boring… it kind of lays like that naturally, lol. The headband is mostly for more color/accessorizing than functional!

  13. ABsoluuuuutely gorgeous!!!! I love lime green *grin*

  14. amy

The Chartreuse and greens look gorgeous with your complexion. Lucky Green is very pretty, looks like I would need to pick it up when it becomes available.

  15. AA

    I’m loving the green eyes!

  16. pia

Ohhhh so pretty!!! I love it! Optimistic Orange is not as bright as the pan, isn’t it, Christine?

  17. Kasey

I love how the gloss and lipstick looks on you. It is blended so well, to be honest sometimes it looks a little goopy :)

I wish I could wear bright colours in the way you apply them, it just doesn’t look right on me.

  18. Alexis

wow those colors woke me up like a second cup of coffee. Very bold! I like the Optimistic Orange CCB on you – pretty lip color too!

  19. Hi Christine – I love this look, greens are so fabulous!

  20. Cozy

Wow, that’s a really cute look! Makes your eyes look huge! :) Thanks for sharing these looks with us, it’s always cool to see what you come up with!

  21. HC

    Ok, primer talk!

I think I’m allergic to UDPP b/c my eyes water shortly after applying it. Plus the next day, my eyelids are cracked and dry! Sigh. It’s definitely not my MAC makeup b/c I used to use it w/out primer and it was fine. I’m trying Bare Escentual’s prime time right now and it’s doing well. I have painterly paint pot and I think I like that the best but I keep hearing that it’ll crease after time. What are your thoughts on MAC paint pots as bases? Everytime you put up an eye look, I see that you use paint pots instead of UDPP or Too Faced Shadow Ins, etc.

    • Hmm, a lot of people use Paint Pots as bases and don’t have them crease. UDPP creases a bit on me, so I gravitate towards Paint Pots. I don’t like the delivery system of TFSI (sometimes it separates)!

      • HC

My friend had a tube of TFSI and when she squeezed it out, it definitely separated like oil and water! I think my Bare Escentuals prime time creased on me on NYE but I think I’m in denial because its a primer that I’m not allergic to!

    • aradhana

sometimes mac paint pots / paints will crease if too much product is used, so it might take a bit of experimenting to figure out the right amount for your skin.

i like TFSI the most as a base, and since its so sheer i use it even if i’m using a paint pot, shadestick or whatever.

  22. evangelia

please tell me sour lemon will be available too?

  23. Steph

This look is so bright & so nice!

  24. Tessa

Would you say that if you have Rich Coral CCB you don’t need the Optimistic Orange? How close are they?

  25. shontay

Christine, I was prowling Mac a second ago, as always and noticed new shadows and I was like WHAAAAAA?! I rushed here right away for swatches! LOL I don’t care, I’m ordering them now, anyway.

  26. Summer

    aww i like this :)

  27. Bridget S.

My local Nordstrom had these when I was there last night! I love the bold looks, so my MUA made me aware of them.

  28. DonnaN

Christine….what GREAT news!!! I’m all about the GREENS this spring….and how perfect….I may need to pick it up with the Spring Colour Forcast collection next month.

I love this eye look, btw……I’d have to test out the yellow and chartreuse colors against my skin tone…..OH, to have darker skin….must tan this year!!

  29. Aww, that’s just lovely. The blending is seamless. Those greens make me long for spring, that’s for sure.

  30. Tami

Awesome! I love greens and this look def reminds me of summer:)

  31. Melissa

I’m on MAC’s website right now…if you go to the Pro Palette Eyeshadow refill section, you can find the 8 colors Christine mentioned including: Atlantic Blue, Red Brick, Lucky Green, Vibrant Grape, Winkle, Goldenrod, Sunny Spot, and Free To Be. Hope this is helpful!

  32. Megan

    Love it, very pretty Christine!

  33. Megan

this look is GORGEOUS! It compliments your skin tone oh so well. :)

  34. aradhana

those colours are extremely flattering on you!
    really nice look!
the new creme blushes seem much sheerer than i thought they swatched?

    • Thanks a lot, Aradhana!

You can intensify them as much as you want – you can definitely get them to be as WHOA as in the swatches, but it’s up to you. I prefer them with a much lighter hand myself!

  35. Torie

Very pretty. I just can’t get myself to do brights very often.
On a funnier note I went and bought the Caramel Kiss l/s and of course I think it looks better on you. Of course maybe it’s the guilt I feel from falling off of the ‘no buy’ wagon. Hmmm whaddya think?

  36. Katherine

Your pic made me go out and buy “Optimistic Orange” today :)Beautiful as always, Christine!!

  37. Luisafer

such bright colors!!! reminds me of Alice in Wonder Land ;O)

  38. AnGeLwInGz

So pretty! Green eyes with coral lips/cheeks are my #1 fave!

  39. Aramis

idk why you dont like yellow on you. it looks really nice! it stands out but it definately looks nice lol

    • This yellow is OK, because it is chartreuse-y. Like Chrome Yellow — no way! And mustard-y yellows, no thank you!

I like shades like Bright Sunshine (though borderline TOO yellow) and Goin’ Bananas… and golden yellows!

      • Bettina

*Like* I swear you and I must think similar thoughts Christine. I just went out in green eyeshadow (rated r, one off and gorgeous gold to be exact)and then saw this post and said right on!

  40. OMG… I love this look so much, Christine! I love greens and I love the way you used Sunshine and Sour Lemon!! I might have to get myself to a freestanding store and make my own greens quad…

  41. Woo eyeshadows! Love it! Blue Calm is my FAVORITE blue of all time. It’s a MAC color they don’t make anymore (was it PRO? I don’t recall).

  42. I bought Red Brick once and returned it. To my surprise it was a very… Brick red. LOL! Yuk.

  43. Elle

Gorgeous!! I’m gonna have to try this out myself soon. I’ve been on a green kick lately. :)

  44. Luisa

I love that youre wearing eyeliner on your upper lash line, looks so good on you :)

  45. Christina

i absolutely LOVE this look… on you, and to try! Amazing to see you line your upper lid… you look beautiful.

    Thanks for the look!

    • Sorry, it causes my eyes to swell up so I really can’t do it often – if I do it in a look, I take it off immediately so my eyes are only red and not swollen. :/ I’m sorry I don’t look good without it, I guess… it’s just too painful to endure most of the time.

  46. bebe

thankkk you for the eyeliner XD
