NARS Spring 2012: Lhasa Eyeshadow

NARS Lhasa Eyeshadow ($24.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “shimmery lavender-gray.” It’s gray, just slightly brown, with a stormy, smoky purple brewing in it. The color payoff is good, though just a touch sheer, but it has a really silky-smooth feeling to the texture. It also adheres really well to the lid. Urban Decay Bust is browner. theBalm Come Hither Heather is grayer, more cool-toned. Estee Lauder Tempting Mocha is lighter. Bare Escentuals Rowdy is a touch lighter. MAC Shale is similar but a touch darker.

NARS’ pressed eyeshadows are supposed to be long-wearing, crease-resistant, and highly pigmented on their own, and they do a good job of staying in place without fading or creasing, but only for around eight hours without a primer, at which time there is very slight fading and noticeable (but not deep) creasing. With a primer, I have no concerns as they last until I take off my makeup.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Admittedly, it seemed more unique when I first swatched it, but there are a fair number of shades that come close to it! If you don't have a shade like it, though, it is extremely versatile. It can be used in a neutral eye as well as a more dramatic, smoky eye.

I love it. Christine, what do you think does this greyish color go well with blue eyes?

  2. Sunny says:

Thanks for listing all the similar shades Christine! I thought this one looks REALLY unique but I do have Shale which is apparently only a touch darker. Now I can spend my money on something else lol

  3. Bex says:

Ooo such a pretty color! I don’t have anything like it in my collection… *makes excuse in order to justify buying it, haha!*

  4. Hilary♥ says:

This reminds me of ELF Saddle… even though I don’t have it. The colors seem to swatch alike. :)
I love this taupe shade, very light, elegant and wearable.

  5. Tabi says:

This is a really beautiful color, and I could see a gorgeous brown smoky eye with it.

I already have Shale, but I’m really tempted by this one! I’ll have to think about it. =)

  6. BeccaTheCyborg says:

Looks a lot like NARS Ashes to Ashes, but just a touch warmer. Hmm, still kinda want it, even though I have Ashes to Ashes.

  7. Chris25 says:

This would make a nice smoky eye. :)

  8. Ashley says:

This looks a lot like MAC’s Groundcover from the Fashion Flower collection last year (with shimmer though).

  9. Raquel says:

Do you think this is similar to MAC’s Shale? Very pretty swatch!

  10. Lisa says:

It looks like Chanel Fauve without the silver glitter.

  11. Julia says:

Reminds me of a slightly less purple NYX Red Bean, which I barely use. A miss for me :(

  12. Liz says:

Love it! I think it would go great with my blue/green eyes. Depending on the colour eyeshadow I wear they seem to change colour.

  13. Naz says:

Looks a little like MAC Satin Taupe

  14. Tori says:

    Hi Christine,
I was wondering if you have Chanel’s Safari eyeshadow and if you do, would you say that Lhasa is similar? Thanks!

  15. Rebecca says:

I was just wondering how you’d pronounce this shadow, if you know. Would the h be silent or would it be “luh-asa” or “luh-hasa” ?

  16. Victoria says:

Love this mix of purple and grey. Really pleased it is not limited edition too.

  17. Oona says:

I don’t know why, but this reminds me of theBalm’s Insane Jane (here). Gorgeus! ^^

  18. Cherie says:

Is it similar to MAC Style Snob?

  19. Caroline says:

Hi, is this similar to mac’s satin taupe? thanks for your time!

  20. Jamee says:

How does Lhasa compare to Chanel’s Taupe Grise?

  21. graychic says:

Is it anything like Lancome snap?

  22. Jenny says:

I might have to have this. It reminds me of one of my favorite BB shadows Fawn. The only issue I have with Fawn is how shimmery it is, granted it’s a Shimmerwash but still I would love to find something similar but not as shimmery.

  23. kate says:

It does look like Shale. And Fauve (which someone else mentioned). But I have such a weakness for this sort of colour that I have a feeling I’ll end up getting it anyway…

  24. Marie says:

Was there fallout with this color?

  25. Wenjing says:

it reminds me of nars ashes to ashes

  26. LC says:

This looks a lot like Stray Dog by Urban Decay. Still pretty, though!

  27. Adriana says:

It looks like Wet n’ Wild Nutty, which I love and its only $1 if you catch a sale. Is it?

  28. Clare says:

Hey, Christine! How does this compare to the eyelid color from Wet’n'Wild’s Silent Treatment trio? Thanks!

  29. Could the last shadow in the WnW Silent Treatment be a dupe for this e/s? I think I’m in love.

  30. I have to get out of this smokey taupe rut, it’s all I wear, but now I want this one to add to my collection – it’s lovely!

  31. Cherie says:

Lovely! Is this similar to MAC’s style snob?

  32. Ro says:

Christine, is this anything like Benefit’s ‘where there’s smoke’?

  33. FadBurger says:

This is right up my alley right now, as soon as Nordstrom has it it’s mine :)
