NYX Chic Red Round Lipstick
NYX Chic Red Round Lipstick
NYX Chic Red Round Lipstick ($4.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a vibrant pink-red with strong blue undertones. It’s more vibrant compared to Guerlain Liu and just a touch more compared to MAC Prolong. It’s a very cool-toned lipstick, which means it really makes teeth look white, and it will naturally flatter cooler complexions better. I find that the intensity of reds (along with plums, berries, etc.) make them appropriate on warmer complexions, too, because of how rich and deep in color they are. It’s opaque in color and a little goes a long way!
The finish is semi-matte, but it doesn’t feel dry when applied or even a couple of hours after wearing it, which is unexpected and much appreciated. This color does stain, but it also wears for six hours comfortably and feels a touch drying as it contiunues to wear to eight hours. I didn’t experience any feathering or bleeding, though my lips are not prone to either generally. Mine didn’t have any noticeable scent, but I have had this particular shade in the to-review-bin for some time, so it may have lost it over time.
Where to Buy: NYX, $4.00
The Glossover
It's not only a great shade of red with a quality formula, but it's extremely affordable at $4.00. I was really surprised at how comfortable this was over time, especially for something with such a semi-matte finish!

Product & Review FAQ
Where can I purchase it? How much is it?
NYX, $4.00.
Is it limited edition?
No.
Any dupes?
It's more vibrant compared to Guerlain Liu and just a touch more compared to MAC Prolong.
I have this! :D
I just purchased this shade along with a couple others online. I love my other NYX round lipsticks b/c I think they are an excellent quality for the price. I bought mine from cherryculture.com for $1.99 each.
This shade looks great on you! I'm always on the look out for something that can replace my Viva Glam Cyndi when I run out of it--I love it so much! This shade looks more intensely pigmented and opaque from the pictures. Do you know of anything similar to Cyndi? :)
Have you ever tried the black label lipstick by NYX? It is a lot more moisturizing! I think it's 3 dollars more than the round lipsticks, but still affordable.
I might try it out, but as of last night I was going through my NYX lipsticks and found that some had a chemical scent. They had a very nasty waxy taste that wouldn't leave my mouth - it was a bit unpleasant. :-(
This is one of the reasons which I would not buy NYX esp. where it is made....but then again, Nars lipstick can turn rancid too even when stored in a normal climate. Even budget brands like Maybelline or Cover Girl would no have these imperfections or potholes on a brand new lipstick.
I haven't noticed any smell from mine. Everything in the world has some sort of natural smell. It cannot be helped. I have three NYX red's. Chaos, Snow White, and Hebe. Hebe is this interesting almost metallic red.
I love these! I only have two, though. I definitely am going to get this one! Also, the smell of these isn't that bad. But I do wish they smelled more like some of their other lip products (they smell so yummy! Like candy :D).
I have Ulysses and Hebe. Ulysses is probably one of my favorite lip colors of all time! And Hebe is very unique. The nyx lip products that have scents(that I know of) are their matte lipsticks(I have a pink one that's a wee bit darker than Candy Yum Yum), their round lip glosses, and their mega shine lip glosses. Like I said, they smell like candy! Maybe...starburst? :D
This is so pretty, I have some and they are great. I Electra is also a very pretty red from them. They do have a strong vanilla scent though. At least mine do. They are not the ones in the all black tube though.
When I compare my older NYX lipsticks, the smell seems to be varying from odorless to a heavy soapy smell. The newer ones (like Chic Red) are odorless to a little sweet vanilla smell. It seems they have reformulated the smell over time. I'm liking the newer ones way better!
I ordered mine just now lol! The other NYX lipstick I own is Snow White, the color is beautiful and the texture isn't drying at all. You are absolutely right about the high quality for the price.
NYX lipsticks have the strongest smell that I CANNOT stand. I really liked the colors that I ordered online once but the smell made me sick to my stomach I had to throw them out.
Ohh, I love it. You look so great in reds, I must add. I want to try these lipsticks, but I'll have to find something more to add to my order so the shipping isn't so outrageous.
I have to say that this is one of the most beautiful lipsticks you've worn! And it's very refreshing to see this kind of color because here in Brazil we're getting ready for summertime (though it doesn't seem with this crazy weather), so it matches with the season. lol I love NYX, they're cheap and have great quality. It's just a shame that here there are just a few stores and the products are very expensive, so whenever I wanna have something from them, I buy abroad and have to pay in US dollar.
Things here are always twice the price there... or more. A MAC lipstick here costs R$ 71,00 (about US$ 42, considering that today each US dollar costs 1,86 Brazilian currency). God saves Brigette's Boutique and Cherry Culture! lol
The NYX ARE pretty, long lasting and the price can't be beat but they DO have a smell....and that is a deal breaker for me.
I have a few of them and all of mine have a scent too, kind of like a cross between plastic and, I don't know... turpentine, or something, lol! Kinda similar to Nars lipgloss except worse and more chemical-smelling. I'm personally not too bothered by scents if it's a good product otherwise, but I can totally understand why someone wouldn't be able to tolerate the smell of these lipsticks.
Wow! That sounds awful - can definitely say none of mine have ever smelled like plastic or turpentine!
Weird, mine are SO STRONG! I wonder why that is? Well, I live in Australia and had to order them online, so maybe they were old stock and they've since fixed the issue, or something.
i, too, couldn't handle these or the NYX lipglosses because of the smell. Really, too bad.I'm in Texas and they are scented from my grocery store.
I've been loving the NYX lipsticks I own. I'm definitely thinking about adding this to my collection! I don't have a red shade from NYX yet. Thanks for the review.
